If Warners wasn't bribed, HD would have probably won. That's what's up now.

Uh...most people swore Blu-Ray would win since it had a better chance of market penetration with the PS3 being a trojan horse getting it in peoples homes.

Up until a few months ago the PS3's weren't selling well. Not until Sony dropped the prices. HD-DVD players were(and still are) half the price of Blu-Ray players. There have been more problems reported with Blu-Ray discs than HD-DVDs. Some Blu-Ray discs have had HD-DVD versions of films on them.

It's destroying it 85:15 or something.
It's over. I invested in HD DVD first then bought a PS3 and 3:10 to Yuma and couldn't be happier. Going to sell my HD collection.

It's gonna be awesome for when HD DVD fails. All the movies are going to be dirt cheap. That's when I'll clean up. As far as I'm concerned it's all 1080p to me. I have both formats, I'm set for the future.

There have been more problems reported with Blu-Ray discs than HD-DVDs. Some Blu-Ray discs have had HD-DVD versions of films on them. It wasn't just the price drop. Many more quality games have been released on PS3 in the past few months, which gives people more of an incentive to buy it. Either way, the war is just about over, and the only question that remains is how much longer HD will last. Blu Ray was always the favorite to win (because of the PS3), but HD did so well as a result of the inexpensive player. HD Players can now be found for $99-$199, while blu ray still costs about $349. Expect the price to drop in the next few months. I, personally, prefer blu ray, because I get a better picture since my X-Box 360 HD DVD player doesn't use an HDMI cable. Technically, the picture quality is the same on both formats (or so I hear). I own several movies on both formats, and will continue to buy movies on both until one ceases to exist. When movies are released on both formats, I ALWAYS choose blu ray. But some movies that are released on only HD DVD are too hard to pass up such as Hot Fuzz, Knocked Up, Eastern Promises, Zodiac, etc. And so I will continue to purchase HD dvds.

I agree they are going to go down. Probably not for a while, but eventually. I bought the HD-DVD drive for my 360 for super cheap, so I'm not mad about the war. I wasn't planning on upgrading for a long time anyway.

Honestly, I have both Blu Ray (40 gig PS3) & a HD DVD player. Although the picture is the same, I prefer HD DVD. I really think the wrong format is winning and I feel for the people that spent $99 on the Toshibas around the holidays.
At least they tried making the players affordable. I would've never thought Sony would win out on anything & it's ashamed that sales from PS3's are setting the format for the next generation of HD players. They've always tried to set the market and they failed miserably each time (mini-discs, UMD, etc). If Blu Ray infact wins the format war, they have another battle against standard DVD's. It's a battle I don't think they are going to win out. The difference isn't like VHS vs. DVD.

I don't care who wins, but with the hard coating and bigger size capacity, Blu Ray is the odds on favorite. However, HD releases most of their new releases in a dual format, which is a very smart move.

Anybody who pegged Blu-Ray to fail, myself included, only did so because it was brought to you by the people who brought us Betamax.

My cousin was bragging a few days ago because he just bought a hd-dvd player and was telling me bluray sucks I got swordfish, 300, troy, superman returns, and italian job. I called him an idiot because all those are also available on blu ray. I also informed him that all warner bros. movies will be blu ray exclusive. He was pissed when I told him the original predator movie wasn't coming to hd-dvd.

Im hoping Blu-Ray win for the simple fact that I own a PS3. I already one Harry Potter 5, The Simpsons Movie and the Spider-Man HD Collection. I am happy with Blu-Ray. Also, with Warner Bro. switching to Blu-Ray is also going to make it really hard for HD to win.

Exactly, look the majority of people that have and support Blu-Ray do so because of the PS3. I don't see many people shelling out $500+ on stand alone players. I'm just upset that the movie studios are making the consumers decisions for us with backroom payouts. What Warner did to HD-DVD was absolutely horrible and went beyond simply dropping the format. They did so right on the eve of CES which is one of the biggest electronics shows available to usher their upcoming products. Because Warner blindsided HD-DVD with the announcement, they had no choice to pull out. Then for the CEO of Warner to say that there was no payoff and that that made a choice for the people was nothing short of pure BS.
Having both formats, I can make an educated opinion of the products. I thought there was going to be a stalemate with both formats and never understood why studios had to take sides for exclusivity. Whats done is done. I haven't bought many movies on either side (10 HD-DVD's & 12 Blu-Rays) and I'm refusing to upgrade my standard DVD movies on either format until the storm is over. I just never expected Sony to come so far this time where they've failed miserably before with Betamax, Minidisc, & UMD.

I originally was behind HD DVD as I didnt really learn about Blu. But once I got a PS3 and started looking into Blu and buying more Blu Ray then I jumped on that ship. Im glad Blu is winning now. I just hope we get see lower prices on the movies... 30 is kinda expensive.

hmm, i didnt know HD-DVD players were so cheap. I might pick one up. and when they die, or the DVD prices drop, ill pick up a collection. You can get the Toshiba A3 for $130 on amazon.com right now and it includes 2 movies in the box (Bourne Identity & 300). They also have a 5 free movie rebate as well, so you get the HD-DVD player plus 7 free movies for that price. Keep in mind that even if HD-DVD fails in the long run, it's also an upconvert DVD player anyways so you won't be losing too much regardless.
