Backstory:September 3rd, 2006. It's official. With the recent comeback of ECW, and the current success of the WWE, Vince McMahon has sold the rights to WCW. There has been talks and rumors in recent weeks, but at 10:43 a.m. a deal was struck between WWE CEO Linda McMahon, along with her husband, Vince, and HDtv and Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban. With this deal, World Championship Wrestling retains the rights to all past material, titles, and namesake. Immediately following the deal, Mark Cuban's silent partner was identified to be none other than Ted Turner, once former owner of WCW. The two immediately started making phone calls, and hired non-other than Eric Bischoff to take the reigns of WCW once again, and build it back to what it once was. The WCW team quickly made phone calls, and heald private meetings to bring in talent right away, that could propel their product back to the top, as quick as possible. WCW released information, claiming they have already struck a deal with TNT, in the same prime time slot, for a 2 hour show, that they will once again be calling "WCW, Monday Night Nitro" and hope to head right back into the Monday Night Wars. A quick-roster was later released in the day, following countless hours and contacts. Erich Bischoff had this to say... "After spending my time off from the WWE, I was over-joyed to get the phone call from Mr. Cuban, asking me to run WCW once again. This time, things will be different. As you know, the Independant Circuit focus's on the up-and-coming stars of tomorrow. What I intend to do, is showcase their talents, but on the grand stage. I intend on making some of the biggest stars in the Indy Circuit, the biggest stars in wrestling today, right here, in WCW.
The small problem I've run into, is the cross-bread between Indy star and Super Star. As you all know, with the WWE brand split finally terminated, Vince McMahon was forced to let a number of his superstars go. With my work in the WWE, I became close to many of these wrestlers and decided to offer contracts to the men I felt would help my company, and in return, I help their careers.
With this, many of the Superstars have already come to me with concerns. They aren't ready to give up their top spots and their careers, to some kids that haven't worked in front of five digit crowds. With this dilemna, I have no choice...
...but to let them work out their differences in the RING. I will soon be leaking out the first card for the return of Monday Night Nitro. In which for the first time ever on national television, you will see the Indy Stars of tomorrow, attempting to jump-start their careers and fight for what they believe in with the Superstars of TODAY. WCW IS BACK."Roster:Brian Kendrick Chris Benoit Chris Sabin Paul London Hulk Hogan Shawn Michaels Shelton Benjamin Billy Kidman Elijah Burke Hussan Ali (formerly Muhammed Hussan) Lance Storm Low Ki Mikey Batts Randy Orton Sean Waltman Sylvester Terkay Bryan Danielson Chris Jericho Mike Swick Michael Bisping Alex Shelley Johnny Nitro Rene Dupree Teddy Hart Harry Smith Super Dragon Jack Evans TJ Wilson Tag Teams:Featured Attraction (Kidman & Batts) Terkay & Burke The HooliganZ (London & Kendrick) Bisping & Swick WCW TV: 8pm - 10pm on TNT (HDtv accessible) WCW World Heavyweight Champion:-Vacant- WCW United States Champion:Chris Sabin WCW Cruiserweight Champion:Sean Waltman WCW Tag Team Champions:-Vacant-
