Many wrestling fans were hopeful that Ric Flair's match against Shawn Michaels would be the final match to close out last night's WrestleMania XXIV. It turns out that Flair was offered the main event spot but turned it down.
There was a pitch made by a creative team member to have the final shot of WrestleMania be a spotlight on Flair's boots and robe. However, Flair strongly disagreed with those sentiments when the idea was brought up to him during a press conference held prior to the WWE Hall of Fame convention.
Flair told reporters that nothing is more important than the title belts and insisted that his match with Michaels did not belong in the main event position.

It should have been second to last...

I can understand where Flair is coming from, but do you really think anyone would've complained if it was the main event?
Now, if Show/Mayweather were the main event, then I would've complained.

Flair got more of my respect.

Not that it was a shock to anyone, but I think if HBK/Flair went on last, it would give away the fact that this is Flair's last match. Granted, I would of loved to see it, but I understand why it didnt.

I respect that. Obviously Flair came up in a time where titles were the most important thing in wrestling, so I can see why he didn't go on last.
I would've loved if his match would've went on last though.

i think it would have been fitting to be the main event since it was without question the match of the night & put the title matches to shame by comparison, but the world title kinda has to be the main event at wrestlemania.

It should have came after Bunnymaina and the Mayweather match though.
Seriously, that was the only reason I ordered WM, I felt they did a sub-par job putting together the rest of the event.

Nah...if you're going to not make it the main event, then it has to be somewhere in the middle, because you'll need the crowd to build back up for the main event. Can you imagine if HBK/Flair had been after Bunnymania and Show/Mayweather? The crowd would've been beyond dead for Edge/Taker.

I'm sorry but Flair needs to stop being so damn modest all the time & understand that he's bigger than the business & those belts that change hands every Raw!! As the boss, Vince should've really stepped in & DEMANDED that he went on last. I think everyone would agree that Flair going on last would not have been a regret!
Can you believe that the greatest wrestling career of all-time came to an end as a mid-card match? Terrible stuff!

Not true, the crowd was at it's peak during that match and really didn't get into the Edge match until at least half way through it. The whole card was screwed up, Bunnymania should have been the second match, rather than having TWO consecutive hardcore type matches.

It was the right thing to do. I would've been ticked if it had been on last. It does seem weird to me that HBK is the guy to end Flair's career. Does Shawn really need to be put over more?

I was surprised last night, the crowd were actually very into edge/taker esp. the part where they traded punches - im sure that's a great morale booster for the smackdown roster - as it always seems they play 2nd fiddle to RAW.

The fact that Mayweather was after the WWE Title match (& Flair/HBK for that matter) really grinds my gears. Even though Floyd/Show was pretty entertaining, it's then principle that the WWE's main title means more.

Flair is nothing but a class act. He has more respect for the business than most guys.

Flair`s right 100% The main event is for the title belts that are much more important than a retirement.

It has nothing to do with HBK being put over, Flair was going to lose and retire, since he was retiring he wanted to lose to HBK.
