Well, last night was only the second time the Crippler Crossface was used on WWE television & I have to say, the crowd gave a little reaction when Triple H slapped it on. What is everyone's opinions on this? I know HBK said not too long ago "I want to make it known that it's ok to use it." or something along those lines. Do you think it will ever get to the point where Jim Ross will say "The Crossface! Shades of the late Chris Benoit!"?

I can't see J.R saying Benoit's name anytime soon, or ever for that matter, but I don't think the move should be magically outlawed because of it. It's good to see some people whip the move out every once and a while.

I loved how HHH had it applied, it looked really really painful.

I highly doubt JR ever says that. That'd be sort of a show of respect to Benoit, which he doesn't deserve.

Benoit's name doesn't need to mentioned. It's just a sign of respect from the guys who knew and loved him. Or at least that is the way I see it.

i was kinda surprised when hhh put it on....but then i was like, ehhhh, whatever. it's a pretty good submission move so they had to re-break it out eventually, but i highly doubt they'll ever go on record to relate it to benoit.

It's actually "shades of Dean Malenko" since he gave Benoit the hold to use as his finisher.
I don't have a problem with other guys using it, but if you notice, JR just calls it "the Crossface" now when HBK or Trips have used it in the past.

Keep it civil, I've already locked one thread on this, and it was at the original poster's request.

I highly doubt JR ever says that. That'd be sort of a show of respect to Benoit, which he doesn't deserve. Well thank you for your opinion, but whatever happened in his personal life is no reflection of what he did in the ring, including making that a well-known submission. It would be showing respect to Benoits wrestling career. His personal life is completly irrelevant, so its ridiculous to make the judgment that you did, especially when you act like you speak for everyone. Its fine if thats your opinion, but dont say he doesn't deserve it, because that's not true, maybe YOU FEEL he doesn't, but i feel he does.

Don't expect to hear WWE ever say "Crippler" or "Chris Benoit" again.

Keep it civil, I've already locked one thread on this, and it was at the original poster's request. Exactly, let's not talk about Benoit in general, just the use of the Crossface...that's it. I didn't mean for this to turn into a "Benoit is a terrible person" garbage.

'How hilarious would it be for HHH to sneak up on Cena and put him in the crossface?' Thanks for reading my mind, Hunter. I don't see why it won't be used. I mean, really, WWE suspects that the general fanbase doesn't remember anything past last year, anyway (which is kind of true.) ... give it another year and JR MIGHT say 'Crippler Crossface'; even if he s up and says it by accident, it still counts.

Keep it civil, I've already locked one thread on this, and it was at the original poster's request. Yeah I remember that thread this morning, the original poster was being stubborn and was looking for an argument as he sent me a bunch of dumb PMs bashing me for liking Benoit. ANYHOW, back on topic..... I think that maybe one day in the future they might mention Benoit's name, but not anytime soon. As someone else mentioned (and as I mentioned in the locked thread) Dean Malenko actually invented the crossface, so it is for sure ok to use. Everyone uses the sleep hold and that was invented by a guy who was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife. I think tat the crossface is one of the best submission holds of all time, regardless of who it has history with.

I don't think Triple H on purposely planned to use the Crossface at all, but at the time of the Match it was a suitable submission to use.

You have to seperate Benoit the man from Benoit the wrestler. If you cant do that then everyone in the entertainment world is scum and we should never watch another movie or tv show or sporting event again. I mean I love derek jeter for what he does on the field, but off the field hes really scum. Hookers at 2 am, STDs between him and Jessica Alba but I dont know Jeter the man, i know Jeter the athlete. We didnt know Benoit the man, we knew Benoit the wrestler. Also remember his mental condition (remember he had the brain of an 80yo alzheimers patient) was because he came out every night and entertained US, the fans. I dont expect the Benoit family or Nancys family to ever forgive or forget but with the fans and wrestling industry in due time all wounds should heal. The man never did anything to us but give us his very best night after night.
