In what has to be a major blow to the already thin WWE main-event roster, WWE superstar Randy Orton suffered what could be a major injury at One Night Stand. Orton missed an RKO and wound up flying over the top rope, crashing to the floor. Orton is believed to have broken his left collarbone and will miss a significant amount of time.
The two-time champion wrestled in the semi-main event last night at One Night Stand against Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match. In what may have been an impromptu spot, Triple H hit the floor and nailed Orton with a sledgehammer after he crashed to the ground. Orton couldn’t answer the ten-count, and the match ended. It was obvious that something was wrong and this didn’t look like the planned finish.
Orton was rushed to a medical facility in the area immediately following the match. There are several reports that Orton was diagnosed with a broken collarbone. Orton could miss significant time with this injury. No word yet from the WWE on exactly how long Orton is expected to be out.
This is a huge loss at a bad time for the WWE. The last year has been spent building Orton up into RAW’s top heel. Orton had really started to catch on recently and there was even some talk that he would get another run with the belt in the near future.
RAW has lost its top two heels in the last two weeks. Now with William Regal gone for 60 days and Orton gone, JBL and Umaga become the top heels on the brand. This could all change in a few weeks with the draft. However, the shortage of heels does open up a possible Triple H heel turn to fill the immediate void. Triple H has been against the turn for awhile now, but with the shortage of heels he may be the only option.
In other One Night Stand news…The Undertaker lost the TLC match to Edge. Once again the two stole the show with another incredible match. The stipulation to the match was that if Undertaker lost, his career in the WWE was over. Obviously this is all part of the storyline and he isn’t going anywhere. Let’s just hope it doesn’t end like the last time Undertaker “left the WWE” with a horrendous Undertaker vs. Undertaker match at SummerSlam fourteen years ago.
