So I'm going to be picking up my first HDTV tomorrow to use this summer and head to college with in the fall, and I had a few questions for those who have models similar, or exact models.
My uncle happens to be the manager at a surplus store in the area called Marden's, and he's pulled aside three TV's for me and is offering any of them to me at his cost - a substantial reduction from retail value.
If anyone can give me some advice as to which they feel is the best deal, I'd greatly appreciate it.
My choices are...
32" Vizio Class Series ($389.99) 32" Samsung ($549.99) 32" Sony Bravia ($589.99)
I feel as though the Sony is likely the best option, as my price is nearly have of retail, but is it worth the extra $200 in comparison to the Vizio? Any help would be greatly appreciated, guys!

yeah, ive heard nothing but good things about Samsung...
i heard they make a lot of the screens for other companies too...
i'd go for the samsung...when ur making a big purchase like a TV, u wanna go for the best option not the cheapest, as you'll only regret it when u get it home and its awful...

You need to hook me up with the Samsung. I'd go for the Samsung. Their contrast ratios are great. Their darks are dark and the lights are light. Stay the away from Vizio. It's like buying an off-brand soda from WalMart instead of buying coke.

You still have that? That was a very long time ago from what I can recall.

I'd say the Vizio. I have one myself and Im pleased with it. Don't listen to the dinks that say otherwise. They are just as good and very well rated. Good TV's for the price.

I would get either the Sony or Samsung. Check them out side by side.

Good TV's for the price.Of course they're good TVs for the price. They're 150 bucks cheaper. You're getting a 32 inch tv for like 400 bucks. However, if they were the same price as the Samsung or the Sony, they'd be crucified because they're not as good TVs as the other companies. Vizios are not bad TVs. If you can't afford or just don't want to pay 500+ for a TV, go for it. However, if you can afford to go with the Samsung or the Sony, do it.

Mang, go with Samsung. If I had any money, I would buy Samsung right away instead of Sony or Vizios.

Are you just looking at them as HDTV's, or are you looking at specs too? Specs are SUPER important. You're going to want the best resolution you can get. This is a decent reference: www.tomsguide.com/us/hdtv-basics-explained,review-294.html You're going to have to copy and paste the whole address.

Why the hell are you buying a TV based on the brand alone? Post some specs so we can actually make an educated choice, rather than just saying "I would say Samsung, that name was good recommended".

samsung is easily the best choice. sony is a close second. vizios are not too bad if your on a smaller budget.

I agree! Eventhough I recommended Vizio; you have to make your own decision. That's the problem anymore; is people pay too much attention to ratings and recommendations from electronics magazines such as Consumer Reports, and such to make their decisions. Consumer Report's magazine is biased anyway. They are always going to give better ratings to the bigger, and better known name brands. It's not that these brands are better; its that these brands pay more to have their product "tested".

the specs, for those that are wondering, all pretty much equal. 8ms response time, 1080i option, integrated HD tuner, etc.
Regardless, I ended up going with what I knew best - Sony. I saw the Sony side by side with the Samsung playing the same program and the difference was quite significant, and both of them absolutely destroyed the Vizio.
