Now, I hope this thread can become something of an intellectual discussion. No fighting. K? Thanks.
The Rock is perhaps one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot into a WWE ring. A Multiple time WWE Champion, entertaining microphone skills, and one hell of a seller of the Stone Cold Stunner (He would do flips when he got Stunned!)
Now The Rock is nowhere to be seen when it comes to wrestling. He does not even make his usual one time a year apperances on RAW, Smackdown, or Pay Per Views.
So, my fellow WF'ers, here's the question to all of you: Did 'The Great One' sell out on the WWE? Did 'The People's Champ' sell out on wrestling fans? What is your opinion of The Rock? Will you always be his fan no matter what?
Personally, I will always love The Rock for what he did during the attitude era (I never liked his heel turn late in his career). However, I think The Rock needs to acknowledge more where he came from. It just seems like he is becoming a sell out.

I just think that he can't tell us that he loves wrestling, if he did, he would stay.

I do not think he sold out. He simply moved on and out from wrestling. This is no different than athletes for sports retiring and doing something else. He does not talk poorly of wrestling, he just chooses to not make appearances. When you look at what he has done he has earn the right to walk away and not look back if he chooses and not receive major criticism for such.

You can't tell us to have a debate, and say "no fighting." The point of a debate is to fight over who is right.
I think Rock did sell out, but I'm fine with it. Eventually, everyone you love will no longer be in the business. If he was still here, he would be in the same level as Undertaker or Shawn Michaels. Occasional main events, but mostly mid-carding. I think he left at the right time. During the whole transition between 2002 and 2003, it tore apart many good stars. Triple H became disrespected, and so did Undertaker and even Chris Jericho, who was champ earlier in the year. If Rock stayed in the WWE the whole year of 2002 and 2003, his career would've been shut down after Summerslam and until No Way Out. He left at the perfect time, and he came back at the perfect time. The WWE is fine without Rock, and Rock is fine without the WWE. His absense leaves room for us to actually enjoy his matches when we watch them again. It's easier to enjoy someone's matches when they're gone than if they were still here. For example, I can't really watch HHH vs Undertaker at WM17, or HHH vs Jericho at WM18 because all of them are still here. But I can enjoy Rock vs Undertaker NWO02, and Rock vs Jericho RR02 without a problem.

No, I don't think he sold out whatsoever. He moved on. People change careers in life. He's a very smart man. He can still love the business, but it's a wise decision to get out while he did without the risk of wearing out his welcome (like Stone Cold seems to have done) and he won't wear down his body.

Yes. Im still a huge Rock fan, but he really turned his back on the thing that made him famous. Infact, if it wasnt for wrestling, he would probably not be in any movies. He got where he is today with Wrestling, and yet now he refuses to make appearnces on 15th anniverseries?!? I mean, I can see why he wants to quit wrestling. Everyone does it at a point. But to toally seperate yourself from the loyal people who watched you day in and day out? Shame.

Of course he did, but it was for the better from his point of view -- it's his absence that makes us love him, if he was still here we'd be sick of him as a lot of us are with Triple H. Besides, from his point of view this way he makes more money, gains global recognition, less travel, and less wear and tear on the body.

But is it so much to ask for The Rock to make apperances every so often?

Of course not. It's asinine to think that he "turned his back" on what started him. It's not like he hasn't acknowledged that. Is he supposed to parade around in every media appearance and constantly bring up wrestling? Of course not. He's allowed to have that change of heart and make choices in how to live his own life. It's not like he has to be chained to wrestling until he's dead.
And I honestly don't blame him for not wanting to be entirely associated with it at the moment. The whole steroids thing has exploded in the last year, and I can't blame him for not wanting to be coming back during the controversy. It's a smart move on his part.
But it's the dumbest thing in the world to believe that he sold out.

I think he had definitely sold out. Unlike many of you, I never really LOVED The Rock. He had good mic skills and was decent in the ring, but I never understood why he's always mentioned with the greats of wrestling as I think he definitely isn't anywhere near the top.
Anyway, wrestling MADE Rock famous. He wouldnt have had the door to movies without the exposure from the WWE. I have no problem with him choosing to do moves ... hell, it's smarter, it makes more money and he doesnt have to kill himself physically. However, he seems to almost be embarassed of wrestling and never acknowledges it, doesnt really support it or do anything to give back to what made him. He never does appearances and tries to stay as distant as he can. Wrestling made him and he should quit trying to act like it never happened. I am fine with him being an actor and not wrestling anymore, but he should give a little more back because he has what he has largely because of the WWE.

I don't think he did at all...He loves wrestling, but he wanted to make movies...I think it is perfectly ok to want to venture out and do other things.

No, it's ludicrous. I liked being a bagboy at Winn-Dixie when I was 16, and it's where I got my start. But eventually I left. I don't think that is selling out. He left something he loved to do something else he loved, that also won't cripple him. The Rock doesn't owe anyone anything, and to think he ought to sacrifice his career to stay in wrestling is completley moronic.
The Rock is one of my all-time favorites, and I miss him terribly, but I am very happy for him, and support his decision to leave 100%.

He did and he didnt. I mean if it wasnt for WWE he wouldnt be doing movies right now as someone pointed out before. He should at least have some kind of heart and come back for 2 or 3 months out of the year and put on a match or two. Hell even doing what Stone Cold does would be fine. I just want to see Shawn Michaels vs The Rock. And I want to see the Rock more during wrestling

Really, if he loves it, and he can do it, why isn't he wrestling? I don't care what he chooses to do, I just don't share opinions with the ones saying he does love wrestling. Maybe he one day did, but not anymore.

I'd understand if the WWE was requesting his presence every other week, but I think that Rock going to the HOF Ceremony and jetting right after instead of sticking around for Wrestlemania was a dick move.

This is like asking if Arnold Schwarzenegger sold out when he left Bodybuilding for movies. The answer is No! You could have more then one passion in life, and still love the other one. Its called moving on and growing as a person. Which a lot of wrestlers should do before their time passes.

The Rock will always be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.
Why? Because he knew when to get out of the game.
