Last night's Raw was of the most news worthy editions of the show in a long time. Not only did we see a total shakeup of the rosters but we got the start of a new storyline with Vince McMahon as the focal point.
I am told that the Vince angle that closed the show made a number of the wrestlers roll their eyes. The feeling is that Vince is only doing this because je felt slited when he had to put the brakes on his death angle last year because of the Benoit situation. Apparently the idea for another angle involving Vince has been in the cards since the storyline of who his illegitimate child was didn't turn out as planned. However the actual idea for what the storyline would be was not made final until just last week. I was also told that more fans in attedance were seen laughing about the whole thing instead of being concerned that Vince was really hurt.
Triple H being drafted to Smackdown was sort of socking. I mean we knew that Michael Hayes has been pitching the idea for a while but most of us including myself though it would never happen. Apparently according to Dave Meltzer, Hunter likes the idea of the schedule for Smackdown as he will be on the road one less day a week and will see his kids and wife one day more a week. I am told that either Cena or HHH was going to be drafted and that has been the plan for months now. At first Hunter said no when asked about it but gave it a second thought and a few weeks back changed his mind. Most of the locker room really thought Cena was going to be drafted as that was the plan as recently as 2-3 weeks ago. The only people who knew about Hunter going to Smackdown were obviously Vince, Hunter himself, Kevin Dunn, Brian Gerwitz, Michael Hayes and Stephanie. No one else was in the loop. Hunter was also the only wrestler who knew before Monday that he was being drafted which I am told has not set well with some of the locker room.
As Mike reported earlier today, Jim Ross was very upset that he was drafted. I am told that he had a short meeting with Vince after Raw last night and they talked over the whole thing. Going into the meeting JR was ready to quit but Vince being the smooth talker that he is changed his mind. Jerry Lawler was also upset at the move but didn't cause as a scene backstage as JR did. Michael Cole was said to be happy he was moving to the A show but also felt bad for Ross who he knows loves calling Raw. It is no secret that Vince has wanted JR off of Raw for years now and it looks like he may have finally gotten his wish after several failed attempts.
Lastly I was told that there have been some talks recently about changing the names of the World and WWE Titles to the Smackdown and Raw World Titles. One source said he doesn't think it will happen though since the WWE Title has been around for so long. No word yet on where any of the titles will end up come Sunday but it whould be intresting to find out. At this point Raw has the ECW Title, Smackdown has both World Titles and ECW has the US title. As for an IC title match on Sunday I am told that there will most likely be one added at the last minute but with who is not known.
