I think Wrighty was wrighting (zing!) in the Sun a few weeks ago about whether or not there should be a Team Britain as apposed to England, Scotland Wales and ROI and NI.
Personally, I would be in favor of this. If it was around, imagine how a possible midfield in of Becks, Keane, Scholes & Giggs would have got on. How about the reliability of Shay Given in goal, Robbie Keane up front etc.
If as a nation, if the media are to believed, we can get behind Andy Murrey as our hope of achieving anything in tennis, why not Team Britain?

Itd be 90% English anyway. Don't see much point in it.
Plus, it'd take away the rivalries like England/Scotland
Oh btw the Republic of Ireland isn't in Britain anyway so Keane and Given wouldn't be playing

Nah Team Britain would fail as England would clearly offer way more and to be honest I dont feel anyone else in Britain (outside of England) could get a place in the "Britain" Team

I can see what you mean about it being 90% English, the more competition could force the players to raise their games. However there is no guarantee that would remain the same in the next few years. Off the top of my head, Bale and Ramsey are 2 promising looking people who could make it. About ROI not being in Britain, that shows how bad my knowledge of geography or history.

lol, asif the republic would agree to a British team. They hate the UK.
There should be a British football team for the Olympics, but for everything else it's fine as it is. It's not even worth thinking about because it would never happen anyway. I'm enjoying England being as bad as Scotland now anyway, so let's not end it prematurely.

Name a non-English player who would be good enough for the "Britain" Team? Craig Gordon would easily get in there. He is far better than Robinson, Carson, James, Given, Carroll, Taylor, Price.

Name a non-English player who would be good enough for the "Britain" Team? I would have Bale ahead of Cashley any day.

please god no!!!!!
the SNP would never allow it,and if general opinion up here is to believed, there wont be a great britain in 2012
also gordon woud be the goalkeeper without a doubt, his performances at international matches have been sensational(esp against the likes of italy/france),and far better than any englishman has produced over the last 6/7 years

The reason Britain as a naton gets behind Murray is because Tennis isn't a sport thats divided by counties. For example, in the Davis Cup, there isn't an English team, Scottish team, Welsh team etc, theres just the British team.
Its completely different to football, and Team Britain would never work.

I wouldn't be too fussed about a British team, even if it were just for a charity event, Olympics or whatever. As long as the Republic of Ireland didn't get involved (unless it was a charity gig - I can't say no to that.) ROI are good enough without having to lose players to a British team. However, I wouldn't mind seeing ROI/NI/Scotland/Wales vs England, just to show them who's really better.

Team ROI/NI/Scotland/Wales would hammer Team England. True. Because they'd (probably) play as a team. England have the better players than the likes of Croatia etc they just dont play well together, to many quality players although that'll sound stupid.

They have too many players who THINK they are quality due to thier wages.
