Well, just got finished watching this for the first time, and well, I really don't get how it ends, was it real, was it a dream, is he another person? I'm wondering if anyone here could help.
Plus, I just want to say, even tho its a very violent film, it does have its humor, like when its the 3some, and he's posing and flexing to the camera, lol

There is no answer. The whole film is meant to be interpreted by the viewer.

I think that the murders were all in his head, like a hallucination (I know it's spelled wrong) of what he would like to do. I had that thought when the guy said he had dinner with Paul Allen in Paris after Bateman allegedly hacked him to death while listening to Huey Lewis and the News.

The book doesn't tell you anything either, I did a book report on it. I'd like to think it's all in Bateman's head.

According to the piece of crap "sequel" Bateman really did kill people ,and then was killed by a child and William Shatner took the credit. So its hard to really say. I think it was all in his head. Just a bored yuppie wishing to escape normalcy.

I did a book report on it too, and yes, the book makes it clearer that he actually DID do it. Remember the taxi cab driver? If you read Ellis' other books, like Glamorama, he has Patrick Bateman cameo with "strange red botches on his lapel" (i.e: blood). The movie is more ambigious.

I had that thought when the guy said he had dinner with Paul Allen in Paris after Bateman allegedly hacked him to death while listening to Huey Lewis and the News. That part was to show nobody knew who the hell the other person was. That's why Bateman gets called defferent names throughout the movie/book. And he calls other people by the wrong name. They all wore the same suits, glasses, haircuts, tanning. There was no individuals they were all the same person at the end of the day. Did Bateman kill people? Yes. Did he kill as many as he "imagined"? No. Where the line comes between reality and imagination is the true question...........
