I did look to see if there was a generalized thread for this sort of thing or something along those lines so i didn't seem foolish but couldn't find one so i guess a new post will have work for it. I have played ccgs and done miniatures games, and rpgs and it seems like comics would be another hobby that would be something for me to enjoy...though i feel so overwhelmed by the sheer world of it all and how little i know and so i guess what i am asking is where does one start to begin collecting comics or is it just pick them up here and there. i mean honestly i have been a graphic novel reader for quite sometime, but the idea of comics, though intriguing, is also a bit overwhelming... So does anyone have any tips for starting to get into this hobby and way of life for quite a number? It would be greatly appreciated... Thanx

Well first, find a series or certain superhero(s) you want to follow.

Well, I guess find out what the big stories are out there on both sides and read those first. Luckily, most big story arcs are actually collected into graphic novels, so it's easy. From there, you can sort of figure what characters you like the most. Sometimes doing something as simple as reading an X-Men, Avengers, or Justice League story can introduce you to certain characters you may not have known of or given a damn about. There's no science to comics. Go to a comic store that's friendly and small, they don't mind if you read them there, and if the guys nice enough will even sort of guide you around if you have a general idea of what you like and don't like. Unless of course you're unfortunate enough to have a Simpsons type character working yours. I've lucked out at mine

Well I just recently got back into comics so I think I can help you out. So this is what I did and I think you should do the same. You should go to your comic book store and pick up like a batman and a spiderman or a superman and x men comic book. What Im trying to say is you should get one DC comic book and one marvel. Then you read them both. And if you liked them both alot then you get another issue of them both. If you liked the marvel one then you should stick with marvel (which IMO is better then dc ). But If you like DC then stick with DC. This is just what I did and I liked marvel more and now I am hooked on several comic books. But I do still ocassionally read some batman comics. Hope I helped you out.
