His mid to late 97 to early 98 work was done as a heel champion. What did you think about that? He was a big role in bringing on the Attitude Era. I think the work he did during that time was great and very believable. He mostly worked with Taker and Austin, along with the Hart Foundation. He even made Ken Shamrock look decent in a title match.

All depends on injury and what is needed to fix it. Plain and simple.

I really hate to hear this. I hope it comes back around and bites them. I guess there is hope that they get caught.

Ive been waiting a while for a 97-98 HBK. Would love to get some more info about it. Sorry, I am new to the board when it comes to posting and all, but how long is it usually between preorder waves?

They needed someone to come in that was already "Over" or push someone from mid card to Main event status. So WWE called Jericho and asked him to come back. From what I heard on Jericho's dvd, he watched Wrestlemania 23 with HBK vs. Cena, and got the itch to come back and HE called the WWE and came back. Not the WWE calling him to come back. I recall that as well and you are correct. My point is that WWE needed more star power because everyone that was made was either gone by choice or injured.

I don't think it is that strange. It happens a lot when top stars are injured or they just don't have that star guy to keep the ratings up. Just in the case like Jericho. In 2007 Undertaker, Cena, HHH, HBK and Edge, along with some mid card performers suffered from big injuries. They needed someone to come in that was already "Over" or push someone from mid card to Main event status. So WWE called Jericho and asked him to come back.
HBK had his demons. Even after the injuries and all, he was still on pills pretty bad. When he would come back to be the commissioner or be a guest referee or something, he would be in pretty bad shape because of pain killers and such. A lot of the guys didn't want him around and even HHH got into it with him at an event. That didn't sit well with Shawn so he went home.
Then, once everyone started heading out again and the NWO was going to crap, WWE called him to come in and be part of it. It just so happened that he had cleaned up and found Christ and slowly proved to everyone that he was a different person. He was only suppose to do the one match at SummerSlam because he trust HHH and knew they could have a decent match. It wasn't till that Survivor Series in Nov. that he wrestled his second match.
Personally, I don't think he knew he could perform at a high level anymore because his first match back was a street fight. His second was the elimination match which he was the last to enter and there were 5 other guys there so he really didn't have to go the distance. He slowly got back to a high performing rate and I think it was totally legit. So, Yes he was injured, he needed time away. He probably could have come back earlier, but due to personal issues, he screwed himself.
