But it really bugged me how the U.S. Title wasn't that much different from the WCW Title at times. I remember there would be PPV matches like Bret Hart vs. Sting for the U.S. Title. Pretty much anyone not named Hulk Hogan or Goldberg (after he won the WCW Title) could go for the U.S. Title, and it really got out of hand.

They went for the US title because it made you number one contender. yep, and it also kept all the hot heads who believed that for the company to be a success they needed to be holding gold satisfied.

yupp... way too many big ego's in WCW at that time who all wanted the spotlight and gold at the same time - I guess having the US title was there to keep them temporarily happy.

WCW TV title was nearly on that level at times.
