MMAScoops.com is reporting that Chris Leben has just been suspended by the UFC for nine months and fined him one-third of his fight purse following a positive drug test for the steroid Stanazolol after his loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 89 in England in October. The news was reported by Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports.
Leben has never tested positive before, but this is still a major setback in his career. “I am obviously disappointed with Chris, who has made great strides getting his life back on track,” UFC president Dana White told Meltzer. “To his credit, he has taken responsibility for his actions and is accepting the punishment that has been handed down. But as always, the UFC puts the safety of its athletes first and foremost, and we won’t tolerate anyone using performance enhancing drugs in our organization.”
MMAScoops.com states that the UFC tested all 22 athletes on the card before and after the fights, and Leben is the only fighter who has tested positive for illegal substances.

Not only did he lose. But now he's suspended AND was fined?
The only thing I'd ask him is if it was worth it.

I like Chris as a fighter but he seems to not make the best decisions. In anything, lol

He certainly looked a lot more ripped than usual especially in the Countdown show, I just hoped it was down to him living clean & training hard.

Ouch. Talk about a one-two punch.
It's his damn fault, though. Don't pop 'roids.

As JACKSON! will tell you, I'm a big Chris Leben fan, and I was really shocked to hear about this, it sucks he's suspended 9 months and fined, but it's his own fault, so I'm not going to feel bad for him.
Oh well.

I read that earlier and it sucks for Leben but he knew better not to use stuff like that. I did notice he was really ripped that night too.

Yeah, that sucks for Leben. If you are going to use steroids in MMA, you will get caught. There's no other way around it. You can't fool the tests and if the fighters are using prior to testing, then I'm sure they know full well they will get caught or at least worry about getting caught. And Chris Leben just found that out the hard way...

What is interesting is that over here in the UK we don't have drug testing, this was something the UFC did of it's own.
Good move on the UFC to show it is doing what it can to drive steriods etc out of the sport

In an interview I saw on Sherdog, Leben stated he was counting on the steroids being out of his system by the Bisping fight.
It's weird how different fighters react to the suspensions, some fight tooth and nail, some just take it.
I remember stephan bonnar just plainly saying "I knew I'd get caught, I just needed an edge against Forrest"

I remember stephan bonnar just plainly saying "I knew I'd get caught, I just needed an edge against Forrest" Yeah, and even with that extra added edge, he still lost. Leben did too. He had an advantage over Bisping by taking whatever he took and he lost as well. I guess taking steroids means you'll be a loser in the octagon and in real life. They certainly don't help matters, that's for sure.

For some reason when I first read this, I thought it was Koscheck that got suspended. I'm glad Leben got suspended, I hate that dude.

I think it's really unfortunate that 'roids still have this aura of being a wonder drug that beefs you up and gives you the "one last boost" you need to win a fight. Steroids are nothing but a shortcut, and a dangerous one at that. I can, for the most part, understand why people would take them, but I never agree with it. If you're desperate enough to go the 'roids route, maybe it's time to instead admit your shortcomings and go back to the gym to reevaluate your gameplan. I really have no sympathy for these guys. Do the crime, pay the time.
