You are wrong and I will explain to you why. In 1984 Hogan was already a big star. He was a headline star in the AWA and he was well known in the media after the Rocky III movie. The 1984 Hulk Hogan was already more mainstream than Cena is today. Rocky III was HUGE and Hogan became the face of Pro-Wrestling because of it.
The second thing to remember is that headlining a Wrestlemania in the 80's meant something. Today, it really doesn't. Hogan's matches, even though the technical quality was iffy at best, are remembered even today. Cena's are not.
To compare the two on pure age is just stupid. Cena walked into an established market that was pumped into the media seveal times a week. Hogan walked into... well... we all know the past. Finally, there were no "mixed reactions" to Hogan in the 80's. Cena ALWAYS has them. Hogan was not only the face of wrestling in the 80's he WAS wrestling. People went to see shows to see HIM. People don't line up to see Cena.

The only person that could be the kind of 'superstar' Hulk Hogan was, is John Cena. IMO, the only person that could be the kind of 'superstar' The Rock was, is Randy Orton. Yes, although Batista is at the level too I think. |

We don't need another Hulk Hogan, the first one was bad enough. Also Hulk Hogan never got booed out of the building when he was a face unlike John Cena, at least Hogan was liked by everybody (except me). I hate both of them, but I gotta say Hulk Hogan > garbage > Cena. I would also like to add that wrestlers need to make a name for themselves. I hate it when people say who's going to be the next so-and-so, or so-and-so is going to be the next so-and-so. I really hate that with a passion. You never seen WCW? hogan was getting booed as a baby face. people were sick of him. Than they turned him into a heel. nWo. |

If the internet was around when Hogan was killing everyone with legdrops the IWC would hate him too
However no one, will or reach the status that The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels have in the present day WWE. Both of them are two of the most recognizable faces in wrestling HISTORY, and considering HBK has been with the company for 20 years and Undertaker for 18...no one can touch that as far as active superstars

I'm a fan of John Cena and he is most defintely the biggest wrestler in the world today, but on the same level as Hulk Hogan? I really don't think so. Honestly, Cena is on a higher level than Hogan...if you take into consideration where Hogan was when he was Cena's age. John Cena is 31 years old. Hogan was 31 in 1984. Hogan won his FIRST world title in 1984 (Cena has already held it three times). Hulkimania did not really take off until a little after that. Wrestlemania did not even come around until Hogan was 32 years old. John Cena has already headlined two Wrestlemanias before the age Hogan got to his first. Hogan walked away when he was 54 years old. That gives Cena 23 more years to accomplish everything Hogan did (and he does not need all 23). John Cena > Hulk Hogan I think this is a bad analogy. did it take hogan longer (since he started in the E') than Cena to be the champ? |

People have got to stop hanging onto the past and let people build their own legacy's.
John Cena is as close to a mainstream star that the WWE can get today, he is undoubtedly the biggest superstar of this day and age and will definitely reach a legendary status one day, I doubt it'd ever be as big as Hogan's but we don't know right now. Both will attain legendary status as Wrestlers.
And for those saying Hogan never got booed, that is a lie, there were multiple times that the crowd turned on Hogan (Summerslam 89 for one) it's just everyones now and smark and trying to be cool by hating, they didn't have that in the 80's.

Saying Cena headlined more 'Mania's at a younger age isn't saying anything since Wrestlemania was not even around when Hogan started. Wrestlemania was built around Hogan and Piper, and everyone wanted to see them go at it. In Cena's main events, his match was not even the most anticipated. Some people didn't even care about his matches even though he was main event.

Cena will be the next cena not hogan or rock. Cena has a different kind of swagger to him. 20 years down the road cena prob is done and when we all look back and talk about wwe its gonna be about hey remember when cena was on raw and hogan and rock and what not. Honestly cena is the top dog like him or not. But i wouldnt call him the next hogan.

There will never be another Hogan. His name and probably Andre The Giant's is know worldwide more than any other wrestler. You can ask a person who has never watched wrestling who Hulk Hogan is and they'll know who he is. John Cena is WWE biggest star today but he'll have his own legacy.

He originally debuted in WWF in 1979, then won the title 5 years later. Cena debuted in 2002, then won the title in 2005. Any way you look at it, Cena is coming out superior. Well can Cena put 93,000* asses in seats? I don't think he can.
*Don't argue other wise about the attendance count. For proof look at a picture of that crowd compared a crowd of 50,000 or so. You can tell that there was a legit 93,000(if not close to it)at WMIII
