I read in Vince Russo's book that he told Vince McMahon to either choose him or Cornette to help him book the show in the late 90s. Russo and Cornette didn't see eye to eye because of their differing views on wrestling. McMahon chose Russo and thus they became very successful.
Do you think if Vince chose Cornette that they would be as successful? I like JIm, but he's very old fashioned and his ideas probably wouldn't work to bring in the fans that they brought under Russo's direction. Russo said that McMahon should copy ecw and be edgy and Cornette likely would have wanted the wwf of the late 90s to resemble the 70s nwa.
What do you guys think?

definatly not. i love corny and his booking, but the late 90's was all about addicting fans and russo provided them with fast matches, lots of skin, and storylines that were compelling if not technically sound. he probably did a lot more damage to the sport of wrestling than anyone but he helped make the company a ton of money so he accomplished that much.

Russo is a genius. Provided us with the best period in wrestling that there ever was and probably, but unfortunately ever will be.

lol first time anyone called Russo a genious in well EVER. Anyway Cornette would have lacked as a booker he was too old old school and would haven't went where WWE needed to go to get back fans. I mean TNA has gone to crap since he came on board. I quit watching because of all this stupid storylines and it started when Russo and Cornette came into the company

Both are too extreme. Honestly I think having both of them on a booking staff is a great Idea. I cant give credit to Russo for anything Attitude Era that went on. Simply because 90% of what WWE did on National Television wasnt seen when ECW being booked by Paul Heyman, did it on local stations at 2am. Kurt Angle had no problems when Taker crucified Austin on the Cross at Raw but when it was done a few months before hand at ECW by Raven to the Sandman, he was insulted and obviously Russo/WWE Creative ripped the idea from ECW and Heyman. I give NO credit to anything Russo did, because the only time he and Ferrera did something that he had no choice but to be original on was when he took over at WCW and sent that place belly up. Heyman and Bischoff will always be the 2 greatest minds in wrestling to me
