Well I was just told by someone that the owners of UFC back when it first started rigged the events. He said back in the Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbott days the fights were rigged to make names for the fighters since they didnt have very much popularity.. He said that the owners of the UFC and people in charge actually talked about it and said all of this too. And claims that this is a known fact. I did some re-search about it and found no evidence of it. I dont believe the guy but I know alot of you guys have been around since the beginning of UFC and know alot about it. I want to know if any of you have ever heard this stuff he is saying or if he is lieing. This is the first time I ever heard this so I was just wondering....

I've never heard that. I guess it's possible, but I sincerely doubt it. There were some RIDICULOUS knockouts that could not have possibly been faked. Not even the best-selling pro wrestlers could do those sell jobs.

UFC was never staged, ever. Did they book things strategically to try and get results they wanted? Hell yes. Remember that mother er who wore one boxing glove to the cage against Gracie at UFC 1? Tell me they didn't go, " , he'll never make it. With that, Royce goes to round 2 easy against the winner of this fight." Basically they set up the dominoes and hoped they fell in the right formation. They never told people to lose or anything like that. PRIDE, on the other hand, has a very illegite background. Rampage has gone on record saying that he was approached backstage and was told, "If you beat Sakuraba by KO, you'll get $7,000. But if you lose by submission, you'll get $10,000." Rampage was submitted via RNC in that fight, his PRIDE debut. www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Ken%2BShamrock/video/x1hmh9_bart-vale-kos-ken-shamrock_funTheres a work. Even look on Shamrock's record, you'll find no trace of this. The UFC was never involved in fight fixing, although other smaller companies were.

There have indeed been obvious works in MMA but I don't think that the early UFC pay per views were in any way rigged. Like has been said, the booking was strategically done in a way to put Royce over, that much is obvious. Every now and then though they couldn't avoid having him in a real war...he wound up facing Severn at UFC IV, and , Keith Hackney was going to TOWN on Royce before he made a mistake and followed him to the ground. Stuff like Royce/Van Clief, or Royce/Art Jimmerson etc. were obvious attempts to get him to the next round easy against guys with less than zero ground game, but there was no way they rigged any of it. If you want to see a real work just look up Coleman/Takada from Pride 5. Blatant shameless work that has basically been admitted to by this point.

The rumours of works in the UFC that I've heard of go back to two specific fights. Oleg Taktarov vs. Anthony macias at UFC6 & Don Frye vs. Mark Hall at Ultimate Ultimate 2 Both were matches for the fighters tyo qualify to the final against Tank Abbott in both cases and both were won in very quick & questioned fashion. The Hall/Frye fight was their third meeting & the two previous fights had been grueling fights for Frye to win. both were managed by same bloke & Hall has spoken repeatedly that he was told to throw the fight. Similar situation with Taktarov/ Macias as in the same manager & Macias has claimed he was told to lose quick. Both fights were won by submissaion in seconds something the heavy handed FRye was never really known for.
Not sure how true these claims are, but IF true I doubt the UFC itself was involved, never heard any other stories of fixing fights in the UFC. As said though Pride was heavily rumoured to fix fights such as Takada vs. Coleman & Takada's only other win over Kyle Sturgeon.

Very, very doubtful. That's all I'm going to say.

It'll always be possible, it'll always be rumored, but unless hard evidence comes out to prove wrong-doing (as it has came out in the past), it'll continue to be the sports equivalent of an urban legend.
This is true of all legit sports, including MMA, IMO. In regards to "fixing" events.
Also, please note that "urban legend" refers to the fact that it's probably over-inflated but with some truth to it. As many have said, UFC's booking can be called "strategic" but not "fixing". In some cases, like PRIDE, they really did engage in "fixing" activities. So there'll always be a grain of truth amidst all the swirling rumors.
Definitely sounds like the sports equivalent of an urban legend to me.

I believe the rumor is that a couple of Oleg's fights were rigged, but I have not seen anything that really makes me believe that. I always enjoyed Taktarov when he was in the UFC.

A HIGHLY DOUBTFUL speculation. I had a friend who competed in UFC 5 and never was it told to him to do anything but put up a good fight for the fans.

Sure, rigging it to market their big name fighters seems reasonable, but no. UFC was never rigged.

UFC itself has never been rigged. There could have been individual fights here and there that were less than honorable, or booked to make one side more likely to win, but the organization as a whole has always been legit, even in the Meyrowitz days.
I'm not saying there weren't one or two fights that happened under questionable circumstances in the early days. I'm sure one or two of those fighters probably entered the cage fully expecting to lose, whether they tried to or not.
To me, if the UFC were fixed back then, Steve Jennum would have never won UFC 3. They would have had one of the more famous fighters go out there (injured or not) and fake his way to the win.

UFC fights were stage by the company, but you should write Dave Meltzer or Eddie Goldman to ask them about early UFC team mates fix fights. For what I heard from them and many other shows some fights in the early UFCs were fix between team mates. If you search in Sherdog you can find many threads about which fights might be fixed. The 2 fights that come to mind are Oleg Taktarov vs Anthony Macias(UFC 4) & Don Frey vs Mark Hall 3 (Ultimate Ultimate 96).
PS: In the early PrideFc some fights were fix by the company. (Coleman vs Nobuhiko Takada.)Coleman said he really needed the money for his familly & that is why he agree to that.

I could see one team being obviously given tomato cans to fight so that it was obvious they were going to win but I do not feel that UFC was ever staged mostly do to some of the MMA camps I have visited who also had UFC fighters training there.

The Taktarov/Macias fight rumoured to have been worked was UFC 6 not 4, Oleg debuted in UFC at No.5. It was apparently done so Oleg would be fresh to fight the very dangerous looking debuting Tank who in his two fights earlier had looked a killer. Easy to laugh at Tank now but after seeing his first win in the Octagon sparking Matua in 18secs & then dominating the huge Varelans he appeared a genuine threat. As said though the only rumoured works have been arrangements between team mates, never heard anything of the organisation working fights. It would have killed their credibility if it came out which at the start was how the UFC was marketed.
