Credit: mmamania The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 lightweight winner Nate Diaz (10-2) will indeed battle Clay Guida (24-9) at UFC 94: “St. Pierre vs. Penn 2,” which is scheduled for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 31, according to GracieFighter.com. The 155-pound competitors were previously penciled in to collide at TUF 8 Finale on December 12; however, the bout fell through because of a foot injury sustained by “The Carpenter” in training. It was apparently a fight worth waiting for and is now set to take place on the monster Super Bowl weekend pay-per-view (PPV) show. Diaz has been nothing short of brilliant inside the cage since his stint on TUF, stopping four out of his five most recent opponents and defeating them all. He most recently headlined UFC Fight Night 15 last month against Josh Neer and the two put on an action-packed three-round show for the fans. He’s clearly ready to graduate and take on the top contenders in the 155-pound division in 2009. Diaz’s mixed martial arts skills are well beyond his 23 years on this planet — he appears to get better and better each time out. It’s scary. But he’ll need to come in top shape if he intends to topple the lightweight cardio machine known as Clay Guida. Guida, believe it or not, has an average record (3-3) inside the Octagon. That record, however, doesn’t paint a totally accurate picture because he has been involved in several close fights, which he arguably should have won (Tyson Griffin) or was on the brink of victory (Roger Huerta) before having it snatched away in the final round. He most recently defeated TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 15 in typical Guida fashion, frustrating and outworking the vegan mixed martial arts veteran. Guida will look to add another TUF champion to his hit list in little more than a month … back-to-back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AWESOME fight and I can't in wait.

Even though it'll be at the very start of the new year, I can see this fight becoming a dark horse for FOTY if both bring their best.
UFC is really hitting it out of the park with their latest events.

Wow.
Diaz looks more and more like his brother as far as his style of fighting goes each time he steps into the octagon. But the more he wins..the more cocky and arrogant the kid gets. I like it when it is a Tito Ortiz kind of confidence...but when you are flexing and flipping off the crowd when you have your opponent in a triangle choke and he hasn't even tapped out yet? That is just disrespectful in a way.
Guida on the other hand is an amazing fighter who win or lose brings his best and is always fight of the night in my eyes...He needs this win bad. Because he can't afford another loss..whether it is a close fight or not he can't afford it. So I hope he puts the pressure on Diaz but doesn't go in fighting wrecklessly and end up getting caught in a submission.
It should be an amazing fight though.

Quality fight, Diaz is more technical, BUT Guida is just a monster constantly coming forwards with insane pressure. No idea how this goes but a great addition to the card.

Oh man, this should be a great fight and I will be betting on Guida the whole ing way. I don't see any possible way that Nate Diaz can win this fight. Guida is too intense and too strong and too aggressive for Diaz. Guida will overwhelm Diaz. I can't stand Nate Diaz and seeing him win all the time makes me want to ing puke. I personally, don't think he's that good. Certainly not as good as he likes to think he is. Clay Guida is a different kind of fighter and will prove to be too much for the much younger Diaz. My good buddy is a big fan of Nate and I've never been. So, if he's willing, I will bet him $50 or possibly more on this fight. There's no ing way Nate Diaz can beat Clay Guida. Not a chance. I have total faith and confidence in Clay Guida 110%.

I ing hate both Diaz brothers. Clay will pick Nate apart. Little punk is going to need that pot to ease the pain when The Carpenter sends his ass to stockton with a loss.

ha! one of the most popular fighters vs. one of the most hated! you have to throw the records out the window on this one, but you can learn alot by who they have fought. if diaz went three rounds with neer, then he can't beat guida. not to mention the matador and tyson griffin are both much better than diaz, so... guida by decision!

Wow, two fighters who are really fun to watch. Should be interesting to see how Diaz matched up with someone who is s step higher on the pecking order than what he has been fighting.

That's an awful way to look at things, honestly. Different styles create different outcomes. Chuck beat Wandy. Wandy beat Rampage, but Chuck can't beat Rampage.

exactly...all the people who think Guida is going to completely shut out Diaz are kind of making me want to bet some money with them...
I am not even a huge Diaz fan and I actually think Guida will win..but for everyone who thinks it will be a completely one-sided fight for Guida are going to be in for a surprise.

Clay loves to bang. And Nate loves submissions. I want Clay to win because I honestly can't stand the the Diaz brothers. They sound like they have marbles in their mouth. Clay is a great wrestler and striker so because of that I give him a slight edge. But.
To me this fight is a toss up.

He's also tough enough to weather a storm in order to wait for his opening to submit a guy. Both Diaz brothers are slow starters, never really exploding in the first round. So that could be Guida's opening, if he can overwhelm Diaz early. But I'm not sure he can finish Nate with strikes -- at least not in the first round. Nate's standup isn't phenomenal, but he can take punishment. Very interesting fight.

I really think this is the first time we see Diaz tested. Manny was a good wrestler and was really getting to Diaz. I think Guida will make it even worse on him. Guida NEVER stops moving and I think that'll be a problem and overwhelm Diaz. I'm picking Clay Guida winning by Unanimous Decision.
