Just minutes after the "Final Resolution" Pay-Per-View event, TNA Management Director Jim Cornette informed TNAwrestling.com that as a result of the controversial outcome of the X Division Championship bout between Eric Young and Sheik Abdul Bashir involving referee Shane Sewell, the title is declared vacant and being held up!
Cornette also revealed that an 8-man tournament will begin this Thursday night on SpikeTV to determine a new champion, with the finals to take place at the "Genesis" Pay-Per-View on Sunday, January 11! The tournament bouts are below:
- Quarterfinal #1: Eric Young vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir (PPV rematch, taking place this Thursday night)
- Quarterfinal #2: Alex Shelley vs. "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal (Also this Thursday night)
- Quarterfinal #3: Chris Sabin vs. "The Guru" Sonjay Dutt (December 18)
- Quarterfinal #4: Consequences Creed vs. Japanese newcomer Akira Raijin (December 18)
Tune in this Thursday night on "iMPACT!" on SpikeTV to witness the start of the X Division Championship Tournament!

I see Shane Sewell once again getting involved in the Young/Bashir match, causing Young to advance, thus setting up a Bashir/Sewell match at Genesis. I wouldn't mind seeing anyone BUT Lethal winning this. Sonjay going all the way and winning the gold would be really cool. We'll see what happens...

kayfabe aside, why on earth would they continue to put shane sewell in bashir's matches??? i guess we can expect to see sewell as a wrestler soon  |

Hopefully the final is Shelley vs. Sabin with Shelley going over... to then feud with Suicide.

Not a terrible tournament. I'd like to see Sonjay Dutt get a run with the belt since it'd be new and he could be decent with Val if they were actually used somewhat often. I feel like him and Lethal have done almost nothing since their feud, which was actually good.

As long as Sabin or Shelley walk out of this with the strap, i'll be happy. Since they apparently aren't going to be getting a Tag Team title run anytime in the near future.

Alright why did they let Sewell referee the match tonight? Conry should know by now that theres beef between him and Bashir, if he wanted a clean match he should have used a different referee.
And whats with the X-Division rankings now? Is that now thrown out of the window?
