April 3rd, 2009 AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas Attendance: 15,800
This week’s Smackdown opens up with a video package showing the events that happened just before Smackdown went off the air. It showed when Edge Speared Shane McMahon on “The Cutting Edge” and the announcement that Edge will face a mystery opponent tonight.
After the weekly fireworks display, our announce team of Jim Ross & Tazz welcome us to this week’s Smackdown. They hype tonight’s main event, which will be Edge taking on a mystery opponent. Plus, we will be joined by some visitors from Raw when JBL teams with Umaga to take on Triple H and Shawn Michaels. A DX reunion on Smackdown tonight!
We are joined by our WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy to start Smackdown. He gets in the ring and plugs his big title match at WrestleMania XXV. He says that he wasn’t there last week due to something personal he had to deal with, but he did watch Smackdown on TV and he saw what Edge did to Shane. He says that ever since Shane took over as Co-General Manager, they have actual become friends and he will get revenge for Shane at ‘Mania. This brings out Shane, who appreciates what Jeff is trying to do but says that he can get revenge on his own. He announces that Edge’s mystery opponent tonight is no longer a mystery because Shane McMahon will step in that ring against Edge! Jeff claps for this and the crowd goes nuts.
Commercial Break.
As we come back, Vickie Guerrero is shown screaming at Shane backstage and saying that it’s not fair that Edge has a match just two nights before WrestleMania. Shane says that Edge brought this on himself and excuses himself to go get ready.
Money in the Bank Preview Eight Man Tag Match Cody Rhodes, World Tag Team Champion John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin & The Brian Kendrick w/ Ezekiel Jackson, and The Miz vs. Television Champion Evan Bourne, United States Champion Hurricane Helms, MVP & Rey Mysterio w/ Eve
This turned out to be the first of many good matches on Smackdown tonight. After a few minutes of action, this turned into a total spot fest. Each man hit a key spot which led to the end of the match. Morrison would nail his corkscrew split-legged moonsault on Bourne. MVP ran in and hit him with the Drive-By, but Rhodes came in and dropped him with the Cross Rhodes. He turned around to get nailed with the Nightmare on Helms Street. Helms got hit with The Kendrick right after, but then he looked up to see Bourne come crashing down on him knees first. Before Bourne came down though, Mysterio tagged him on the side. Benjamin ran in and nailed Bourne with the Paydirt, but was then nailed with the 619. Mysterio looked at the legal man, Morrison, who was laid out from the Drive-By. He went to the apron and hit his springboard splash to end it.
Winner: Evan Bourne, Hurricane Helms, Rey Mysterio & MVP (9:48) ***½ The crowd was really pumped after the spot fest ending. They loved the ending and the fact that the faces took the victory.
Commercial Break.
Singles Match WWE Tag Team Champion Primo w/ Carlito vs. Curt Hawkins w/ Zack Ryder
Primo asked for this one on one match because Hawkins and Ryder were the reason for his recent injury. Primo actually came into this match like a guy who really wanted revenge as he fired lefts and rights at Hawkins. Hawkins spent most of the match ducking for cover trying to avoid Primo’s flurry. Eventually though, Primo scored the victory when he hit Hawkins with his brother’s Back Cracker.
Winner: Primo (5:04) **
After the match, the New Hart Foundation come to the stage and stare down the WWE Tag Team Champs, who are in the ring. Hawkins and Ryder are stuck in the middle as they’re on the outside, with each member staring at one of the other teams.
Backstage, we see Shane McMahon in his office, Vickie Guerrero, nowhere in sight. Mr. Kennedy comes into the office and asks why he’s not booked tonight. Shane says that he just has a lot on his mind right now. Kennedy mentions that he kept a close eye on that Money in the Bank eight man tag match earlier. He did it to scout the potential winners so that he can take their hopes and dreams, just like it was taken from him. He thinks for a second, and then tells Shane that he would like a match with Edge next week on Smackdown as he still has some unfinished business with him concerning Money in the Bank. Shane agrees, but only if there’s enough of Edge left after he finishes with him tonight and Jeff Hardy’s done with him at WrestleMania.
Commercial Break.
We return and get a video package of The Undertaker’s 16 WrestleMania victories. It highlights WrestleMania XIV & XX, where he defeated Kane twice. ‘Taker’s voice comes over the video and he promises to take out his brother once and for all.
Tag Team Match John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Umaga vs. D-Generation X
DX gets their usual fantastic reaction from the crowd. They worked great together as always as they tagged frequently and hit their usual spots. Eventually though, Umaga and JBL worked over Michaels for a while. Michaels managed to escape their clutches and make the hot tag to The Game. Triple H fired at both of his opponents and took them down. After hitting a few moves, he nailed Umaga with a huge spinebuster. He posed to the crowd, but turned around right into a Clothesline from Hell from JBL. Shawn Michaels delivered Sweet Chin Music to JBL right after. Michaels woke up Triple H, who placed his arm over JBL and got the victory.
Winners: D-Generation X (10:00) **¾
After Triple H shook the out the cobwebs, he celebrated with Shawn. They did the DX “let’s get ready to suck it” thing for possibly the final time.
Commercial Break.
A video package is shown announcing that seven time Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus will be our final 2009 Hall of Fame inductee and she will be inducted by Mickie James. We are also shown the graphic announcing that Alter Bridge will be performing at WrestleMania XXV.
The Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson are shown backstage, with Kendrick nursing his wounds from his team’s earlier defeat. Hurricane Helms walks by and Kendrick stops him. He reminds him that last week, he pinned him in the middle of the ring and now he’s in line for a United States Title shot. Helms says that he can have his shot whenever he wants because he doesn’t back down from a challenge. Kendrick smirks at this.
Commercial Break.
Divas Tag Team Match Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Divas Champion Natalya Neidhart w/ Santino Marella vs. Maria & Michelle McCool
Despite McCool and Maria getting in some pretty good offense, this was by all means, a squash. Natalya and Beth showcased their dominance and really picked up momentum heading into WrestleMania. McCool went for the Wings of Love, but Beth reversed it, got behind her and hit the Glam Slam to win it.
Winners: Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Divas Champion Natalya Neidhart (6:43) **
We now see a split screen showing Edge and Shane McMahon walking backstage; their main event match is next!
Commercial Break.
No DQ Edge vs. Shane McMahon
Shane once again manages to turn in a very good match despite not being a full time wrestler. He & Edge put on a good showing and told a great story. Shane attacked him at the start with a flurry of fists which made Edge retreat to the outside for a breather. Edge took control of the match once he got back inside and really worked on Shane. After a while of that, Shane came back with some high impact moves. He went to the top and hit his big elbow drop but Edge kicked out. Shane went outside and grabbed a steel chair. He began to hit Edge with some of his trademark punches, but Edge ducked the final one and nailed him with a Spear. He covered yet surprisingly only got a two count. Edge then knocked him out with the chair. He followed that by delivering an Edgecution onto that chair and getting the three.
Winner: Edge (11:16) ***½
Edge wasn’t done with the beating just yet. He got another chair and set up for the one man con-chair-to. Before he could execute the move though, WWE Champion Jeff Hardy ran down to make the save. Once he got in the ring though, Edge clocked him with the chair. He raised the chair in the air as Smackdown went off the air.

Nice to see DX in a one match return against JBL and Umaga. Awesome 8 Man Tag Match. I loved it. That match is really realistic, WWE would do something like this, too. Nice match to start off SMmackdown. Next match was I alright. I would have rather had a match with like Primo vs. Miz, or Carlito vs. Morrison. I can't wait for the Kennedy vs. Edge match next week. Glad Kennedy wants pay back. It was expected that DX would've won, but nice victory, though. Cool to see Trish in the HOF. The reverse by Beth Phoenix seemed cool. Awesome main event. Nice choice having Edge win. The Edgecution on the chair seemed awesome. Glad Edge won the match. Smackdown heading into Mania was awesome. I can't wait to read WM25. I am really enjoying this diary so far.

Good eight-man tag to start off the show, makes sense to do that for sure. Like the idea of Primo using the Back Cracker as well. DX winning was predictable. Again, made sense for Beth & Natalya to win. Good win for Edge there to close out the show. Average show, right match decisions though heading towards Wrestlemania.

Smackdown was a solid show and it's nice to see that Wrestlemania 25 is the next show. Opening segment and eightman tag were fantastic, glad to see the faces pick up the victory. Morrison, Bourne or MVP to win Money in the Bank. Primo winning his match was fine, he really is a good talent. DX Reunion was also nice, match made sense, still not a fan of the Hell in a Cell match being at 'mania but that's just me. I will mark out of Kendrick takes that "anytime" message to heart and challanges Helms after the Money in the Bank match at 'mania to win the title. Woman's match was what it was, nice to see the champions win. Main event was solid, always like to see Shane competing in some form, the ending sounded great. Would like Jeff to retain the title at 'mania but I see Edge winning it.

Awesome, three days to wait until WrestleMania XXV. I'm anxious awaiting that. Great way to kick off WWE SmackDown with WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy though I'm seriously not too big on the sound of Jeff Hardy facing Edge at WrestleMania, if I'm honest. Awesome eight-man tag team interpromotional match to get us hyped up for Money In The Bank, it should be one epic display, I see John Morrison or Shelton Benjamin winning it to be honest, a heel winning Money In The Bank is better and could display Benjamin's cocky gimmick. Primo beating Curt Hawkins is fine, wasn't the best and really wasn't anything major. D-Generation X beating John Bradshaw Layfield and Umaga is predictable, really think it should of main event though. Wow, fairly decent womens tag team match, wasn't really a bad match, not as bad as you'd think. Good main event, looking forward to WrestleMania, it looks to be epic.

- Edge/Shane was the obvious move. - A great eight man tag team match to start the wrestling portion. Like the spot fest that occurred with all the finishes. - Yawn for Primo/Hawkins. Seemed like a momentum match for Primo. - DX picking up the win is alright. Makes sense that you had HHH pin JBL to avoid any pre Mania let down finishes. - Main event didn’t seem to vicious or anything like that. Liked that Jeff failed in saving Shane. Solid main event. - Good show, can’t wait for Mania…

April 5th, 2009 Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas Attendance: 77,871
WrestleMania XXV opens with a video package showcasing recaps of everything leading up to tonight. It shows the build to our World Championship 4 Way and our WWE Championship match. It shows the build to the ECW Title match, the Intercontinental Title match, Shawn Michaels and JBL’s issues and the renewed rivalry of Kane and his brother, the Undertaker!
Alicia Keys opens the show by singing a beautiful rendition of “America The Beautiful”. The opening pyro goes off and the announcers welcome us to the 25th anniversary of the grand daddy of them all. We cut to Mickey Rourke in the middle of the ring, as he will serve as the special guest ring announcer during our opening contest.
Intercontinental Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Paul Burchill w/ Katie Lea Burchill CM Punk came out first and that really got the crowd going as they stood on their feet for the IC Champ. Paul Burchill came out accompanied by his sister, Katie Lea to mostly boos. These two began the match with a slow feeling out process. Punk knew that Burchill was the stronger man and he wanted to work him over on the mat. Burchill surprised a lot of people and held his own against Punk, although Punk did get the upper hand. Burchill took control and hit a shoulderbreaker and northern lights suplex, but only got a two count. They went back and forth for a little bit and Punk hit him with a series of slaps and kicks as he cut Burchill down to his knees. He nailed him with a double underhook back breaker for just a two count and Paul rolled to the outside. Katie Lea got involved when she grabbed Punk’s leg as he ran off the ropes. This led to the referee tossing her from the match. Burchill was still outside and Punk ran and nailed him with a suicide dive. The fight got back inside the ring, where Burchill locked Punk in an armbar. Punk managed to reach the ropes. Burchill picked up the champion and set up for the C4, but Punk elbowed his way out of the move, picked up Burchill onto his shoulders, and dropped him down with the Go To Sleep.
Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: CM Punk (13:24) ***½
CM Punk celebrated his victory as the crowd popped big for his victory. We then cut to the backstage area where an interview is cut with Montel Vontavious Porter. He says that tonight is finally his night to fully shine as he will win Money in the Bank and go on to become the future World Champion that he’s destined to be. The crowd sounded really behind him during this promo as we cut back to the arena.
WWE Tag Team Championship: Carlito & Primo (c) vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder vs. The New Hart Foundation The New Hart Foundation came to the ring first, absent was Natalya Neidhart who must be prepping for her big match later tonight, and they got a mixed reaction. Next, came the former WWE Tag Team Champs, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder to mostly boos. Lastly, the Champions came out to the best pop of any team so far. This was interesting because one member of each team was allowed inside the ring at all times, so it was basically a triple threat match. Primo started the match and looked to attack Hawkins right off the bat as revenge for his injury. This allowed Wilson to lay back and allow this to happen. Carlito and Primo had control for the majority of the match until the ending. Hawkins and Ryder dropped Primo with their double Edgecution and covered but it was broken up by Smith. Smith showed some of that strength that was his dad’s trademark as he hit Hawkins with a running powerslam and he nailed Ryder with a big clothesline. This was all for naught though, because when he tried to pin Primo, the official didn’t count because neither of them were the legal men for their team. This allowed Carlito to sneak in and attempt the Back Cracker, but right behind him was TJ Wilson who chop blocked him. This allowed Wilson and Smith to connect with the Hart Attack and take home the gold.
Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions: The New Hart Foundation (8:17) **¾
Our new Tag Team Champions celebrate with their titles up the ramp as the other two teams look on disappointed. Natalya Neidhart comes out to the ramp to congratulate her team. Backstage, we see Shawn Michaels getting ready for his match tonight. Triple H enters the room and hugs his best friend and they get to talking. Triple H mentions that he really hopes Michaels wins tonight because it would be a shame for him to end his career with a loss to a man he hates. Triple H told him to just go out there and be “Mr. WrestleMania” like he always is at this time of the year. Michaels’ confidence seems to be boosted by this little pep talk.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Rey Mysterio vs. MVP w/ Eve vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. World Tag Team Champion John Morrison vs. Television Champion Evan Bourne vs. The Brian Kendrick w/ Ezekiel Jackson vs. United States Champion Hurricane Helms Cody was first out to some boos. He was followed by Helms, Benjamin, Mysterio, Kendrick, Bourne and Morrison, who were cheered and booed accordingly. MVP was out last, with Eve, and he got the loudest pop of anybody in the match. The match started with everybody going after ladders and it was high spot after high spot from there on in. Kendrick hit The Kendrick on Hurricane Helms while running up a ladder. Morrison nailed a huge spot when he hit Bourne with the Moonlight Drive off of a ladder. Benjamin did his usual athletic spots by showing off his balance a few times. Rhodes and MVP were battling on top of a ladder; while next to them Benjamin and Mysterio were going at it. Benjamin turned to MVP and hit him with a Paydirt off the ladder, while Mysterio hit Rhodes with a big hurricanrana off the other ladder. Later, Rhodes hit the Cross Rhodes onto Helms, on a ladder. Kendrick and Ezekiel had a spot like Christian and Tomko did back at the first Money in the Bank, where Ezekiel climbed the ladder with Kendrick on his shoulders. MVP and Mysterio tilted the ladder over, which sent Ezekiel to the mat, but sent Kendrick to the outside and he landed on the ECW announce table, much like how Shawn Michaels hit the announce table at last year’s WrestleMania. The only difference being that Kendrick landed on his side and looked really shaken up. Morrison nailed both Mysterio and MVP with a ladder and set up the ladder to climb. Bourne climbed the ladder set up in the corner and hit Morrison with the double knee drop off of it. He got right up and climbed again and hit his Shooting Star Press off a ladder, but he didn’t hit it cleanly and looked to be shaken up. Rhodes got in the ring and was starting to climb. He made it halfway up until Helms climbed up the other side and they began to trade fists. MVP set up a ladder next to them and was followed up by Mysterio. All four men began to brawl and hit each other until Helms dropped Rhodes with a Nightmare on Helms Street off the ladder. This left MVP and Mysterio to go at it atop the ladder until MVP hit him with the briefcase the way Mr. Kennedy caught CM Punk at WrestleMania 23. Mysterio fell off the ladder and MVP reached up for the briefcase. As he did this though, Shelton Benjamin spring boarded from the ropes to the ladder and knocked off MVP once he landed. He reached up and pulled down the briefcase.
Winner and New Money in the Bank Briefcase Holder: Shelton Benjamin (16:19) ****
The crowd boos at the outcome of this match as they were pulling heavily for MVP who came oh, so close to victory. Shelton Benjamin walked back up the ramp celebrating his win as we are left seeing the image of seven broken bodies in the ring. We cut to a video of last night’s Hall of Fame Ceremony. Just like last year, the inductees come out to the stage. We see “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Owen Hart’s wife and children, Bob Backlund, Diana Smith and Harry Smith, Howard Finkle, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Arn Anderson and Trish Stratus. They all are introduced and the crowd cheers at the sound of each person, popping loudest for Steve Austin. The next two biggest pops were Trish and Owen.
We then cut to a video package showing the history of John “Bradshaw” Layfield and the “Heart Break Kid” Shawn Michaels.
Fight for Shawn Michaels’ Contract: John “Bradshaw” Layfield vs. Shawn Michaels Mr. T is our special guest time keeper for this match. JBL made his way to the ring first and was greeted with heavy boos as the Texas crowd doesn’t want to see their hometown hero be forced to retire tonight. Michaels made his way out next to the loudest ovation of the night. The match started out pretty slow as JBL used some very boring rest holds. Shawn managed to work his way out of them, but JBL hit him with a big boot. Michaels went for a kick, but JBL caught his foot and Michaels hit an enziguri. Michaels went for a flying forearm but somehow JBL caught him and nailed a fallaway slam. It seemed like every time Michaels was going to turn the match around, JBL did something to keep the tide in his favor. JBL hit him with two elbow drops but Michaels moved out of the way of the third and when both men got up, he caught JBL with Sweet Chin Music. He covered but to everyone’s surprise, JBL kicked out. Both men got up and this time, JBL caught Michaels from out of nowhere with a Clothesline from Hell. Michaels kicked out right before three to the crowd’s delight. Michaels hit his flying forearm this time and then his big elbow drop off the top. Instead of tuning up the band, Michaels grabbed JBL’s legs and locked in his modified Figure Four. After about thirty seconds, JBL gave in and tapped out.
Winner by submission: Shawn Michaels (14:54) ***¼
Shawn Michaels celebrated the victory with his home state crowd as we cut to the back where Pamela Anderson is standing by. She’s there because she represents some of WrestleMania’s past as she was involved at WrestleMania XI. Standing by with her was one of the challengers for the World Championship tonight, Chris Jericho. Jericho cut a promo saying that he was going to be World Champion again tonight and prove once and for all that he really is the best wrestler in the world.
Next, the video package hyping up the ECW Championship match is shown. It goes all the way to when Mr. McMahon called Elijah Burke the future of ECW. It then shows Burke’s return to ECW a few months back and how he was the longest lasting ECW superstar in the Rumble. It finishes by showing everything Burke & Matt have been through the last two months, including Extreme Rules tag matches, a boxing match, a straight up fight and when Burke bloodied Matt backstage.
ECW Championship: Matt Hardy (c) vs. Elijah Burke Elijah Burke made his way to the ring first to mostly boos but a few cheers scattered in there. Matt Hardy followed to a huge ovation. The two men began the match with a straight up fist fight that quickly spilled to the outside. While out there, Burke threw Matt into the turnbuckle a few times. He then whipped him into the Raw announce table and Matt went in back first. Burke continued to work on Matt’s back for a little bit longer by hitting a back breaker and then a Russian leg sweep. Matt began to get back on the offensive as he hit Burke with a Side Effect from out of nowhere for a two count. Matt went to the second rope and hit a leg drop but again Burke kicked out. Burke reversed an Irish whip and Matt ended up squashing the referee between himself and the turnbuckle. This allowed Burke to go outside and get a steel chair. He swung it at Matt, who ducked, kicked Burke in the stomach and hit the Twist of Fate. He covered but the referee was down. He got off of Burke to wake up the referee. He finally revived him and went to cover Burke, but he was playing possum and rolled him up for two only. They got up at the same time; Burke ducked a punch from Matt and sent him into the corner, ran in, and nailed him with the Elijah Express for the victory.
Winner and NEW ECW Champion: Elijah Burke (13:05) ***¼
The crowd boos as Elijah Burke is announced as the new champion. He celebrates with the title as he has fulfilled Mr. McMahon’s prediction that he is the face of ECW. We then cut to a commercial announcing that WrestleMania XXVI will take place on March 28th, 2010 and will be live from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona!
Then, we are taken to the GM’s office where Teddy Long, Stephanie McMahon, Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon and Vickie Guerrero stand. Stephanie and Vickie are arguing over how Vickie has clapped for her husband’s attacks on her brother Shane. Shane and Vince break them up and tell them to enjoy tonight, and Shane whispers something to Stephanie. She looks at him kind of upset and walks out.
Now, Jim Ross and Tazz take us back to the history between Triple H and Umaga. It shows when Umaga returned to Smackdown and attacked Triple H at Vickie Guerrero’s request. It shows all the brawls they’ve been through and their brutal wars they’ve had.
Hell in a Cell: Umaga vs. Triple H The cell is slowly lowered onto the ring. Donald Trump is announced as the time keeper for this match, which is followed by the theme music of the “Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga! He was met with boos, which quickly turned into cheers once “The King of Kings” blasted over the speakers. Once the cell was locked, these two went right after each other with a big fist fight. Umaga took control in the early portion of the match and worked over Triple H for the first few minutes. They took the action to the outside where Umaga smashed Triple H’s head into the cell a few times. Triple H blocked one of these and hit Umaga into it. He got the steel steps and knocked off the top part. He then hit Umaga with a piledriver onto the steps, which seems to be a common spot in Hell in a Cell matches. He covers but gets just a two count. Triple H orders the referees to open the Cell, but they won’t, so Umaga rams Triple H through the door! He throws Triple H into the announce table and went for his running butt bump but Triple H moved at the last second. This was the turning point of the match. Triple H took control and began to fire shots at Umaga’s head. He nailed him with a steel chair a few times, which busted open the big man. Triple H went under the Smackdown announce table, where he pulled out his trusty sledgehammer. He swung at Umaga, but he ducked and nailed The Game. They fought onto the Smackdown announce table, where Umaga hit Triple H with the Samoan Spike. He climbed onto the railing next to the table and hit a big splash through it, leaving just Raw’s table standing. After laying there for a while, Umaga got up and went to grab a chair but before he did, he grabbed Donald Trump, who he has a history with going back to WrestleMania 23, and hit him with a badly sold Samoan Spike. Umaga forgot about the chair and just dragged Triple H back to the ring. On the way though, Triple H grabbed his sledgehammer. Umaga picked him up for another Samoan Spike, but Triple H nailed him with the sledgehammer a few times, in the stomach, knee and back. He ended it with a shot to the ribs followed by a Pedigree.
Winner: Triple H (18:19) ***¾
Triple H celebrates his victory by raising his sledgehammer in the air as we are given one final look at his bloody face before we cut to the backstage area. Standing by is Todd Grisham who is interviewing the WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy. Hardy cuts a promo talking about how hard he fought to get where he is, and how he won’t let Edge end his dream. He is cut off by Shelton Benjamin, who is proudly displaying his Money in the Bank briefcase. He tells Jeff that now that he is Mr. Money in the Bank, he can finally hit the mother load. And he reminds Jeff that it might not be Edge who ends his dream tonight. It could very well be The Gold Standard. Shelton walks off as Jeff looks on wondering if he really would cash in his title shot tonight.
We now see a really long video package showing everything Edge and Jeff Hardy have been through. It started by showing clips of the Tag Team Ladder match from almost a decade ago at No Mercy 1999. It then shows clips of them over the past decade, including Edge spearing him when Jeff was holding the belts at WrestleMania X-7, all the way to Armageddon ’08 where Jeff took Edge’s WWE Title. Next, it shows Edge winning the 2009 Royal Rumble and the past few weeks between the two.
WWE Championship: Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Edge Alter Bridge was on one side of the entrance and they performed Edge’s new theme music, “Coming Home”. The performance was great and it helped Edge get a mixed reaction from the crowd, and it was obvious that he has plenty of fans here tonight. He was in the ring for a few seconds until Endeverafter, on the other side of the entrance, began to play “No More Words” as Jeff Hardy came out to the second biggest ovation of the night behind only Shawn Michaels. Another great performance by our special guest band. The match started with a collar and elbow tie-up. Edge overpowered Jeff and launched him into the corner. On their next tie-up attempt, Jeff surprised everyone and threw Edge this time. The two men went back and forth for a while, with Edge hitting the Edge-O-Matic and Jeff hitting his sitout jawbreaker as their two biggest spots so far. Jeff climbed to deliver ten punches to Edge in the corner, but Edge walked out and was going to power bomb Jeff. Jeff punched Edge and turned himself around, so Edge dropped him with an Electric Chair Drop instead. He only got a two. Edge got set to hit the Spear, but Jeff moved out of the way and ran to the opposite corner. Edge hit the turnbuckle and stumbled towards Jeff, who hit the Whisper in the Wind. He also covered for just a two count. Edge rolled to the outside, where Jeff hit a suicide plancha onto him. He threw Edge back in the ring and got a ladder from under it. He set it up standing in the corner. Jeff climbed the top rope and leap frogged over it, to leg drop Edge. The only problem was that Edge moved out of the way. Despite still having an injured shoulder, Edge rand and Speared Jeff at this moment. He held his shoulder on the ground in pain for a few seconds, but then managed to place an arm over Jeff and Jeff kicked out just in the nick of time. Edge was shocked at this and picked up Jeff for the Edgecution, but Jeff spun out of it, kicked Edge in the stomach and nailed the Twist of Fate. He climbed to the top rope and finished it off with a Swanton Bomb.
Winner and Still WWE Champion: Jeff Hardy (17:09) ****½
Jeff Hardy, along with the crowd, celebrates. This will go down as probably the biggest win in Jeff’s career and it was a fantastic match and a fitting end to this long rivalry. We cut backstage where Shane and Stephanie McMahon were happily clapping for what they just saw, while Vickie was on the verge of tears. Shane mentions something about how he still plans on getting revenge on Edge. This drives Vickie to get up and leave the room.
Divas Tag Team Match: Melina & Gail Kim vs. Divas Champion Natalya Neidhart & Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix w/ Santino Marella Melina and Gail Kim made their way to the ring first to a chorus of cheers. Natalya and “The Glamazon” followed, with Santino Marella at their side, to mostly boos. Beth and Melina start off, with Beth totally over powering her. Beth and Natalya had the upper hand for the majority of the match as they cut the ring in half and worked over Melina. Natalya hit a backbreaker, while Beth nailed a suplex. Beth dropped her with a big military press slam and covered but only got a two. Beth picked her up for a belly-to-back suplex, but Melina blocked it and hit a bulldog. She made the hot tag to Kim, while Beth tagged Natalya. Kim came in firing and nailed both of her opponents with shots. She climbed the top and hit a missile dropkick, followed by a second rope leg drop, but Beth broke up the count. She tagged back out to Melina who came in and went for the LA Sunset, but again Beth broke up the move. This led to Kim running in and tackling her, which sent both of them to the outside. Santino got on the apron to distract the referee but Melina punched him and knocked him off the apron. She turned around right into a sitout powerbomb from Natalya to end it.
Winners: Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Divas Champion Natalya (7:17) **½
“The Glamazon” and “The Anvilette” celebrate their victory with their titles and Santino Marella as Gail Kim checks on Melina in the ring. We cut from that scene to a commercial for next month’s Backlash Pay-Per-View.
Next, comes a video package. It shows The Undertaker getting attacked by an unknown person for weeks until Kane revealed himself to be the attacker at No Way Out. It then shows what they’ve been through since No Way Out, leading up to tonight. When we return from that to see Pete Rose, who appeared at WrestleMania XIV, XV, 2000 & XX, in the ring. He announces that tonight, WrestleMania XXV has set a record for most fans in Reliant Stadium history with 77,871! At that moment, Kane’ fireworks go off and “Slow Chemical” begins to play. He comes down the ramp and once he gets in the ring, Pete Rose seems to have learned his lesson and he gets out of the ring before falling to Kane at a fourth WrestleMania.
Brother vs. Brother: Kane w/ Paul Bearer vs. The Undertaker With the Big Red Machine already waiting in the ring, a single gong is heard and the lights go out. The Undertaker comes out slowly to the ring, dressed like his Ministry of Darkness days, with the hood and everything. He gets in the ring, takes off his hood and we see his eyes are roll into the back of his head. The bell rings and the two brothers go face to face with each other. They immediately begin to trade punches with Kane getting the better. He puts his brother in the corner and delivers some stiff shots and thrusts to the throat. ‘Taker reverses and puts Kane in the corner and delivers soup bones. The two went back and forth for a while until they went outside. ‘Taker hit his brother with Snake Eyes onto the guardrail. He ran at him and hit him with a big boot. ‘Taker rolled him into the ring, but hit his guillotine leg drop on the apron. After that they got in the ring and traded spots until ‘Taker went for Old School, but Kane caught him by the throat and nailed him with a Chokeslam. ‘Taker kicked out though. Kane attempted a Tombstone, but ‘Taker reversed it and hit his own Tombstone. ‘Taker picked up Kane and hit a second Tombstone, but his brother kicked out. He looks surprised at this and went for a third, but Kane reversed it and nailed a Tombstone. ‘Taker kicked out and Kane seemed to be getting frustrated. Kane climbed to the top for his flying clothesline, but ‘Taker moved out of the way. He picked up Kane and delivered the Last Ride powerbomb but again only got a two count. ‘Taker got frustrated and began to argue with the referee, which turned out to be a mistake. He turned around and Kane nailed him with a falling powerbomb. When they landed though, ‘Taker locked his brother in the Hell’s Gate chokehold and after about a minute, Kane fell unconscious.
Winner by submission: The Undertaker (14:57) ***¾
Jim Ross and Tazz hype up that we just witnessed the best match between Kane and The Undertaker and that ‘Taker is now 17-0 at WrestleMania! After watching The Undertaker celebrate for a while, we cut to Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler, who introduce us to a video package for tonight’s Four-Way World Title Main Event.
The video package shows John Cena win the World Title from Chris Jericho at Armageddon. It then shows the night after, when Orton delivered punts to Cena & Jericho. Next, it shows the Royal Rumble, where Orton, Batista & Jericho all were eliminated at the same time. Next, comes No Way Out’s Elimination Chamber, where Orton had help from Cody Rhodes to win and it shows him winning by punting Batista and Chris Jericho. Next it shows Mr. McMahon returning and forcing Orton, Batista & Jericho into a Triple Threat match for the spot to fight Cena tonight. That match ended in a time limit draw so the match became a Fatal Four Way Elimination Match. The video ends by showing clips of Cena, Batista, Jericho and Orton’s multiple singles matches over the past few weeks.
World Champrionship Fatal Four Way Elimination Match: John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Batista vs. Chris Jericho Rev Theory began to play “Voices” where Endeverafter was earlier, and out came Randy Orton to a mixed reaction, but surprisingly just as many boos as cheers. Chris Jericho was next out and he got plenty of heat. Saliva, where Alter Bridge was, begins to play “I Walk Alone” as the Animal makes his way to the ring to a big ovation and he does his normal taunt with the fireworks in the back. John Cena makes his way out next to a huge ovation. The introductions were done in-ring with Cena, Batista, Orton and Jericho getting the loudest pops in that order. The match began with the four of them just really going after each other. Jericho and Cena battled in the corner, while Batista and Orton fought to the outside. While on the outside, Orton made good use of the No DQ stipulation in all Triple Threat and Fatal Four Way matches in the WWE, by choking Batista with some cables on the outside. Meanwhile, Jericho was working over Cena in the ring. He had him in the corner and nailed a springboard dropkick but only got a two. He waited for Cena to get up and went for a spinning heel kick, but the Champ ducked, ran off the ropes and nailed a big shoulder block. Orton and Batista made their way back in the ring and the four men went at it, back and forth for the next few minutes. Jericho took it old school by hitting a flying back elbow off the top and then hitting the Breakdown onto Batista. Batista fired back and drilled Orton with a spinebuster. He began to shake the ropes violently. Jericho went to hit him with a chair when he turned around, but Batista grabbed the chair mid-swing. He swung it at Jericho, who ducked and when Batista turned around, hit him with a Codebreaker with the chair in between Jericho’s knees and Batista’s face. He covered and eliminated the Animal from the match. Orton and Jericho now worked as a team and double teamed the Champ. They hit him with a double suplex and then Orton set him up for the DDT on the second rope. Jericho didn’t let him do it though and rolled up Orton with a school boy for a two. Orton was upset at this and they began to rumble. This ended when Jericho nailed him with the Codebreaker. Before he could pin though, Cena was up and hit him with the FU and eliminated him. Cena rolled over to cover Orton but just barely got a two. They fought for about another eight minutes, even taking it to the outside. Back inside though, Cena had Orton up for the FU, but out came Cody Rhodes. Cena put Orton down and traded fists with Rhodes until he knocked him to the outside. Cena looked at Orton on the floor and locked on the STFU. Out of nowhere comes the returning Ted Dibiase Jr. with a chair in hand. He gets in the ring and nails Cena in the back of the head with it. He picks him up and delivers his Million Dollar Dream Leg Sweep. Orton begins to get up and high fives Dibiase. He waits for Cena to get up and nails an RKO. He covers for the victory.
Winner and NEW World Heavyweight Champion: Randy Orton (36:19) ****¼
Dibiase and Rhodes get the World Title and put it around Orton’s waist. He celebrates with it and then poses with his Legacy teammates in the middle of the ring as WrestleMania XXV closes.

- Well, lets just say I have been waiting awhile for this one. - Punk retaining is alright, would have hoped for something different with Paul going over, but oh well. He seemingly had a good showing. - Awesome to see the Hart Foundation winning the tag team gold. Solid finish to match. - Great MITB match with all of those ridiculous spots. Benjamin winning is great, something I have always wanted to see happen. - Would’ve liked to see HBK win with the sweet chin music personally. Sounded like a simple match. - Burke winning the title from Hardy is awesome. He is such a great worker. - HITC seemed kind of disappointing. The Trump spot made me chuckle as I could see Trump badly selling the move. HHH winning was predictable. - Solid Hardy/Edge match and glad to see Hardy retain the title. - Taker/Kane was a good match. Kane passing out was good to keep him strong. - Shocked to see Batista eliminated first, I thought Jericho would have been. Glad that Orton won, but wish he do so cleanly. Though, I do hope to see DiBiase feud with Cena now. - Overall, a really good read.

Awesome, WrestleMania XXV is finally here. I personally think there should of been a better opening contest to the grandaddy of them all, I mean it seems slightly like it'd be a filler match on this card, no matter how good it is. CM Punk and Paul Burchill would have one hell of a match, though, glad Punk retained the WWE Intercontinental Championship though. Hmm, decent three way tag team match, I like The New Foundation winning the WWE Tag Team Championships. Reminds me however of the filler bout from WrestleMania XIX. Also, I feel Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins were thrown in there, as much as I love them. Awesome to see Shelton Benjamin win Money In The Bank, I love that a heel won it, a cocky heel with the briefcase is always good. Really wish Shawn Michaels hadn't beaten John Bradshaw Layfield, well I mean face him. Surely you could of ended it like WWE at No Way Out. Wow, awesome that Elijah Burke beat Matt Hardy to win the ECW Championship. I personally feel Hell in a Cell was unnecessary for Umaga vs Triple H, Triple H winning is pretty predictable. Awesome WWE Championship match between Edge and Jeff Hardy. Filler divas tag team match. The Undertaker beating Kane is predictable, been done to death to be honest. Pretty awesome main event. Hmm, a heel closing down WrestleMania is interesting, and reminds me alot of WrestleMania 2000 in a good way.

First of all, awesome graphics and what not. Punk-Burchill was a reasonable opening match. You know I hated Burchill being on the card, so glad Punk won. NHF winning made sense, they would probably have the most potential out of the three teams. Good call having Shelton win; I was hoping it'd be him or Cody. And in this diary he's almost at the main event level anyway after his Royal Rumble ish push. Like using Pamela, especially after an HBK match. Glad HBK won, although I feel like he should have won with Sweet Chin Music and not a figure four. Really glad you gave Burke the strap, and I like the McMahon references. Not a fan of doing HIAC at Mania, but glad HHH won anyway. And heh, liked the Samoan Spike on Trump. Pretty surprised that Hardy kept the belt, but I guess it makes him seem more than just a transitional champion. Natalya/Beth winning is fine, like the realistic placement of the match. Funny that Pete Rose bolted out of the way. Taker over Kane was fine, but again, not sure about the submission finish. Mixed feelings on DiBiase interfering with a chair like that. Couldn't see it happening in a Wrestlemania main event. Overall there were a few things that I would question, but still a really good show. Hope a draft comes somewhat soon to shake things up.

Nice way to kick things off. I couldn't see Burchill winning the title, even if it would have been great if he did. The New Hart Foundation winning the tag titles is awesome, man. Hope they get a lengthy run with the titles. I'm kind of glad to see Shelton win the MITB since I'm a fan of his, but from a realistic point of view, I don't like him winning it. The only World Championship I can see Shelton winning is the ECW Championship and everyone knows you won't have him cash in his shot for that title. Nice that Burke won the ECW Championship. Natalya/Beth winning made sense since they where the champs. Orton winning is fantastic.

Thats one bigass show, nice graphics, Punk and Birchill good match to kick off, glad Punk retained although I may have perfered Punk in MITB, New Hart Foundation FTW, gald you pput that 2nd not 1st, no problems with MITB part from if you have Cody you should have had Ted or replace him, SSP off the ladder has to happen with Evan, too many finishers off the ladder, so glad Benjamin wan as long as he isn't US champ, Glad HBK wan and couldn't care less about the ECW match I think Eljah is overated in this diary and Matt is way better as heel, HIAC why? so glad HHH wan, Edge/Hardy sounds awsome with video, rather Edge win but this does solidifly Jeff as a real champ, divas match meh but realistic, Meh no one will beat Taker, ME sounds good but Batista? why? Would have liked Cena to have walked out with the gold but I don't mind, keep it up and good luck

This is one massive show man, probably one of your best write ups yet. I'm liking the graphics. I was really expecting Burchill to take away the championship, since I dont see where else you can go with Punk as champion. Great to see the New Hart Foundation getting the title. I'm not happy that MVP didn't get the Money in the Bank win, he should have got it this year. I was always expecting Michaels to get the win, and I'm hoping that you'll end the feud with that match. Burke as ECW champion is pure gold man, I'm really pumped for his reign as champion. Great Hell in a Cell match, although I would have liked to have seen Umaga get the shocking win. I've always been of the opinion that the Royal Rumble winner should have been in the main event, so I'm not happy with the order you've gone with. I was also pulling for Edge to win the title. Taker/ Kane has been done before, and your match didn't have anything special to diffrentiate it, but it was still a good match. Taker was never going to lose though. Great main event, awesome to see Orton winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

-The WWE is said to be pleased with the outcome of WrestleMania XXV. They set an attendance record for Reliant Stadium and it was well recieved.
-With the draft coming up, expect each show to get 3 televised picks, and then 5 supplemental picks. Each of the 3 televised picks will be pretty big names and expect those names to recieve big pushes.
-It was a last minute decision to give Shelton Benjamin the Money in the Bank victory. At first they were going to go with MVP, but after CM Punk's World Title win last year was considered a fluke, they didn't want to have to that happen to a face again. Both MVP and Shelton will be getting main event pushes though.
-Expect a possible Triple H heel turn within the next few months. He's been wanting to turn heel again for a while and he feels that it'll be a good idea around draft time.

Glad to see you finally made it to Wrestlemania. Good show and well written as usual.
Punk vs. Burchill sounded like a good match. Surprised Punk won I expected Burchill to get a run. I hope Burchill continues to get pushed and possibly wins the belt at Backlash.
Wish the Tag Title match was a unification match with Miz & Morrison added but this was still a good match. Hawkins & Ryder weren't really needed they are a boring team. Glad Hart Foundation won they are a great team. Hopefully they have an interesting title reign and hopefully face Miz & Morrison soon.
Money in the Bank sounded like a great spot match. Sounds like they all killed themselves by the end of it. I expected MVP to get the win so I am surprised Benjamin won it. Both men would have been good winners so as long as you still push MVP then its alright. Be interesting how you use Benjamin with the briefcase for his push.
Was not interested in JBL vs. HBK. I think you could have ended that at No Way Out or on Raw. Wish you went with Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels would have been great. Anyway glad HBK got the win and hope he moves onto a new and interesting storyline.
Good win for Elijah Burke glad he is finally getting the push he deserved in WWE. I hope he holds onto the belt for a long while to come. Matt Hardy im bored of so maybe send him to Smackdown in the supplement draft.
Didn't like Triple H vs. Umaga having a match at Wrestlemania. Umaga has jobbed to Triple H like a 100 times in the past year so he didn't seem like a real threat to him and the Hell in a Cell match should have been saved for a bigger Wrestlemania match. Glad Triple H is turning heel as he is getting boring. Hope he goes back to Raw in the draft.
Edge vs. Jeff seemed a good match. Not sure if I like Jeff winning or not. It makes sense for Hardy to come out on top but I prefer Edge as champion. Hopefully Hardy loses the belt soon though as he shouldn't have a long title reign. Maybe lose it to a big draft pick from Raw.
Womens match is just filler. Glad the champs won and I hope they continue to be champions for a while longer.
Not sure how I feel about Kane & Undertaker facing. They have faced so many times now that it just seems too much of a repeat. Plus as much as I want Undertaker to stay undefeated if he had to face Kane at WM then he should have lost to end the streak and his last WM match. Kane may as well retire now since with another loss to Undertaker he just seems to have had it and there is nothing left for him. Undertaker needs one last big storyline with someone for his retirement, maybe Jericho.
Good main event to end Wrestlemania. Orton winning was good although predictable. Not sure on DiBiase interfering to end the match. Its good to hopefully set up DiBiase vs. Cena feud but as an ending to Wrestlemania it just didn't feel right. Hope Orton has a good reign as champion and doesn't lose it to Triple H or anything in just a couple of months.

April 6th, 2009 New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana Attendance: 14,567
Raw opens with a video package showcasing the events that occurred at WrestleMania last night. It starts by showing CM Punk retain the Intercontinental Title, and then it shows Beth Phoenix and Natalya picking up the win over Gail Kim & Melina. Next it shows Shawn Michaels defeating JBL to keep his career alive and it finally finished with Randy Orton winning the World Heavyweight thanks to an assist from Cody Rhodes and the returning Ted Dibiase Jr.
Before our announce team can welcome us to Raw, “Sexy Boy” blares over the loudspeakers as Shawn Michaels makes his way to the ring. He looks to be on the verge of tears before he even starts to speak. He begins to talk about his career and how much he has enjoyed his time in the WWE. He then says that he’s was really happy when he beat JBL last night. But he was happy because he beat JBL, not because he saved his career. He announces that he went into WrestleMania wanting out of his contract with JBL and to make sure that he kept his crown as “Mr. WrestleMania”. But, if everybody remembers, back at SummerSlam last year he was going to announce his retirement. Well, tonight, HBK officially announces his retirement. He said that he has a family to support, which he can now do with JBL’s money. He needs to spend time with his wife and children. He calls out his special guest tonight, Triple H. The Game makes his way to the ring, also looking on the verge of tears. He hugs Shawn once he gets in the ring. Shawn says that he has one more announcement to make. He’s going to have a farewell tour of sorts. His last match will be at Backlash in three weeks, and he wants it to be a one-on-one match with his best friend, Triple H. Triple H accepts with another hug. Michaels then says that over the next three weeks he will have open contracts. Anybody who wants to face “The Showstopper” before he retires can sign and Michaels will accept.
Commercial Break.
We come back to see a closeup of the contract on the door of Shawn Michaels’ locker room. Suddenly a hand comes up and signs the dotted line. The crowd roars as the hand that signs it has a familiar big wristband on. The camera pans out as we see John Cena. Tonight it will be John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels! A WrestleMania 23 rematch!
Intercontinental Championship CM Punk (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
If anybody remembers, Punk told his good friend Kofi that he would love to defend his title against him in a friendly contest, when he was done with Burchill. This turned out to be a great, tightly contested match. Each man brought their A-game. Kofi hit his usual spot where he leaped on top of Punk to hit some punches in the corner. Punk fought back with some kicks and open hand slaps and eventually hit his trademark bulldog. After a few minutes though, he put away his friend with the GTS.
Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: CM Punk (8:11) ***
After the match, Punk raised Kofi’s hand but they were cut off by the theme music of John “Bradshaw” Layfield. He comes out and says that he failed in his goal of retiring Shawn Michaels last night. But he says that he’s not stupid enough to not have a backup plan. His backup plan is to sign CM Punk to a contract, the way he had Michaels’ signed. He said that with his finances backing up Punk’s ability, Punk can become the top star in the WWE. He’s been watching Punk over the past few weeks, his match against Michaels and all their tag team matches, and he realized that Punk is very talented. Punk grabs a microphone and tells JBL that he saw how much Michaels hated his time with JBL and he’s not going to fall into that trap. JBL smiles and said that eventually Punk will come over to his side.
Commercial Break.
We return and see a promo covering the last couple of weeks of The Technicians’ training and the video ends with Jamie Noble saying that they’re coming for John Morrison and The Miz.
Tag Team Match Cryme Tyme vs. The Technicians w/ Kelly Kelly
Charlie Haas and Noble came to the ring in matching attire and they showed no ring rust at all. They did what they said they were going to do and that’s begin to get back into contention for the World Tag Team Titles by beating Cryme Tyme. They showed off a few new double team moves, but ended it when Haas made JTG tap out to the Haas of Pain.
Winners: The Technicians (4:05) **¼
Commercial Break.
“Voices” begins to play as our new World Champion, Randy Orton comes down to the ring, with Ted Dibiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes following. Orton cuts a promo and brags about winning the World Title at WrestleMania, the biggest stage of them all. He then says that Ted Dibiase Jr. has been waiting to return to Legacy for a long time and last week Orton gave him a call and told him to be in Houston. He said that both Rhodes and Dibiase have both proven that they belong at the top and they will prove it again tonight when they defeat Rey Mysterio and Batista. He is cut off by the music of John Cena. Cena comes to the entrance and tells Orton that while it’s true that he is the new World Champion, it’s also true that without Rhodes and Dibiase, Cena would still be champ. He then says that he was planning on using his rematch clause tonight, but he decided that he wanted the first crack at Shawn Michaels on his farewell tour. He calls out Stephanie and Vince McMahon. They come out and stand next to Cena. Cena then asks them to grant him his rematch for the World Title at Backlash. Vince and Stephanie agree to it and Orton now has his first title defense booked.
Commercial Break.
Tag Team Match Batista & Rey Mysterio vs. Team Priceless
Dibiase showed a little ring rust but was still good nonetheless. He & Rhodes showed that they can compete with a lot of the top stars in the WWE as they took the former WWE Tag Team Champions to the limit. Mysterio was being dominated for a while until he made the hot tag to Batista, who cleaned house. He hit both of his opponents with spinebusters and then nailed the legal man, Rhodes, with a Batista Bomb. Suddenly though, Chris Jericho runs in with a chair in his hand, and he lays out Batista.
Winner by DQ: Batista & Rey Mysterio (10:09) ***
Dibiase pulled Rhodes out of the ring while Jericho continued his assault on Batista. Mysterio went to help and spring boarded off the ropes at Jericho, but was met with a steel chair shot to the face. Jericho then kept beating on Batista leg with several more chair shots. Officials came out to help and he laid them out with chairs as well. He ended up putting Batista in the Walls of Jericho as we went to commercial.
Commercial Break.
During the break, Jericho finally let go of the submission, but Batista looked to be in severe pain. In the back, Todd Grisham catches up with Jericho and asks what was up with that henious attack. Jericho says that he & Batista have been at each other’s throats for a long time. He said that last night at WrestleMania, he was too focused on taking out Batista, that he spent all of his energy on that and lost focus of the World Title. So tonight, he eliminated his distractions.
We then cut to Stephanie and Vince in their office with JBL. JBL shakes their hands and thanks them for making a match for next week. That match being CM Punk defending his Intercontinental Title against Paul Burchill in a WrestleMania rematch.
Non-Title Divas Match Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix w/ Santino Marella vs. Mickie James
As usual these turned in a very good match, although Mickie seems to be lost in the shuffle of Divas as of late. Mickie hit a hurricanrana out of the corner and got a near fall. She then hit a suplex and went to the top. Santino grabbed at her ankle and that allowed Beth to get up and go to the top with her. She hit her variation of a fisherman suplex off the second rope for the win.
Winner: Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix (4:16) **
Commercial Break.
Backstage, we see CM Punk go into the McMahon’s office. He says that he doesn’t mind defending his belt next week because he does love the competition, but he wants to know why JBL asked for the match to be made. Stephanie says that JBL wanted the match made because it’s in his best interest to have Punk defend his title. Punk has a confused look on his face. Vince says that he doesn’t know why exactly it matters to JBL, but he & Stephanie agreed to the match because they enjoyed their match at WrestleMania and felt that a rematch would also be in Raw’s best interest.
Singles Match John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels
Randy Orton was on commentary during the match. Cena and Michaels shook hands before the match. They were supposed to wrestle back at the Royal Rumble, but Michaels sold his title shot to JBL. Anyway, this match was given good time, and despite not being as good as their one hour match on Raw two years ago, or their WrestleMania 23 match, it was still very good. Both men hit their key spots including Cena’s shoulder block and five knuckle shuffle and Michaels’ elbow drop off the top. The finish here came when Orton attempted to get involved as he tripped up Cena with the referee and Michaels down. He got in the ring and went to deliver the punt to Cena, but Michaels cut him off and hit him with Sweet Chin Music. Cena and Michaels begin to wrestle again until Cena drops him with the FU.
Winner: John Cena (15:43) ***¼
Cena celebrates his win as Michael Cole puts over how much momentum this gives Cena going into his World Title match at Backlash. Michaels gets up, hugs Cena and poses with him as Orton looks on, upset.

Mixed feelings on HBK retiring. It'll make good TV, but not sure about it being just at Backlash. Unless of course he comes back later in the year. But if it's for good, it should have been done at Wrestlemania. Punk-Kofi was a cool match, and I love the idea of JBL trying to recruit a replacement. Technicians winning is ok. Orton-Cena should be good. Good DQ so nobody gets hurt. Good win for Beth, tough to do good stuff with divas now. I feel like it hurt HBK a little bit that Cena won clean despite a distraction. The HBK stuff should make for interesting TV, just a little mixed on the idea.
