Raw 5/18/09 Preview
-Last night at Judgment Day, Kane retained his WWE Championship against John Cena in an awesome contest. With John Cena out of his way, who will be next to step up and face the Big Red Machine? Or will Cena find a way to get a rematch?
-Montel Vontavious Porter got the revenge he wanted against Triple H last night. Triple H took out MVP's girlfriend, Eve two weeks ago with a Pedigree onto a steel chair and by upsetting Triple H last night, he hurt The Game's chances at what he loves the most, the WWE Title. Already signed for tonight is MVP teaming with John Cena to take on Kane & John "Bradshaw" Layfield! Speaking of Bradshaw, will we see any sign of his new Cabinet?
-Also at Judgment Day, Legacy leader Ted Dibiase Jr. took a big step forward by winning his first ever singles title in his young career. He will be in action in the first round of this year's King of the Ring tournament when he goes one on one with ECW's Rey Mysterio! In another Raw vs. ECW King of the Ring match, Hurricane Helms will go up against the reigning King, William Regal!

Raw opens with a video package showing the brand’s highlights from last night’s Judgment Day Pay-Per-View. It starts with Ted Dibiase Jr. winning the Intercontinental Title, then moves on to MVP picking up the upset victory over Triple H, finally finishing with Kane retaining the WWE Title with a win against John Cena.
Before the announce team can even welcome this great crowd and the fans at home to tonight’s show, John Cena’s theme music hits as he comes to the ring.
John Cena: I wanted to be able to come out here tonight and scream that the champ is here. But I can’t. Because last night at Judgment Day, I lost my shot at the WWE Title. This wasn’t like Backlash when Randy Orton basically got himself disqualified. Kane pinned me in the middle of the ring and I’m not ashamed to admit that he was the better man last night. But one night doesn’t make you a champion! So Kane, I’m challenging you to a rematch right here tonight!
He doesn’t get Kane, but instead he gets Stephanie and Vince McMahon.
Vince McMahon: First of all John, you don’t make the matches here on Raw, we do. So you can’t just come out here and demand title shots. But I get what you’re saying. And you and Kane did put on one hell of a match last night. So it's in the Raw brand’s best interest that I do grant you a rematch John. Not tonight though.
Stephanie McMahon: In three the WWE will present the returning King of The Ring Pay-Per-View. On that night John, you will get your rematch. But since we here at Raw don’t want to keep giving fans the exact same thing every pay-per-view, we’re going to add a stipulation to this match. You see, Paul Bearer had a feeling that you would ask for a rematch so he left us a letter stating that Kane wanted a special stipulation in case you did get your rematch. If you remember, back at King of the Ring 1998, Kane won his first WWE Title. The match he won it in was a First Blood match! And that’s exactly the match type you two will go at it in no June 7th.
Cena didn’t look too happy about the announcement but we all know that he won’t back down from any fight.
Commercial Break.
In the back we see new Intercontinental Champion Ted Dibiase Jr. complaining to the McMahons about having to defend his Title just twenty-four hours after winning it, especially in a King of the Ring First Round match. After they tell him that they’re not going to change his match, he has an idea. He says that if he has to defend his belt, he’d appreciate it if Cody Rhodes & Joe Henning could get a World Tag Team Title shot. Vince says that tonight Cody Rhodes will take on Charlie Haas. If Rhodes can get the win then he’ll earn a future title shot for himself and Henning. Dibiase thanks them as he leaves.
A graphic is shown of tonight’s two First Round King of the Ring matches which are Ted Dibiase Jr. taking on Rey Mysterio, now with the Intercontinental Title on the line, and Hurricane Helms will take on reigning King of the Ring, William Regal.
King of the Ring First Round Hurricane Helms vs. William Regal w/ Layla
Like the majority of this tournament, this match featured mid-carders. Helms and Regal didn’t get much time to showcase their abilities, but they still managed to put on a decent match. After some solid back and forth action, Regal put away Helms with the Regal Stretch and is one step closer in defending his King of the Ring crown.
Winner: William Regal (5:13) **¼
Commercial Break.
In the back, we see William Regal and Layla go up to Paul and Katie Lea Burchill. We can’t hear what they’re saying but they leave and continue talking.
Divas Match Candice Michelle vs. Victoria
Candice hasn’t been seen on TV in months and she showed why. She was rather sloppy in the ring and is pretty much not important at all to the WWE. Anyway, she got in a small amount of offense but Victoria pretty much dominated and put her away with the Widow’s Peak.
Winner: Victoria (3:59) *½
After the match, Victoria called out the Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix. Beth came to the stage. Victoria said that she wanted a rematch next week. Beth tells her that she already had her shot. Victoria said that if she had just one more shot she knows that she can beat her. Beth still says no. Victoria’s last attempt was to say that if she lost her title shot next week, she’ll retire on the spot. Beth thought about that and agreed saying that retiring a veteran like Victoria will be another accomplishment to add to her list of many.
Commercial Break.
We come back to see Cody Rhodes and Joe Henning talking in the back when Ted Dibiase Jr. enters the room. They thank him for managing to get them a chance at the World Tag Team Titles. Dibiase said you’re welcome and that he hopes that Legacy can take over Raw. He wants to see Henning & Rhodes win the Tag Team Titles and since he’s the only one of them in the King of the Ring tournament, he wants to win that tournament and they can really rule this show.
Triple H’s theme music hits as he makes his way to the ring, not looking pleased at all.
Triple H: Last night was a travesty. Somehow, I lost to MVP. My job was to prove that I am the best draft pick that Raw picked up. And yet somehow I lost to MVP. A guy that has never won a World Title and will never be better than I am. I know what it was though. You see, last night was MVP’s lucky night. He was fighting for revenge after what I did to his girlfriend and I guess that was kind of heroic so I guess I’ll just chalk up last night’s loss to sheer dumb luck. But my sights are still set on one thing…the WWE Championship!
He is cut off by a familiar theme. The theme of somebody that we haven’t seen since the night after WrestleMania. It’s Batista!!
Batista: Man it feels good to be back. Listen Triple H; while I was gone, I was watching Raw. For one thing, I don’t like how you’re talking about how Raw is your show and that you’re coming for the WWE Title. You see, The Animal is back, and the hunt is on for the WWE Title. And if you want a shot at that title you’ll have to go through me. Somebody that you’ve never, ever, beaten!
Triple H doesn’t like that and attacks Batista. The two of them brawl until Batista sends him over the top rope and to the outside. Batista posed in the ring as we left to commercial.
Commercial Break.
Singles Match World Tag Team Champion Charlie Haas w/ Jamie Noble & Kelly Kelly vs. Cody Rhodes w/ Joe Henning
These two turned in a very good match here as both men were on their game. Haas worked over Rhodes’ legs throughout the match, dropping elbows on it, stomping on it and even locking in a figure four. Rhodes worked on his back hitting a back breaker and a superplex. In the end though, Haas ran off the ropes and Henning tripped him up. Noble ran around the ring and began to brawl with Henning. Haas watched this and Rhodes caught him from behind with the Cross Rhodes for the win.
Winner: Cody Rhodes (6:23) **½
Rhodes joins Henning by beating on Noble and they leave him lying after throwing him into the steel steps.
In the back we see Ted Dibiase Jr. smiling as he watches on the monitor. Then it cuts to Rey Mysterio walking to the arena and his King of the Ring First Round match is next!
Commercial Break.
John Cena enters MVP’s locker room and congratulates him on his big victory over Triple H last night. MVP thanks him and they hype each other up for tonight’s main event.
King of the Ring First Round Intercontinental Championship Ted Dibiase Jr. (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
Dibiase once again proved that he’s pretty damn good as he hung tough with the experienced Mysterio. Dibiase really targeted Mysterio’s legs as he did his best to keep him grounded and make sure he doesn’t get to use his high flying ability. After a while of back and forth action, he locked in the Million Dollar Dream. Mysterio began to fade but he managed to counter it the way Bret Hart did back at Survivor Series ’96, except that this time, Dibiase Jr. kicked out. Mysterio then had the advantage as he hit two hurricanrana variations and then hit the 619. He went for the West Coast Pop, but Dibiase dropped to his knees and low blowed Rey as he came down, causing the referee to call for the DQ.
Winner by DQ: Rey Mysterio (9:05) ***
Mysterio advances in the King of the Ring tournament, but Dibiase made sure to protect his Championship at all costs.
Commercial Break.
Tag Team Match WWE Champion Kane & John “Bradshaw” Layfield w/ Paul Bearer vs. Montel Vontavious Porter & John Cena
As one would expect, this was your basic tag team match. After a hot start by the faces, JBL and Kane began to slow down the match and dominate MVP for a while. After a long while of this, with about two or three failed hot tags, he finally made the tag to Cena who cleaned house. He hit Kane and JBL with everything he’s got. He got Kane up on his shoulders and nailed an FU. Then he got the legal man, JBL up for an FU, but suddenly he was attacked from behind.
Winners by DQ: John Cena & MVP (10:06) **¾
Cena was attacked by Cryme Tyme. But they weren’t dressed like Cryme Tyme; they were dressed in very casual business like attire. They both had no shirts and slacks on. They picked up Cena and hit him with their G9 finisher. MVP then ran and hit both of them, but out came Ryan Braddock, who ran in and nailed MVP. He threw him off the ropes and hit a stiff lariat. JBL got up and grabbed a microphone.
JBL: What you people are looking at, is the new and improved Cabinet. Jayson Paul and Shad Gaspard here have been very popular with you people, but they haven’t been successful. With me leading them, I guarantee that you’re looking at future World Tag Team Champions. Then we have Ryan Braddock here. He’s been quietly winning matches on Velocity and improving in the ring each time I see him. Plus, he tends to use a rather nice lariat, very reminiscent of my Clothesline from Hell. These three men have all the tools, and with them by my side, JBL will once again rise to the WWE Championship!
As they posed in the ring, we see that Kane has laid out Cena with a steel chair and he’s busted wide open. Is that the image we will see at King of the Ring in their First Blood match?

Good idea for a Cena/Kane first blood match, switches things up. Like talking about the past too. Regal over Helms is fine, hopefully Regal doesn't go anywhere in the tourney though. Hope Beth wins actually. Batista/HHH would be really huge, I feel like it should have been saved for Summerslam though. Glad Cody won, made sense. Good idea to have the IC/qualifying match go down like that. Finish to the match was fine. However, the promo by JBL wouldn't really be suited for ending the show. Good show overall though.

First Blood is cool, I like bringing up the past. Happy Ted is getting plenty of air time. Very pleased Regal won. Good choice with Victoria winning, hope she gets the title eventually. I like the Trips/Batista segment. I hope Joe and Cody get the titles. Good way to end the IC title match. It lets Rey go on to the KOTR, and hopefully lose, and gives Ted time to do bigger and better things. I can’t say I love having two back to back DQ’s, but it gets the job done. I am torn on if I like Cryme Tyme as part of The Cabinet, it was unexpected though. Interesting to see Ryan Braddock as well. Love Kane busting Cena open. Solid show.

Judgment Day was good. Glad DiBiase is IC Champion. Burke, Kane, & Orton retaining their titles was the right decision although I hope Cena wins the title soon. Look forward to an MVP push after defeating Triple H. Maybe he can win King of the Ring.
Onto Raw...
First Blood match is good. Despite me loving Kane being champion I think Cena should win it, plus I think whoever wins King of the Ring it would be good to see them feud with Cena rather than Kane.
Good win for Regal and interesting stuff with Burchill. Hope they team up.
I can see Victoria winning the Womens Title soon which would be a good choice. It would probably be her final run before she retires though.
Batista/Triple H feud should be interesting.
Glad Rhodes won and I hope he and Hennig can win the Tag Titles.
Surprised DiBiase lost, I thought he would have a good run in this tournament however it made sense and at least DiBiase retained the title.
Good main event. Shocking ending with Cryme Tyme & Braddock joining JBL. Look forward to this new Cabinet and I hope JBL steps aside to a manager role and maybe gets someone else to be the head wrestler of the group. Cena bleeding to end Raw was a good finish to make Kane strong.
Overall good show to set up the start of King of the Ring. Cant wait for the next show.

Loved Judgment Day. Glad TD got the title, he should be a great IC champ. The other champions retaining there titles are okay. The Cena/Kane feud is awesome, I'm loving this. Its fresh. Though I hope Cena beats Kane soon. MVP going over Triple H shocked me. Push maybe?
Raw was good. Liked Regal winning and the Burchill thing was interesting like Jason Star said. Though I would like Victoria to be Women's champ, I don't see her winning it soon. Batista/HHH feud could be a good feud. Rhodes winning is great, I hope he and Henning get pushed soon. DiBiase losing in the first round was a shock but I could see him defending his title at KOTR. Main event was great. I was also shocked that Cryme Tyme and Ryan Braddock joined JBL. Cryme Tyme as heels is new and interests me.
Keep up the great work man.

- First Blood match is a great stipulation. - Would’ve rather seen Helms pick up the win, but Regal winning is fine. - Figuring your going to retire Victoria. - Good segment with HHH/Batista, though I don’t like HHH trying to ignore the lost and go for the title. - Figured Rhodes would win. - DiBiase/Rey would be a good contest. Makes sense for Rey to advance by DQ. - I actually liked the gimmick change by Cryme Tyme. - A really fantastic way to end the show. - Good show, didn’t like the back to back DQ finishes, though.

RAW was good, honestly pumped that the King of the Ring will be back. Not sure on the whole Batista/Trips segment, but we'll see where it goes. Nice KOTR line up so far, hope Kane retains against Cena tbh. Nice to see Helms advance in the KOTR, nice tag match main event, hopefully, as i said before, Kane retains at the PPV.

Wow, good opening promo to kick off WWE RAW, following Judgment Day. Wow, Extreme Rules being replaced by King of the Ring is fantastic, I'm looking forward to that. First blood? Sounds like the sort of thing John Cena will overcome and make Kane bleed in to win the WWE Championship. William Regal beating Hurricane Helms is fine, I just wish you hadn't jobbed out Helms so quick. Eurgh, icky match between Victoria and Candice Michelle. Didn't really do anything for anybody. Triple H and Batista feuding is interesting, hope Triple H wins this one. Batista is awful. Decent contest between Charlie Haas and Cody Rhodes. Solid match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and to advance into the King of the Ring tournament. Haha, nice swerve, Rey Mysterio advancing, but by DQ. Good main event. Wow, The New Cabinet? That's awesome.

Tonight’s ECW kicks off with a video package showing The Brood defeat Tommy Dreamer, Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio at Judgment Day. After that it cuts to a short highlight reel of Mr. Kennedy’ match with Elijah Burke for the ECW Title, which Burke won to retain his Championship.
Matt Striker and Todd Grisham welcome everyone to another edition of ECW on Sci-Fi! They hype tonight’s tag team main event of ECW Champion Elijah Burke teaming with the leader of The Brood, Kevin Thorn to take on Tommy Dreamer and Mr. Kennedy! Plus, we will see the third first round match in the King of the Ring tournament! With that said, we are joined by ECW Champion, Elijah Burke.
Elijah Burke: I told you. I told you all. Last week I stood in the middle of this ring and said that I will walk into Judgment Day as the ECW Champion and I will walk out the same way. And I did just that. The supposed new addition to ECW who was supposed to take my Title and be your hero made a rookie mistake at Judgment Day and me, being the better wrestler, capitalized and made the most out of my opportunity.
He is cut off, like last week, by the music of Mr. Kennedy!
Mr. Kennedy: You’re right, Elijah. You’re totally right. You see, two nights ago I did make a rookie mistake. I thought I beat you because I hit you with the Green Bay Plunge and I know that once I hit that, you’re not getting up. It was my mistake that I didn’t move you away from the ropes and I promise that will never happen again. And I swear that it won’t happen at King of the Ring.
Elijah: What do you mean at the King of the Ring?
Kennedy: Oh, did I forget to mention that? I just came back from seeing Teddy Long. He agrees that I was oh so close to winning the ECW Title that he granted me a rematch at King of the Ring. I’m sure he also knows that I can beat you and he’s probably hoping that I will be the next ECW Champion. And that will come true. Your next ECW Champion will be MR. KENNEDY…..KENNEDY!
Elijah Burke was livid in the ring as he did not want to face Mr. Kennedy again.
Commercial Break.
King of the Ring First Round DJ Gabriel w/ Alicia Fox vs. John Morrison
Gabriel has actually been getting some pretty good reactions from the crowd ever since his recent face turn. Having the crowd behind him helped him to rally late in this match. Morrison dominated the early portions but Gabriel fought back after breaking out of a headlock. He began to hit some moves and mixed in some dancing with it. He went to the top for his diving uppercut but The Miz ran down and knocked him off the top while Morrison distracted the referee. Morrison then hit Gabriel with the Moonlight Drive to advance.
Winner: John Morrison (9:47) **½
After the match Miz high fived his former partner Morrison and they left up the ramp together.
In the back, we see Teddy Long talking with Gavin Spears. Spears is saying how much he wants a shot at Jack Swagger’s TV Title. Long tells him that he’s making sure that the TV Title is defended often and next week there will be a fatal four way match to determine the number one contender to the title. In it will be Spears himself, Hade Vansen, DJ Gabriel and The Miz!
Commercial Break.
Television Championship Jack Swagger (c) vs. Finlay w/ Hornswoggle
These two turned in a pretty good match, just as good as their previous encounter back in February in the TV Title tournament. This time, Swagger was the aggressor and really worked Finlay’s back. He even exposed the turnbuckle and threw Finlay into it. Finlay made a valiant comeback but it was to no avail and Swagger put him away with the gutwrench powerbomb.
Winner and Still Television Champion: Jack Swagger (9:25) **½
Swagger cut a post match promo talking about how he’s going to go down in history as the greatest Television Champion in history.
Commercial Break.
We return to see John Morrison and The Miz talking in the back. Morrison thanks Miz for his help before wishing each other the best of luck.
Next, we see Tony Atlas standing by with Ezekiel Jackson and Mark Henry. He says that you’re looking at the most dominant faction in sports entertainment and says that nobody will be able to stop Jackson & Henry on their way to the top.
Last, we see Matt Hardy and Tommy Dreamer talking about how they failed at Judgment Day against The Brood. Dreamer says that the war isn’t over until Dreamer has nothing left to give ECW and he still has a lot left.
Commercial Break.
Tag Team Match ECW Champion Elijah Burke & Kevin Thorn w/ Gangrel, Tyler Black & Hade Vansen vs. Tommy Dreamer & Mr. Kennedy
As usual, this tag match was just like pretty much every other one you see. The heels worked over Dreamer, beating on him for the majority of the match. Both Burke & Thorn, former partners in the New Breed, hit their signature spots and worked well as a team. Eventually, Dreamer made the tag and Kennedy rallied to dominate the final portions of this match. He hit the Mic Check onto Thorn but ran right into a big knockout punch from Burke. Kennedy fell into his corner and Dreamer tagged himself back in. That turned out to be a bad idea as he was hit with the Elijah Express once he came in and Elijah covered to end it.
Winners: ECW Champion Elijah Burke & Kevin Thorn (10:02) **¾
Burke waited for Kennedy to get up and he laid him out with the ECW Title. He turned to Thorn, who was staring a hole through him. Thorn then stared at the ECW Title as Burke slowly backed out of the ring.

Nice to see Morrison advance in the KOTR, sounded like a good match. Glad Swagger retained the title as well. Main Event sounded good, glad Burke got the pinfall victory over Dreamer and Kennedy wasnt the one to get pinned. Looking forward to KOTR. Good stuff bro.

- Kennedy/Burke rematch should be good. I just wished that Kennedy earned the second shot. - Considering I hate Gabriel, Morrison moving on works for me. - Good win for Swagger. I’m assuming Finlay may be on his way out.. - Burke pinning Dreamer was a good finish. Burke has the early momentum in the feud with Kennedy, though I believe Kennedy will win the strap at KOTR. - good ECW.

I wish Kennedy earned a rematch, but they should put on another solid performance. I am happy Morrison advanced, I hope he gets far in the tournament. Happy Swagger won. I like the role Finlay is in, it really established Swagger. I really licked the main event. I love Burke going over Dreamer. It makes Burke look good and doesn't make Ken look bad. Overall, a terrific show.

A little unsure about Kennedy just getting granted another title shot like that, but a rematch is cool. Understandable to have Morrison win. Good title defense for Swagger there. Burke pinning Dreamer was the right call for the main event. Good show for ECW standards.

I would have liked a stip to be added to Kennedy vs Burke but its fine hoping Kennedy goes over. Great that Morrison won as I really don't like Gabriel. I like how Swagger is defend every few episodes nice win there. I like the little segments in the middle, Henry and Zeke should be brutal as a tag team. Burke going over was good but after the first segment I would have rather had Kennedy somehow going over Burke after Thorn hitting him. Overall a great show. Feel Like Mysterio should have been used.

Good opening promo. Glad Kennedy is getting a rematch. Unfortunately I am a fan of both so I cant decide on who I support.
Good win for Morrison. Not sure on Miz being associated with Morrison anymore. I think Morrison is better off furthering his career by himself and Miz will only hold him back.
Glad Swagger is still TV Champion. I like that you aren't pushing him to the moon straight away to become a World Champion. Hopefully he starts a feud with whoever wins the No.1 Contender match next week.
Nice main event. Burke & Thorn winning worked well. I liked Thorn staring at the ECW Title and it would be good to see Kennedy/Burke turn into a multi-man feud after King of the Ring.
Overall good show. Some good feuds starting to develop for King of the Ring. Look forward to the next show.

Bear with me as I haven't really kept up with this and a lot of the stuff I don't really know what's going on. I'll start from Judgment and try my best and try to read through as much as I can. Judgment Day was a good show, well written up and booked overall. I liked Ted Jr. & MVP going over the most. I don't like PPV's ending with an interference job though the Jericho/Taker angle may have been better served for a Smackdown angle, but overall everything else was really good.
Raw - I liked the opening segment and bringing back of, KOTR, John Cena vs Kane in a first blood match is a great stipulation, I hope Cena goes over though or at least Kane doesn't have that long as a reign as I don't really like the guy. As I said love the KOTR return (hopefully someone like Morrison or Benjamin goes over as I could see them in the king gimmick) and it could elevate many stars up. The Triple H segment was good (although I feel it's a pretty recurring theme that first person promo's don't really come out all that well all the time and it's why I prefer recap style promo segments). Triple H/Batista should be a good secondary feud. Love the MVP push. The closing segment was great, I'm a fan of stables and JBL leading one with CRYME TYME & BRADDOCK is greatness.
ECW - Good show, I like both Elijah & Kennedy and glad their in the main program on there, hopefully both guys get a run at the title. Hopefully The Miz gets a push and maybe a meeting in the KOTR between him and Morrison would be good, I like Miz more than Morrison so here's hoping he gets a push. Hopefully Swagger drops the ECW TV Title soon but in a way that makes him strong as I want to see him pushed and think he's bigger than that. Another great way to end a show with Thorn staring at Burke, that should lead to some interesting stuff, I don't want to see Thorn win the ECW Title or anything but the brood stuff has made him legit.
Good stuff, keep it up.

Smackdown 5/22/09 Preview
-This past Sunday at Judgment Day, World Champion Randy Orton retained his Title against The Undertaker. There was some controversy though as Chris Jericho interfered and nailed Undertaker with a Codebreaker and multiple chair shots. The question on everyone's mind is, why did Jericho target The Undertaker? Will 'Taker get a fair rematch at Orton?
-Edge and Umaga fell short against Shane McMahon and Jeff Hardy at Judgment Day. After Umaga took himself out by missing a splash through a table, Shane and Jeff took out Edge and even gave him a taste of his own medicine by nailing him with a con-chair-to. What will go down between Edge & Shane in the next chapter of their war?
-Also as Judgment Day, Shelton Benjamin defeated CM Punk in a classic, show stealing match. On Smackdown, both men will be in action in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. "Mr. Money in the Bank" Shelton Benjamin will take on Raw's R-Truth, while ECW's Tyler Black will go one on one with "The Straight Edge Superstar" CM Punk! Can Benjamin continue his hot streak? Can Punk bounce back from the loss at Judgment Day?
Find out all this and more by tuning into MyNetwork TV, Friday night at 8 PM!!
