Think about what Cage has done for TNA. He came and added some instant credibility to the show. Not to take away from the guys TNA already had at the time, but Cage did what Jeff Hardy failed to do and that was to bring some main stream wrestling fans in to watch.
He instantly gave them a babyface that could work in the ring and work the mic. A sports entertainer that had wrestling ability, someone fans of wrestling and sports entertainment could support.
Cage had a fantastic feud with Abyss. From a sports entertainment aspect, this is one of the better storylines TNA did. Cage was the ultimate hero battling "the monster" Abyss. Abyss was actually being booked properly...go figure.
Cage went from ultimate #1 babyface to the ultimate #1 heel. Stabbing Rhino in the back and beginning that feud. Cage really helped Rhino get over. He also showed a different side of his wrestling ability with some of the hardcore matches he had with Rhino. I think he took Rhino to the next level, before Rhino got stuck in this awful feud with Storm.
Cage would continue his heel run going against Sting and then employing old friend Tyson Tomko. Cage/Tomko tandem is and was great to get over as a heel.
With Angle coming to TNA, Cage was able to help get him over with the TNA crowd. The Instant Classic adopted a great new gimmick and excelled in the comedic heel he had in the E.
And when the time was right, with Angle going babyface and AJ and Tomko moving towards Angle......Cage turns babyface. He aligns himself with Samoa JOe and Kevin Nash. The Nash/Cage dynamic is really good. Both men work the mic. really well and you can tell that Cage is helping Joe on the mic. On top of that, Cage helped diversify AJ and helped him get over as a comedic heel. Alot of what you see from AJ today, you can see in Cage from years past.
And eventhough Cage is not the #1 title contender to Kurt Angle and eventhough he takes a backseat to Samoa Joe right now......he continues to do his thing backstage and in front of the camera with a smile on his face. He has come a long way from Sully's Gym. From Sully's to north east indys to The Brood to E & C to the Unamericans to Tomko/Cage to the jump to TNA to NWA World Champion to The Instant Classic....Christian Cage has helped transcend TNA and in my opinion......is the true MVP of TNA.
If you don't know.........now you know.
