Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is calling for a rematch against Keith Jardine at UFC 96 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on March 7, according to a recent radio interview on The Tom Leykis Show.
Here’s a snip:
“There’s been a few names. We have Jardine listed. We want him in March.”
“The Dean of Mean” upset the “Iceman” at UFC 76: “Knockout” in September 2007. He beat the 38-year-old to the punch and strafed him with leg kicks en route to a unanimous decision win.
Liddell rebounded to defeat Wanderlei Silva in a thrilling three-round war at UFC 79: “Nemesis” in December 2007. However, he could not capitalize on the momentum and was most recently on the wrong end of a vicious knockout at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” courtesy of Rashad Evans.
His rumored fourth match up with Randy Couture appears to be all but dead. And another speculative showdown against UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva also appears to have been sunk.
If he gets his wish to rematch Jardine it would be a great opportunity to avenge a loss and get back on track in 2009 before putting a ribbon on his illustrious career.
Jardine most recently locked horns with Brandon Vera at UFC 89: “Leben vs. Bisping” on October 18, winning an underwhelming unanimous decision. He rebounded from a crushing knockout loss to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84: “Ill Will” back in May.
The “Dean of Mean” also boasts recent wins over Liddell and Forrest Griffin.
At this point a rematch with Liddell could be dangerous one for his career — Liddell has lost three of his last four fights and he’s no longer the same fighter who dominated the division for two years up until 2007.
Nonetheless, he still possesses the ability to win fights with just one punch.
Liddell is still a huge draw and a very popular fighter who is very capable of putting on a great show. It has the potential to be a big money match for both fighters, which could override any reservations from the Jardine camp.
UFC 96 is currently officially unannounced and does not have a main event. It will once again coincide with the Arnold EXPO — the largest health and fitness expo in the nation — for its annual convention.
This would be an interesting match but if Chuck loses again he will prolly never be in the title hunt again.

This is a MUST WIN for Chuck. Dropping 4 out of his last 5 is not an option. If he wins, that's great and he can be back in the hunt, but if Jardine wins, I think Chuck should really consider retirement. He says he will detremine that in the gym, but I don't care how you feel in the gym, if you can't get it done in the cage then its all over.
That's really hard for me to say because he's one of my favorite fighters of all time, and just a couple years ago was considered to be one of the best, if not the best 205 pounder in the world. Now he's on the recieving end of crushing knockouts and might be forced to retire.
But he says he's changing his style a little bit here: Liddell recently has spent time with American Top Team in Florida to help improve his skills.
“My next fight… I don’t know, but I will come out and use all of my skills,” Liddell began to tell Leykis. “Hopefully from here on out this style will be effective.”
This fight should really answer some questions about Liddell and his future.

I want to see this fight just as bad as Chuck wants to fight it.
I think the Jardine loss is really a fight that Chuck could have one had he come in with the right gameplan. I'm ecstatic to hear that Chuck is going to utilize all of his skills. Just imagine, Chuck backs Keith against the cage...
...Looping right hand... ....TAKEDOWN?!?!?
Chuck Liddell + ground and pound could be something that no one is ready for.

I don't understand how people can still cheer the Eyesman on after dropping 3 of his last 4 fights. People still consider him to be a top LHW but yet Tito Ortiz is garbage to losing to a guy who has beat BJ Penn(a fat BJ Penn, but BJ Penn nonetheless), Rich Franklin, Sokodjou, and Stephan Bonnar?
anyways I don't think this is a smart fight for Jardine. It seems like he gets the short end of the stick no matter who he beats. The guy has beat Liddell, Griffin, and Vera...that doesn't warrant a title shot? Or at least getting in the title picture? Fighting Liddell will prove nothing. If Jardine wins than he just beat an aging Chuck...if Chuck wins I can already hear Goldberg announcing to the world in overdramatic fashion "THEEEEEE IICCCCCCEMAN IS BAAAAAACK!!!". It sucks because it truly shows the favoritism on the UFC's part for continuing to push Liddell no matter how much the guy loses but yet CroCop loses 2 times and is dropped from the UFC...
B.S.
I was truly hoping Liddell would go up to HW as those are fights I would want to see him in.

IMO he should be in line for a title shot. I think he should deffinatly get his shot in 09. Especially if he beats Liddell again. I also think its BS how Tito is considered garbage. Chuc is in as much of a slump as Tito. I am a huge fan of both Tito and Chuck Liddell. I hope Chuck can get back on the right track towards another title reign before he retires. we will see I guess..

I don't see how you're going to give Jardine a title shot. The guys lost 2 of his last 4 fights, one of which was Houston Alexander. The guy got destroyed by Wandy, and rebounded with a split win over Vera (which could have gone either way)...
Too many people are ahead of Jardine right now (Rampage, Wandy, Machida, Evans, Silva)
Then theres your Franklins, Shoguns, etc who are better fighters.
Then again, I do hope Jardine ends Chuck quickly. I'm not a Liddell fan at all, and I'd love to see Dana's puppet retire.

I would give Wandy and Rampage a shot ahead of Jardine im just saying I think his name belongs in that bracket of guys who are also in line. I deffinatly dont think he should be the next one. I hope Rampage beats Wandy and gets the next shot. But Evans has his shot right now. I dont think Anderson Silva wants to go for the 205 belt and I actually think that Lyoto vs. Jardine is a match that should happen. It would be a good figt. Cuck vs. Jardine or Chuck vs Machida are two fights I would like to see. But All I really meant by it is that I think Jardine belongs in that same line of guys who are deserving of a title shot. I would love for Vera to get on the right track and get some Ws and be in line but I dont see it happening he does not look the same anymore..

I am still convering into a hardcore fan so I dont know every fighter there is to know of today..

This guy is a legend (love him or hate him, he played a huge role in getting UFC to where it is today) and had one of the longest runs as LHW champion in UFC history. I guess I can't cheer Wanderlei Silva on anymore because he lost 3 fights in a row too.

I was a little quick to jump the gun with the "I don't understand why people cheer him on" comment...but it was said in jest...partly.
I just can't understand the logic behind this fight if it does happen. From Liddells standpoint it makes all kinds of sense...but Jardine has absolutely nothing to gain. Even you as a huge Liddell mark should know that.
I don't want Chuck to retire though..I said I want him to fight at HW and I also said he would do really well at HW, but he can't hang with the guys at 205.

I but yet CroCop loses 2 times and is dropped from the UFC... B.S. Cro Cop wanted out. UFC didn't cut him. And Jardine will gain something. Money. His first fight with Chuck he got paid peanuts. This time he will hopefully get a good payday.

This time he will hopefully get a good payday. Yeah, well, hope in one hand and crap in the other and see what gets filled first. What I was trying to say is, hope isn't much to go on. It isn't a guarantee that Jardine will win again and if he doesn't, then in the end, he'll be worse off than Chuck is at this point. In the rankings I mean. Even if Jardine does beat Chuck again, I could see Chuck making more money than him again, which is highway robbery. I mean, if you lose a ing fight, you should NEVER make more money than the guy that beat you. That just does not make any sense to me at all, regardless how big of a star you are. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Chuck made more money than Rashad after he took a ing 10 minute nap inside the Octagon after their fight. I'm sure he did. He can take that money and shove it. I hope Jardine kicks his ass and beats him again.

Which is wrong. The guy is just a stepping stone at this point. He wasn't supposed to beat Griffin, Liddell, or Vera and he did..
