Despite earlier reports that indicated otherwise, it appears that UFC 95, which is scheduled to take place from The O2 Arena in London, England, on February 21, will air for free on Spike TV in the United States via tape delay.
The promotion recently listed the long-rumored event on its official Web site along with the good news.
European-based pay-per-view (PPV) events historically don’t perform as well as others, which could be the reason the promotion was able to hammer out a deal with its cable television provider. It could also be the fact that the UFC has already booked the first quarter of 2009 with several shows.
Have a look at the early jam-packed schedule for the New Year:
* UFC 93: “Franklin vs. Henderson” from The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, on January 17 * UFC 94: “St. Pierre vs. Penn 2” from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 31 * UFC Fight Night 17 from the University of Southern Florida (USF) Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla., on February 7 * UFC 95 from the O2 Arena in London, England, on February 21 * UFC 96 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on March 7 * UFC 97 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, on April 18
And those are just the ones we know about — more could be in the works … especially of the “Fight Night” variety.
UFC 95 currently features the highly anticipated lightweight debut of Diego Sanchez against Joe Stevenson in the main event of the evening. Middleweights Nate Marquardt and Wilson Gouveia are also expected to mix it up in an important division clash.
Stay tuned for more announcements … there’s another juicy 185-pound match up in the works. For more on the UFC 95 fight card and rumors click here.

Usually I don't argue with the UFC's matchmaking, because it always makes sense, but Sanchez vs. Stevenson? What the ? Is Joe Silva smoking weed with Eddie Bravo? Diego just bowed out of a fight (due to injury) that had a title shot ready for the winner. Joe Daddy has lost 2 of his last 3 fights, one of those being the fight he is most recently coming off of. So what is this fight for both guys? If Diego wins, he's still where he should. If Joe Daddy wins, he puts, what, his name back in the hat? Stupid fight.

They are both really good fighters and they should match up great. cant we just have fights now a days with two good fighters just for the sake that they are two good fighters?!?! does there really have to ALWAYS be a well if he wins this or if he loses this attitude towads it. Even if Joe Daddy wins I dont think that counts him back in the picture just ye. But if Diego wins this it proves that he belongs at 155 and lets hope he does. I cant wait for this fight. It should be great!

Well if that is the main event that is fine with me, because it is free. Also, chances are we will be able to see more fights due to there not being a title on the line in any of the fights.

It should be great! What? That's kind of the point of matchmaking. You either: A. Make fights that you KNOW are going to draw HUGE (Tito/Shamrock) or other grudge matches. (lets face it, Diego vs Stevenson is not even CLOSE to that) B. Make fights that will propel the winner closer to a title shot. Most fighters fight about 3-4 times a year, some less than that. All fights have consequences. Whoever wins, climbs the ladder towards the title and gets a tougher opponent next time out (usually), the loser often has to climb back up, or figure out a new place to fight (lower weight class/new organization) In this case, if Stevenson loses, he REALLY may drop to 145. I don't think 3 losses in 4 fights in an absolutely stacked division bodes well for him. He got destroyed by Penn, destroyed by Florian, and if he loses to Diego, he's basically stuck in the Spencer Fisher category. A new LW gets a shot at you, if you beat him, you beat a "name"...but that "name" will never go anywhere because he can't compete with the Elite LW. I really don't see the point of the fight either, other than Diego has to prove himself against a guy that recently had a title shot. I can't stand Diego Sanchez (or Joe Stevenson) so I could care less who wins the fight myself. I can though, see why this event will be free. So far, the card is very Fight Night oriented.

Jesus do they think we are intellectually- disabled. Then they announce that Bisping is a coach for the next TUF show.

Good matches but bad PPV draws so I can see why they want it to be free.

I really didn't feel like paying to watch Joe Stevenson vs. Diego, I don't know, it just doesn't seem worth it........but now it's free, and wooo!!!
I like this match up, just because potentially I get to see either Stevenson redeem himself and rematch Kenflo after this, or Diego steamroll Stevenson, and then Florian/Diego could possibly get that TUF 1 finale rematch.
Providing everything falls into place.

Hey, a free UFC event is a free UFC event. It may not be the best fight card but I'll take seeing it for free.
