I'm in entertainment business classes, today we had agents guest speakers. One of which is from the agency TNA uses, I asked him what exactly he does for them.
"I personally took TNA on when Richard Scrushy from HealthSouth bailed on it due to a scandal involving money. I got a friend of mine, Dixie Carter, who is just a marketer, for TNA who helped them get their marketing they needed to get somewhere. When Scrushy bailed, I talked Dixie into getting her dad, who owns a big oil company in Texas, into buying TNA. Which gave Dixie a big position in TNA. I took it on mainly because I liked the product and trust me by the end of next year will have made $5mil. on their own."
Me: But I've read that TNA does poor on PPV ticket sales, like only sell out maybe half the arena, how do they actually make money?
"Well, I was hoping you wouldn't have that much info, but touche. You're right TNA does terrible on PPV ticket sales, I tell them not to set them as high as WWE, but Dixie insists and later buys comp tickets to give away. Which the arenas don't care, they get money. TNA loses around $400,000 per PPV. BUT this entire year will be based around their video game, which I've demoed and it's very fun, especially if you don't play games much. Seeing how you notice the ticket sales, we make that up with house shows, which is amazing, WWE could never do that. I'm sure you watch, since you seem to know the sales, the current product is nothing to what Jeff Jarrett has told me is being planned. Without giving much away, every thing on TV that really has no substance, like comedy characters, bad angles, and just bad characters, will be gone. Jeff knows they can't compete fully at WWE's level unless their product is flawless."
Me: "One last thing, is there a chance TNA will come to Montana, do something WWE doesn't?"
"By end of next year TNA will be in Montana, being a Montanan, I know the lack of products we get. TNA WILL be in Montana by the end of next year, probably due to weather in the summer. They have BIG plans for the west and finally leaving Orlando. Also if you're big on wrestling and it's the side of entertainment you want to get into, get ahold of me, Jeff owes me a lot for giving him Dixie."
It was pretty cool to hear that from someone who works with TNA consistently. I won't give out the guys, name or company he works for. Most of the info we get on the guys that speak to us is public, but I don't want a forum of TNA fans bombarding him with questions and having it come back to me in the end.
