So I traded in NBA Live 09 yesterday for NBA 2K9. Random things frustrated me in Live such as:
-Impossible to play defense -Shooting layups without facing the basket -Computer going for a jump shot at the buzzer when down three points -Bench scrubs being subbed into the game in clutch moments
So I bought NBA 2K9, and WOW is it better. I feel like such a moron for getting Live to begin with. But what I didn't know was that 2K is now the #1 rated (as always) and #1 best selling game. Was 2K8 the first year that it was? Glad to see that people are deciding to purchase 2K over Live, because it really is a far better game.

I was considering this game. Does anyone know if Seattle is in it or was it changed to OKC?

I was considering this game. Does anyone know if Seattle is in it or was it changed to OKC? In NBA Live, they are just the "Oklahoma City Oklahoma City" with no logo and just generic black/white outfits. In 2K, they are the Oklahoma City Thunder with jerseys, logo, etc.

NBA games haven't gotten love here lately.
So I got NBA 2K9 for Christmas and started playing it last week I believe and it is pretty amazing overall. There are plenty of things that make it not so enjoyable but overall I love it and I'm glad I went with what I know and that's that 2K sports knows how to make NBA games...well sports games period.
The presentation is amazing. The commentary is what really stands out to me. It isn't too repetitive and they always get into specifics with teams and characters and I absolutely love it. So if you don't play a certain team or player as often you'll always hear new stuff in that regard. What I also love is their enthusiasm after a huge fast break dunk and stuff like that. Fantastic job with that.
One flaw I must point out besides the players and the ball sometimes morphing during crossovers. There is a minor yet major glitch that occurs when you are clearly going for a rebound and the ref calls goaltending! The ball can be clearly on the side of the rim and coming down towards you but most of the time you get the whistle and I hate that because it occurs at least 3 times a game.
The only thing I have really played though is 5 on 5 online. I must say that their servers are shit. Like I mocked EA in the past but they seem flawless and perfect compared to 2K. But if you manage to get into an actual game it can be a lot of fun.
I believe my record is 10-15 now. Which has a lot to do with either lag when you try to shoot a jumper or people playing stupid basketball. Like I played on the Kings once and a guy was Brad Miller and went and missed four 3-pointers. I also hate that people always think they have to play like the stars they are. Like if you're Chris Paul people feel the need to take every shot in the world. Or if someone is Tim Duncan they'll go to the paint and try a hook with 4 players guarding him instead of passing the ball out to the open man. I really hate that.
Still like I said its a great game as a whole.

Yeah, I had the same problem, but with different games. I bought NBA Live 06 before NBA 2k6. It was an alright game. I then bought NBA 2k6 for like 5 bucks and loved it. NBA 2k9 menu is a little confusing for beginners. I did play NBA Live 09 and I would choose NBA 2k9 over any NBA game made from EA sports. Now I know, to buy 2K Basketball Sports games over EA basketbal sports games.

EA just came out with a patch for OKC, so you can get the updated arena, jerseys, players, etc..Took them long enough, jeez.

Is it even ing possible to make free throws in NBA 2K9? My ing god. It's difficult. I would recommend: A. Turn the option for real player free throw form off. That way the releases will all be similar so you can get into more of a rythm. B. Turn Real Player FT% on so if you have a good free throw shooter they may make it in anyway. C. Do Practice Mode free throws (I assume they still have it, they had it in earlier versions).

The NBA 2K ones actually make more sense though. They release it at the point in real life. But with NBA Live you have to release it like right around the mid-section. But yeah, they're still a huge pain, depending on who you are shooting them with.

I have absolutely no problem making free throws in 2k9. I mean, I occasionally miss some...but I definitely don't miss often.
