But is anyone baffled about Wrestlemania 8? I just don't get how it panned out. First of all, I think WWE should have done Hogan vs. Flair. That match would have been ridiculously huge at the time. And then they went with Hogan-Sid to end the show on a DQ. I just didn't get that.

I wonder this as well. Hogan-Flair was the biggest match in wrestling history at that point.
Some people have said it didn't happen because of disappointing house show box office, but I think the Hogan-Flair house show matches were unannounced ahead of time anyway.
The only thing I can think of is this:
Because Hogan was "retiring" he couldn't win the title. And the WWF didn't want a bad guy who was known from WCW to beat the WWF's biggest hero in the main event of WrestleMania. So they couldn't go with that match, and instead came up with Hogan-Sid, and Flair-Savage.
Now, once they'd decided on the two matches, I can see the logic in putting the Hogan match on last. Hogan's retirement and the Ultimate Warrior's return and the two of them celebrating together was a bigger moment than Savage's second title win.
Where I think the mistake was is that Hogan should've just beaten Sid by pinfall in the main event (then been attacked by Papa Shango, for Warrior to make the save). But at the time, I guess Sid was protected because they had big plans for him. Which went out of the window because he quit after the show anyway.
Going back in time, I think there's two ways you could do Hogan-Flair considering Hogan was retiring:
1) Hogan wins the title, Flair attacks him from behind, Warrior makes the save. Because Hogan's retiring, the title's vacated subject to a future tournament. We've also got the other WWF superhero Ultimate Warrior vs Flair as our top feud. There are a few problems with this: Firstly, the title had already been vacated only a couple of months earlier, and vacating it again would damage its prestige. Secondly, SummerSlam is a long way off - so do you have no champion for 5 months, or do you crown a new champion on TV, which wasn't done in those days?
2) Flair wins, the Flair guys attack Hogan after, and the returning WWF superhero Ultimate Warrior makes the save. That way, we've got Flair vs the OTHER biggest WWF name as a feud for the next few months.

They relied completely on the Warrior to save the show. He delivered, and then some. The moment itself created wayy more excitement then what Flair vs Hogan would have brought.

The original plans were for Hogan vs Flair, Savage vs Jake Roberts, and Sid vs Taker. But when Hogan decided to retire to pursue movies, changes were made for reasons pc83uk mentioned. Sid was turned heel, Taker turned face, and we got the card we saw at the event.
Also, Sid did not quit the company. He failed a drug test and was fired. I also heard a rumor that when Sid signed with the WWF, he was promised a main event match with Hogan at Mania. So that could have possibly contributed to the change in matches as well.

too late to cry over spilt milk... although look on the plus side, Flair & Hogan had a match on Raw back in 2003 so atleast they did square up in a WWF ring after all

Oh yeah, I forgot about that Hogan/Warrior part at the end. And yeah, 2003 was just a tad too late lol. Wrestlemania in their primes vs. Raw match in the middle of the show past their primes.

Well, to be fair, both were past their primes by 1992 as well. I've always heard Flair/Hogan didn't happen because of lackluster house show draws, which might not be the main reason but definitely contributed in some way. I'm glad we got Flair/Savage instead, to be honest with you, as the storyline with Liz was far more entertaining than anything Flair/Hogan could have done at the time. Besides, a true dream match between the two would have to be held in the mid-80s when both were, arguably, at their peak.

Lackluster house shows? no way. It's becuase Hogan was leaving as ppl said. Flair vs Macho man no where near as big as Hogan vs Flair though the match with Flair and MAcho was a classic and one of my favorites. Oh and btw Macho was suppose to lose the match but he bitched about losing at WM's before (Flair book)

There were many things that kept Flair vs Hogan from happening.....
-Hogan vs Flair house shows weren't drawing like they expected. Outside of matches at MSG people werent into it for live events. This is a report that has been confirmed many times.
-Upon signing with the WWE, Sid Justice was promised a main event spot at Wrestlemania vs Hulk Hogan. Sid Justice signing was before Ric Flair's so for obvious reasons they couldnt go back on their word to Sid nor could they have changed it before hand since Flair was still in the NWA at the time.
-Once the WWF realized they couldnt do Flair vs Hogan they realized they had 3 faces and 3 heels. With Sid promised a shot at Hogan they had to turn a heel face, as Undertaker was chosen and put in a match with Roberts. With Roberts vs Taker and Sid vs Hogan cemented it was process of elimination that led to Flair vs Savage. Many reports have stated that you could tell WWF was working "on the fly" as every Wrestlemania previous had a lengthy build up to the main event (world title match) until Wrestlemania 8.

I wouldn't be born for another 32 days when it happened but when i finally watched it last year GOD DAMN it seemed so long i keep having to stop it and do something else. And I never saw the end of Hogan/Sid all I knew was Shango comes out then Warrior comes out then sparks come from under the ring....great to know it ended on a dq.lol

He wasnt meant to kick out, but Papa Shango was late with his run in. Mania had a long aisle that year, and Shango was supposed to run in and break up the pin, causing the DQ. He was late, so Sid had to kick out to prolong the match, then Wippleman jumped up on the apron and it kinda became a cluster until Shahgo hit the ring.
