I was watching the Steiner/Booker segment on Mac's thread and heard Steiner say "We run TNA" to Cornette. It got me thinking how much the MEM resembles nWo... the nWo always said "We're taking over" but they never actually "took over." They believed they ran the show, and to an extent they did, but it was never official within a non-storyline context. What if this MEM/Frontline storyline ended with MEM challenging Jeff Jarrett's position in the company, and winning... becoming a sort of wrestling counsel within TNA? Over time it could become a neutral party that books matches, settles disputes, etc.
The MEM would demote Foley and Cornette to announcing replacing West and Tenay, because really how many different authority figures do we need? Jarrett would fight to become apart of this counsel for a while, though the MEM would repeatedly deny him and crush any chance of it happening. Eventually the MEM would shift into a sort of neutral position with selfish tendencies. They respect (even show slight bias for) the wrestlers that respect them, and have it out for those who don't... this however wouldn't define the face/heel boundary by any means. Angle, Booker, and Sting would still actively wrestle, though they wouldn't use their authority to their advantage because the MEM would adopt the fair and honorable, old school mentality.
This would...
Allow Nash and Steiner to be around without bringing match quality down.
Give Booker and Sting another role so they don't have to wrestle as often, making their matches more special.
Free up the main event scene for Kurt, AJ, Joe, Daniels, Jarrett, and midcarders who've been around forever and deserve a chance.
Thoughts?

i don't want MEM to resemble the NWO...i think they've done it the right way thus far, and as long as the whole group ends up jobbing their asses off to finish the angle/their careers, it'll all be good.

Dude, I really like this idea. I would watch this. Thanks! I like the idea its like taking nWo over the limit and doing what they never did Exactly. Sounds like a bit too much honestly. I think an owner, a majority shareholder, whatever label Cornette has, and an NWO-esque group vying for authority is a bit too much. This would be one governing body that dictates everything, and what better for it to consist of five respected veterans? In the beginning the MEM counsel and the wrestlers' individual reactions to it (ie Jarrett wanting in on it) would be a storyline in itself... an aftermath of the MEM/Frontline feud if you will. As time goes on it would slip into the background and become only a factor in feuds. Kurt, Book, and Sting could still participate in angles without too much involvement from the counsel because it would be a system of checks-and-balances. If Kurt gets drunk with power, the others bring him back down to earth since majority rules.

Nice idea Ripper. I tell you it would definitely make things a bit more interesting to see what the Mafia do what the NWO "could" have done. I'd watch it as well.

This is an interesting idea. I don't like it. Mainly because the way you describe this leaves it as a running angle. If they only respect those that respect them and kill the others it sounds like exactly what is going on now. The Mafia pretty much already does whatever they want. If it went your way AJ Styles, Joe, and other TNA guys would get completely buried and look weak. That would be a bad decision on all levels.

It wouldn't be a running angle, though. It would be analogous to when Bischoff was the general manager of RAW. He dictated what happened on the show, but typically stayed in the background of feuds. Another analogy is sort of like the greek gods in mythology. The greeks looked to the gods for direction/protection, and while the gods fulfilled this need they typically did what was beneficial for themselves and what they stood for. They punished anyone who went against what they stood for. Similar concept.
Also, like I said a wrestler's position with MEM wouldn't define their status as face or heel. You could have the face that rises against authority in an admirable way (Austin), the face who doesn't let politics get in the way of competition (CM Punk), the heel who doesn't respect anyone (Orton), and the heel who schemes his way into the good graces of authority (Jericho.)
Last thing, Styles and Joe aren't in the spotlight enough to be hurt by an MEM takeover. The main face players right now are Jarrett, Foley, Rhino, and 3D. Even if the good guys win they are too diluted in former WWE stars for it to have any lasting rub on an AJ or Joe. An MEM with the traits I described would allow these guys a free pass, depending on how they comply with the new authoritative structure. After the "aftermatch" normal feuds would resume and the MEM counsel would be a mere factor in storylines.
