I personally love Bret Hart and I think he's one of the best in-ring storytellers ever. I've noticed a lot of people here think he's overrated, but I'll always think he's one of the very best. He's a great technician and evenwhen he doesnt use every move under the sun his in-ring psychology is verygood and "real" seeming ... his in-ring logic and moves don't seem phony like some other wrestlers. Of course people here think he's overrated. There are very few fans on this board that knows good wrestling because of their ages. When I see people who say they didn't watch wrestling before 2001 and all that call Bret Hart overrated I don't take their opinion very seriously especially when they are fans of some of the crap you see today like Batista. Jesus Christ did you ever say a mouth full there. Absolute ing truth

Bret was amazing in many ways. He was part of some of the greatest PPV matches ever...part of some of the greatest storylines ever, and in his WWF days, did not disappoint.
The way wrestling is looked at today is alot different than what it was in 1991/92/93...etc. People think you have to pull of 256 moves in a match to be entertaining. Wrestling was, is and always will be about the story. Not many guys can tell a story in a match the way Bret did.
You ever notice how he used to attack peoples legs? Well that was because his finisher was the sharpshooter. Its a basic formula- weaken your opponents legs & back so when you slap on that submission hold they will have no choice but to tap out. If Bret went out and every match hit moonsaults, springboards, clotheslines, suplexes and fame-assers...then just slapped on the sharpshooter, what sense would that make?
EVERY wrestler in history has had "signature" moves. Yet people get pissed when someone does the "same moves over and over" Think of it this way...if everyone did the flying elbow, then when HBK did it...it wouldn't mean anything

How many of these moves can Cena Do? Mind you I am a huge Bret Hart fan, but I'd love to see Bret FU, even attempt to pick up the Great Khali. Like it's been said already, it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Beatles and Elivis. Why in the hell is this on? Who cares the guy hasn't wrestled in 10 yrs. I like Bret but the fact is he's repetitve. I have never fancied him. Everyone talks crapabout Hogan's ego. Bret's is ten times worse. He thinks it's benieth him to ref a match. Austin can do it but he can't. He walks out of a awards ceremony becuase a writer listed him low on canadains greatest athletes. He still complains about HBK all these years after? Bret. oh btw his book was the best wrestling book I've ever read

i think bret hart is one of the best wrestlers 'of his time' but like football/soccer tricks, flair etc get more intricate and diverse as time goes on. So im not sure Bret wud be considered all that interesting these days... in comparison to Y2J for instance And unlike Y2J Bret lacked alot of charisma... But he did change the face and view of wrestling in the 80s and 90s changing the style in which wrestlers now perform and train.

im a huge chris jericho superfan but i'll be honest bret hart is the greatest of all time. noone in wwe history has has better matches, ss 91 and ss92 were masterpeices. it annoys that people try to say michaels is a better performer noooooooooo michaels is flashier and prettier in the ring but bret is way more realistic and much more of a wrestler. as far as john cena goes lol, he doesent deserve to be mentioned anywhere near the hitman. cena is a peice of **** cartoon character. yeah the greatest thing about bret was, what he did in the ring you could see really happening if you were in a battle with someone.. If you show a non wrestling fan bret hart matches, they may think its REAL. i couldn't see that happening...but ill try it out next time im in a fight, try and roll someone up in a small package and see if the fight ends

LOL...
Bret Hart is boring? Jesus Christ...this board seriously has problems..
I mean there are things people disagree with but there are a couple of things that should be universally understood without debate...
Stone Cold was the B.M.F. to ever enter the ring..
Hulk Hogan made wrestling what it is today...
and Bret Hart is the BEST TECHNICAL WRESTLER EVER...f*** Kurt Angle...Benoit...or whoever else you want to mention..there has never been a wrestler like Bret.
seriously..some of you guys are hypocrites..you hate a guy like Cena because he is repetitive...you like Edge because "He is the best wrestler right now"...but Bret Hart is boring?
huh?
wait let me guess what someone is going to say to my reply..
"its called opinions...everyone is allowed to have one"..
that may be true in most cases..But some of the things being said about Bret Hart are just ridiculous and I seriously doubt the people who are even saying them are older than 14 years old..

My argument is not that Bret Hart is bad. I think he is a pretty good wrestler. I do not at all think he is the best ever as he proclaims. I'm pretty sure you don't know why he calls himself the best. He does because of 3 reasons: 1. He never missed a show. 2. He never injured an opponent (which is a coincidence because his career ended because of someone injuring him). 3. Never refused to lose a match, except for one which was understandable. Big deal. You think he is the only respectful guy in the business who shows up for work and cooperates with his bosses? No...he's not. That is a part of his job. He does not get the title of "best" for doing those three things. That is...if he actually DID do those things, which is debatable.

So true. It's funny the amount of people on this board that seem to hate on Bret and call him a cry baby and overrated and such. Yet the average wrestler you talk to will have nothing but praise for Bret Hart. Sure people may not have liked the way he handled some things but when it came time to put on a show he was the best. Jim Ross said it best when he said something along the lines of: "I wish we had ten of him now".

You got it there, it was his job and he had to do those things, but that he had doesn't mean he would like Hogan or Michaels who would refuse to lose matches or fake injuries.

Bret Hart if anything is UNDERRATED, he has had more 5 star matches thana anyone (HBK may be equal, but he has had a lot more time, if you don't count 2002 - now, Bret has had more great matches), any how anyone says Bret Hart has a small moveset need to get some eyes and a brain, here are all the moves Bret would usually do:
Bulldog Sharpshooter Forearm of the top rope German Suplex Snap Suplex Superplex Headlock Takedown Piledriver Figure Four (on post) Inverted Atomic Drop Leg Drop Backbreaker Russian Leg Sweep Suicide Dive and more

They're my two favorites because in my opinion they are the two best wrestlers of all time. I don't like them because of the drama between thetwo or who whines about who or who is right or wrong. They are two amazing wrestlers and my two favorites, period.

Like it's been said already, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Bret was also a lot stronger then people think, here is a thing on him working out past the age of 40....... Even though this was not a contest, the Hitman put me to shame. We started by doing flat bench and after warming up began our five-set regimen. Finishing off with 330 lb., I was only able to do two reps while Bret handled five without trouble. Then came dumbbell flies: Three sets of 10 reps and while I finished at 75-lb. dumbbells for six reps, Bret manhandled 100-lb. dumbbells for 10 repetitions. slam.canoe.ca/SlamWrestlingBretHart/99sep14_workout.htmlSo at age 41 or higher Bret was able to bench over 400 pounds im guessing and well doing 3 - 10 rep curles with 100 pound dumbbells with out any trouble speaks for its self.

True a lot of people do think he's overrated, but he is my second favorite ever in the business. He tells a great story in the ring and is a great technical wrestler. He can cut a promo, but he doesn't need to rely on a mic to get the crowd going. I don't agree with comparing him to Cena since they have different styles, but Cena is good as well, maybe I am biased cause Cena is my favorite in the industry besides Sting. I think he has put on really solid matches, and I have yet to see a bad Cena PPV match to be honest. Plus his matches with HBK on Raw have been great. Takes two to have a good match and he knows what he is doing as well. I think some people might think Bret is overrated because this forum is really huge on Shawn Michaels. The good thing is that Shawn can still go in the ring and really hasn't ever missed a beat. If Bret was still able to compete, he would most likely be the same way.

hart was, in my opinion, the best ever. each one of those finishes seemed like 'the same thing' to some, but were infact verified endings to rouse the crowd.
goddamn i miss that era in wrestling.
