WCW Saturday Night 1-1-1994 From: Atlanta, GA Tony Schiavone and Eric Bischoff welcome everyone to the first wrestling show of 1994. Tony promotes WCW as being the one company that will give you wrestling action three hundred and sixty five days a year. Bischoff puts over the WCW product saying that “this will be the biggest year in WCW history, I can just sense it.” Tony promotes the fact WCW has crowned a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion in Ric Flair who defeated Vader at StarrCade. Ric Flair will be here tonight. Bischoff chimes in and hypes up former WCW United States Champion, Dustin Rhodes being in action. Tony says speaking of former champions, Big Van Vader will compete tonight. Bischoff lastly mentions the main event when Rick Rude defends the WCW International Championship against the young Johnny B. Badd. Tony throws it over to Gary Michael Cappetta to start the show! Match #1: Marcus Bagwell/Too Cold Scorpio w/Teddy Long Vs D’Lo Brown/PJ WalkerBrown and Walker are new enhancement talent for WCW. Bagwell controls Walker early on with a few hip tosses and a dropkick. Walker does get in a few right hands but Bagwell takes Walker down with a swinging neck breaker. Scorpio ends the match by connecting with the 450 splash on Brown. Winners: Marcus Alexander Bagwell and Too Cold Scorpio via pin fall **Commercials Tony Schiavone welcomes in the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Ric Flair. Tony congratulates Flair on his title win at StarrCade. Tony asks Flair, how does it feel to be champion again. “Well, Tony I first have to say that Big Van Vader put me through a battle to win this championship belt back. Vader, you’re a skilled young man. As for being champion, it is a great feeling, just like all the time prior. WOOO”. Tony does bring up the fact that Vader has exercised his rematch clause and that WCW is preparing for a rematch at WCW Super Brawl IV. Flair says “That doesn’t bother me. When you are champion, you have to fight. Vader has the right to rematch and I will defend my belt. I’m looking forward to a great match.” Flair walks off as Tony puts over the champion before sending it over to Gary Cappetta again. Match #2: Dustin Rhodes Vs Terry Taylor Rhodes with several clotheslines early on and drops Taylor across the top rope. Taylor shoves Rhodes into the ropes blocking a running bulldog. Tony doesn’t congratulate Steve, which he notices. “Now Tony, Ric Flair comes out here and you say “great job, way to go” but when I come out here you simply ignore the fact that I am champion.” Tony tries to explain himself but Austin doesn’t care. Austin puts himself over as the greatest overall wrestler of all time. Better than Flair, better than Steamboat. He also points out that he isn’t even in his prime yet. “This is just the beginning of the Stunning Steve Austin era.” Tony tries to say something, but Brian Pillman returns and attacks his former tag team partner. Pillman is delivering several right hands before security comes over and breaks things up. Austin is pissed, but grabs his title and heads to the backstage area as Pillman is trying to break free. Commercials Match #3: Diamond Dallas Page Vs Ron Simmons Page is busy showing off his diamonds to the fans, even decides to shove off to Simmons who simply clotheslines Page down. He is going to go to the WCW committee and demand a match where there is no time limit. That way if Regal is going to retain his championship, he’ll earn it the right way. Commercials Match #4: Big Van Vader Vs Erik Watts Well, Watts didn’t stand a chance. Vader with several vicious blows in the corner. Vader with a running body splash and a scoop slam. Commercials We comeback from commercial with the WCW International Champion, Rick Rude. Rude starts off by saying “all you fat out of shape hicks here in this hell hole known as Atlanta, GA shut your mouth and watch me take my robe off and allow you witness what a body should look like.” Rude shows odd his incredible body as the few women in the arena make their opinion known. Match #5: © Rick Rude Vs Johnny B. Badd WCW International Championship As soon as the bell sounds, Badd goes to work on Rude with several right hands and takes Rude down with a running forearm smash. Badd gets up and walks right into the Rude Awakening. Rude goes for the cover and earns the three count. Winner and STILL WCW International Champion: Rick Rude via pin fall ***After the match, Rude is handed the title and makes sure to do his taunt even though he is hurting. Tony and Eric thank everyone for tuning in and promote WCW World Wide. End of show WCW World Wide 1-2-1994 From: Orlando, FL Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura welcome everyone WCW Worldwide! Tony quickly hypes up that fact that Steve Austin, Johnny B. Badd and Arn Anderson will all be in action. Ventura puts over Austin as being the best in WCW. He doesn’t appreciate a jealous former partner in Brian Pillman attacking Austin last evening. Tony disagrees as Pillman must have a valid reason, since Austin did ditch their tag team while Pillman was hurt. He is moving on to wanting a WCW Heavyweight Championship shot. He understands that Flair is busy, but there is a fellow who isn’t so busy. The man just so happens to be, Rick Rude. Sting issues a challenge to Rick Rude to put the title up and see who the better man is. Commercials Match #2: Johnny B. Badd Vs Terry Taylor Taylor controls Badd early on with several right hands to the midsection in the corner before taking Badd down with a vertical suplex. Taylor leaps off the middle turnbuckle connecting with a clothesline. Badd fights back with a few jabs followed by a mean left hook to knock Taylor silly. Badd takes Taylor down with a scoop slam and a double arm DDT. Badd goes to the top rope and leaps off connecting with a sunset flip pin for the win. Winner: Johnny B. Badd via pin fall *½ Tony Schiavone is with WCW Television Champion Lord Steven Regal and his manager, Sir William. Tony brings up the fact that Ricky Steamboat last night challenged Regal to a no time limit match for the WCW Television Championship. Regal tells Tony that Steamboat doesn’t deserve to get a rematch. He beat him at Fall Brawl for the championship, and Steamboat couldn’t beat him at StarrCade 1993. Regal knows and Steamboat knows that he can’t beat him. Thus, Regal declines the challenge. I don't have too much knowledge of this era. Opening match was fine, interesting to see D'Lo in there. Dustin Rhodes sucks but oh well. Wonder how you will end up using Austin in this diary. I was about to say you shouldn't job DDP like that, but I forgot this was an older diary lol. Big Van Vader big push please. You should tone down the size of that black WCW logo. Glad Austin won his match. B. Badd winning is good as well. Anderson winning is also fine. Sorry for the lackluster reply, but I don't have much knowledge like I said.

This is a good diary to start out with. Good Luck. Nice opening segment with Eric & Tony talking about WCW. Loving Flair is champion. Nice opening match. It seemed and sounded realistic. I am pretty sure you don't have to put the Alexandar in Marcus Bagwell. It was a decent match. It was a good opener. I am loving the Ric Flair promo. Nice little segment you got their. Awesome to see Dustin Rhodes get the win. Alright match. I honestly loved the Austin promo. It was defiantly realistic. Match #3 is alright. Glad you put Ron Simmons over. I think Vader should have beat somebody bigger then Erik. Vader main evented StarrCade. Main Event was awesome and had a lot of detail. Loved the ending. Glad you had Steamboat retain. Hopefully you build Austin as a really big main event. Please don't fire him. Nice opening match-up. Match #2 was alright. Sucks to see Johnny B. Badd main event WCW Saturday Night and then have him in the second match on WCW World Wide. Arn Anderson winning his match was great. I enjoyed it. Both shows were great. I enjoy this diary. Keep up the good work.

The shows you've put out are of a great standard so far. You're opening up some good feuds and the possible matches are some I look forward to. Flair/Vader is obvious, but I hope you keep the title on Flair, not because I prefer him but I think it'd be a bad decision to make so many title switches, espcially considering it's the top belt of the promotion. Again, with Rude/Sting, I hope Rude keeps the title. If there's a unification match in the future I hope you give Rude both belts. He more then deserves it. Pillman/Austin is great, especially if you bring the US belt into it. Hopefully we see Pillman get the big win, but I wouldn't mind seeing Austin continue his push. Great work so far. Keep it up.

Didn't watch WCW in '94 so this might be a little off for me. Guessing Saturday Night was the big WCW show? Interesting to see D'Lo Brown in WCW. Liked the opening tag match. I'm all for a huge Austin push. Flair/Vader again should be great. I'm guessing Boss is Big Bossman? Always loved Regal back in the late 90's of WCW, would love a nice push for Regal.

Looks like a good set-up for WCW Saturday Night, I really love Saturday evening shows, I'm a mark for them, which is strange. Looks to be a nice main event, should bring out the best in Johnny B. Badd even though he'll probably lose to WCW International Champion, Rick Rude. Marcus Alexander Bagwel and Too Cold Scorpio beating the jobbers, PJ Walker and D'Lo Brown is fine since it puts over Bagwell and Scorpio. Should be good at WCW Superbrawl IV with Ric Flair defending his newly won WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Big Van Vader. Boy, Vader was an animal in WCW until Hulk Hogan came along. Always preferred Terry Taylor really but I supose Dustin Rhodes winning is fine. Suprised it got two stars, since they're both pretty alike in terms of in-ring style. I am liking the former Hollywood Blondes, Brian Pillman and Steve Austin feuding. Ron Simmons beating Diamond Dallas Page is fine as Page wasn't an established midcarder yet. I believe this was just after he stopped managing the Fabulous Freebirds, right? Ron Simmons repush please. Hah, Erik Watts kicked ass...not here. Good Big Van Vader squash but didn't seem good obviously. Good solid main event.
Decent opening contest to WCW Worldwide, used to watch this over on Sky Sports a few years back. Steve Austin beating Brad Armstrong is predictable but Armstrong was like an undercard wrestler who had momentum, here. Johnny B. Badd beating Terry Taylor puts over the newer and better worker. Didn't seem good. Arn Anderson beating The Boss is fine, seemed like a good main event.

Sucks to see your other diary on hold for now. The Patriot = awesome. Seeing Double A is always cool as well. Not really sure on the background of The Boss. Glad Nasty Boys are the tag champs, hope they keep the belts for a while. Sting getting a title shot would be cool, could be a little too early for him to win the belt though. Steamboat-D'Lo is a pretty interesting match. Flair-Booker seems like a huge match now although it wasn't as much at the time. Interesting to have both Sting & Flair win their main event matches. Hope to see them collide sooner than later.

Ha, didn't know the Patriot was in WCW. Nice match there with Regal. Always loved Regal as TV champion, he use to always defend that belt. I hope you do the same. Hmm, interesting thing there with Arn. I don't think he should get a title shot, never seen him as a main event type wrestler. Good Main Event with Sting defeating Orndorff. Flair/Booker looked interesting, even though Booker was more like a under-card at this time.

I really enjoyed the Rude/Simmons segment. Hopefully this puts Simmons back ontop of the card. Still don't know who Boss is but nice win for Steve Austin, such a misused talent back in the old WCW. Main Event looked pretty big for this show. Glad Rude retained but also Faarooq was made to look strong as well. Loved the Austin/Pillman segment. very well written. I am ejoying this diary but I kinda miss your 2000 diary

Like you using Alex Wright. Austin winning is always a good thing, although I don't even know who The Boss is. Rude retaining that way made sense. Good wins on the second part for Cactus, Sting, and Vader. In the end I hope you can successfully move up Austin to face the top guys.

You've been dishing out the shows, Bob. 1994 is by no means an era I am really familiar with so the feedback isn't going to be all that long but I'm loving that Austin is doing well so far. Here's hoping he gets that main event push later in the year. Pillman/Austin is going well and I really enjoyed the Ron Simmons/Rick Rude segment.

Just trying to catch up with the shows here lol. I liked how Sting/Simmons started, could turn into a really good feud and i'm looking forward to their match. Pillman and Austin going at it will be good too. Liked Vader beating up Flair at the end of the Saturday Night. Be interesting to see who answers Arn's challenge. Good shows, keep it up man!
