Commentators: JR & Jerry “The King” Lawler (RAW), Michael Cole & Tazz (SmackDown!), And Joey Styles & Todd Grisham (ECW).
(the show opens with a video package highlighting all the matches here tonight, but the main focus is on the WWE Championship Match between the champion Rey Mysterio and the challenger Batista and the World Heavyweight Championship Match where Randy Orton will defend his championship against The Undertaker. A firework display shoots off as Rev Theory performs “Hell Yeah” as we kick off Night of Champions live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.)
Cole: Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to Night of Champions! Tonight every championship from RAW, ECW, and SmackDown! will be defended here tonight! It’s going to be a great show here tonight, wouldn’t you say so, Tazz?
Tazz: You got that right, Cole! I’m not only looking forward to SmackDown’s! matches, but the rest of the show too, and let’s send it over to my good friend Joey Styles with the ECW commentating team, Joey.
Styles: Thanks, Tazz and what a show we got for you guys tonight, ECW will make sure you get your money’s worth tonight with our 3 matches.
Grisham: Oh I can’t wait to see Chris Benoit defend his ECW Championship against Finlay. Let’s send it now to RAW’s commentating team, WWE Hall of Famers JR and Jerry “The King” Lawler.
JR: Thanks a bunch, Todd and let us welcome you all to Night of Champions! We got a heck of a show for all of you tonight.
King: Especially our mainevent, I wonder if Rey Mysterio will even stand a chance against the challenger, Batista.
JR: Oh I think the champion is gonna give Batista the fight of his life, but let’s get underway with the first match on the card, a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship.
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
SHELTON BENJAMIN (C) VS. KEN KENNEDY VS. CARLTIO[/u]
The match started with Carlito talking trash to both competitors in the ring until Shelton got tired of it and hit a kick to the side of the head to take our Carlito for a little. Then Shelton and Kennedy Locked Up and Shelton hit a Snap Suplex on Kennedy, but Kennedy got right back up and hit a Suplex of his own and went for the cover only to get a 2 count. Both men got back up after the cover and Shelton jumped up and hit a Head Scissors on Kennedy. Shelton noticed that Carlito rolled to the outside and started to get up so Shelton ran towards the ropes and jumped off Mr. Kennedy’s back and hit a Senton to the outside on Carlito (fans started to cheer). After a while Shelton and Carlito got up and Shelton dragged Carlito to the ring steps and went to smash Carlito’s face off them, but Carlito elbowed Shelton in the gut and hit a DDT on the outside. Carlito then rolled back into the ring to work on the down Ken Kennedy.
Carlito started to stomp on the Greenbay native as soon as he got into the ring. Carlito then got Kennedy to his feet to work on him some more, but Kennedy started to chop Carlito and then threw him off the ropes. Kennedy went for a Big Back Body Drop, but Carlito kicked him in the chest. Carlito then bounced off the ropes again only to get knocked down with a Closeline. Kennedy then waited for Carlito to get to his feet and then nailed a Running Knee Smash then went behind Carlito and hit a Back Suplex. Kennedy went for the cover only to get a 2 count. Kennedy then hooked in a Single Leg Boston Crab on Carlito. Soon after locking it on, Benjamin came in and did a submission move of his own as he put on an Arm Bar on Carlito (fans start to chant *Tap*). Benjamin then let’s go and hits Kennedy in the back of the head with a kick. Benjamin then went over to Kennedy and hit a Belly-to-Belly Suplex and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count.
Benjamin went to the top rope looking to hit something on Kennedy, but Carlito finally got to his feet so Shelton hit a Cross Body on Carlito and went for the cover, Shelton got a 2 count because Carlito flipped him over for a cover pulling the tights and only got a 2 count as well. Both men got up and the champion went for a kick to the mid section but Carlito caught him and tried to reverse it, but Shelton came right back around and hit the Dragon Whip to take down Carlito. Shelton then turned to the crowd and began to taunt, but when he turned around, he got taken down with a Dropkick from Kennedy. Kennedy went to pick up Shelton, but Carlito came over and hit the Back Stabber on Kennedy and went for the cover but only got a 2 count because Benjamin broke up the pin. Carlito turned around and got nailed with the T-Bone Suplex, but Shelton didn’t go for the cover. He noticed that Kennedy was getting to his feet. Shelton then hit the Pay Dirt on Kennedy, but before he could make it to the cover, Carlito grabbed Shelton and spit apple in his face and as Shelton was trying to recover from it, Carlito went over to Kennedy and pinned him to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
WINNER AND NEW INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION: CARLTIO[/u]
King: NEW CHAMPION, NEW CHAMPION! I can’t believe it JR!
JR: What a cheap way to get the victory, after a great match, I’m disappointed with that ending. After Kennedy qualifies to be in the match, he ends up getting pinned by his former tag team partner, Ladies and Gentlemen, your new Intercontinental Champion, Carlito.
We head backstage to see the Spirit Squad getting ready for their WWE Tag Team Championship match next as SmackDown! General Manager Vince McMahon walks in.
McMahon: Good evening boys, I just wanted to wish you…
Kenny: Listen, Mr. McMahon, we don’t need your wishes or anything, as long as the 5 of us go out there, there is no way we’re going to lose.
McMahon: Oh, I wasn’t wishing you good luck on your match, I was wishing you good luck on picking the two men who will represent you tonight in the match because this was booked as a two on two match and it will be just that. Oh, and if anyone interferes in the match, then you will be disqualified. Choose quickly, because your match is next!
WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
BOBBY LASHLEY & MONTY BROWN (C) VS. SPIRIT SQUAD (KENNY & JOHNNY)[/u]
The two men to start the match are Lashley and Johnny but before they got under way Johnny was fighting with Kenny to not start. Johnny then turned around and got hit with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex that sent Johnny across the ring. Lashley then took Johnny to the corner and did some Shoulder Thrusts. Johnny walked out of the corner only to get taken out with a stiff Closeline. Then Lashley picked Johnny up and went for a Suplex but he stalled and let Johnny dangle in the air (the crowd started to cheer). After Lashley walked around the ring with Johnny still in the air, he flipped off Kenny and nailed the Suplex. Lashley then got Johnny in a Head Lock and took him over to his corner to tag in his partner, Monty Brown. Lashley Suplexed Johnny onto Brown’s shoulders so Brown could Powerbomb him.
Brown took Johnny to a corner and started hitting him with fists and elbows and then went to throw him to the opposite corner but Johnny reversed it and sent Brown into the corner. Johnny went running at Brown, but Brown caught him and hit a Running Powerslam. Brown then went over to Kenny and signaled that the match was over. Monty then picked up Johnny and hit the Alabama Slam and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count because Brown got up and tagged in Lashley to do more damage. Brown then ran over and hit the Pounce on Kenny to knock him off the apron. Lashley then went to Johnny and hit the Dominator for the victory.
WINNERS AND STILL WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: BOBBY LASHLEY & MONTY BROWN[/u]
Cole: Well, that was impressive. It was just a highlight reel of Brown and Lashley.
Tazz: The Spirit Squad never stood a chance in the ring with these two guys, Cole, Brown and Lashley could go for the World Heavyweight Championship, they can destroy anyone that comes in their way.
Cole: You may be right about that but let’s send it back with Josh Matthews who is with the United States Champion, Maven.
Matthews: Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, my guest at this time please welcome, the United States Champion, Maven (fans cheer). Maven, this past week on SmackDown!, you had a tag team match with Jericho against JBL and your opponent tonight, Eddie Guerrero, let’s take a look (it shows Eddie pinning Maven at the end of the match). Will this happen again tonight? And do you know anything about Y2J’s conditions?
Maven: I’m sorry to inform you that no, I do not have an update on Chris, I haven’t heard from him since Friday so we’ll just have to wait and see I guess. To answer your other question, no, there is no way that Eddie will beat me here tonight in Dallas, TX for my United Sates Championship! Eddie, I hope you’re watching me right now. Look into my eyes, Eddie. I do not take anything more serious than this championship, and I will never let it go, not even over my dead body!
Styles: Some strong words from the United States Champion Maven, huh Todd?
Grisham: Those were definitely some strong words from Maven, but this next match has some strong words involved in it because coming up next is the ECW TV Championship Match between former champion Rob Van Dam and new ECW TV Champion Muhammad Hassan (they show a video package of the past two weeks of ECW showing the growing feud between Hassan and RVD).
ECW TV CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH (EXTREME RULES MATCH)
MUHAMMAD HASSAN (C) W/ DAVARI VS. ROB VAN DAM[/u]
While Hassan and Davari stood in the ring waiting for RVD to come out, RVD came through the crowd, snuck up from behind and Closelined Hassan to take him down. RVD then kicked Davari in the face sending him out of the ring. RVD then picked up Hassan and started to knee him in the face. Then RVD threw him across the ring into the other turnbuckle. Van Dam ran at him and hit a Monkey Flip (the fans start to chant *RVD*). Van Dam rolled to the outside and grabbed a chair. RVD came back in and taunted with the fans to get a reaction, but RVD turned around and got taken down with a Closeline from Muhammad Hassan. Hassan then grabbed the chair and waited for RVD to get to his feet. Once Van Dam did, Hassan took him back down with a chair shot to the head. Hassan then motioned for Davari to grab him a weapon, so, Davari grabbed a trash can and threw it into Hassan.
Hassan taunted to the crowd (fans start to boo) and placed the trash can in the middle of the ring. Hassan then grabbed RVD and hit a Suplex onto the trash can. Hassan went for the cover but only got a 2 count. Hassan then took RVD to the corner and started to chop him. Hassan then pulled RVD out of the corner and hit a Powerslam on the former ECW TV Champion. Hassan went to the top rope and went for a Splash but RVD moved at the last second and Hassan crashed and burned. RVD then grabbed Hassan and hit a Reverse Suplex onto the trash can so Hassan hit stomach first. Davari was on the outside yelling at the ref, so RVD hopped over the ref and over the ropes to the outside to hit a Hurincanrana on Davari and sent him into the barricade. RVD got a table from under the ring and set it up on the outside. While setting it up, Hassan grabbed RVD by his hair and pulled him up to the apron. RVD then kicked Hassan in the side of the head and held onto Hassan’s head as he jumped back down to the floor. RVD then got Davari and laid him on the table. RVD went to the top rope and did a Moonsault onto Davari through the table on the floor (fans start to go crazy).
After a while, after all three men were down, RVD brings himself to his feet using the apron. Hassan rolled out of the ring as RVD did that. Hassan creeped over and went for a Closeline on RVD, but RVD ducked and kicked him in the gut and hit a DDT on the floor. Van Dam then took the time keepers chair and slid it under Hassan’s head and went back onto the apron and jumped off it and hit a Spinning Leg Drop on Hassan to bust him open. Just as RVD was going to get himself and Hassan back in the ring, Davari hit a Low Blow on RVD. Hassan then got back to his feet and grabbed a wire from the camera man and started to choke RVD. RVD tried to gather oxygen, but Hassan choked RVD out and then threw him on the ground. Hassan then threw RVD back into the ring and got him to his feet and hit the STO onto the chair. Hassan went for the cover, but only got a 2 count! Hassan could not believe it. He didn’t know what else to do.
Hassan then scrambled around the ring trying to figure out what he should do next, so he went for another STO, but RVD reversed it by elbowing Hassan in the side of the head. RVD then picked up the chair and threw it at Hassan and hit the Vandaminator to get some time. Van Dam then grabbed Hassan and dragged him to the middle of the ring and went to the top rope. RVD signaled to the fans that he was going for the 5-Star Frog Splash, but Davari made his way up and distracted RVD before he could jump. Hassan then came at RVD and hit him in the head with the chair and then Hassan grabbed RVD in a Head Lock and hit a DDT from the top rope and went for the cover and won.
WINNER AND STILL ECW TV CHAMPION: MUHAMMAD HASSAN[/u]
Styles: Damn, if it wasn’t for that little rat Davari, Rob Van Dam would be the new ECW TV Champion.
Grisham: You got a point Joey, but you got to admit, when those to are together, they cannot be stopped.
Styles: You got that right, we just witnessed it here tonight when RVD got screwed, god I hate those two!
We cut backstage to see Big Show in the locker room getting ready as Batista walks in on him.
Batista: Hey, Show. I heard you talking about me on your little thing you call a show, ECW, is that right?
Big Show: Yeah, Dave, I did, so what are you going to do about? Are you accepting to come to ECW or am I gonna have to come to RAW and beat the respect out of you? Or do you just want me to do that right now?
Batista: No, there’s no chance in hell I will make an appearance on that dump. How bout this, you come to RAW tomorrow night and be a special guest in my celebration when I win the WWE Championship later tonight.
Big Show: You know what, I’ll come to RAW tomorrow night, but the WWE Championship will not be around your waist, I promise you that, good luck tonight, Dave.
Big Show walks out and Batista stares him down as we get underway with our next match, United States Championship Match, Maven defending his belt against Eddie Guerrero.
UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
MAVEN (C) VS. EDDIE GUERRERO[/u]
The match started with Maven tackling Eddie to the ground and punching him continually in the face until the ref got him off (Maven taunted to the crowd and the crowd started to cheer). Maven then took Eddie to the corner and started chopping at his chest. Maven then went to throw Maven into the corner, but Eddie reversed it and sent Maven into it. Eddie ran at Maven, but Maven caught him and slammed him to the ground. Maven then climbed to the top rope and hit a Missile Dropkick on Guerrero and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count. Maven went to pick up Eddie, but Eddie poked Maven in the eye and hit a DDT on the United States Champion. Both men were down for a while until Eddie pulled himself up to his feet. Maven got up and ran at Eddie again, but got taken down with an Arm Drag into an Arm Bar. Maven struggled for a bit but got to the bottom rope to break the hold.
Eddie didn’t stop working on Maven’s arm, Eddie started stomping on the arm of Maven to weaken it so it could not be used. Eddie then jumped in the air and hit a Leg Drop on Maven’s arm (people started to boo Eddie). Eddie being fed up stomped on Maven’s face. Eddie then waited for Maven to get up as he sat on the top rope. Maven finally got up and turned around and got hit with a top rope Hurincanrana and Eddie went for the cover, he only got a 2 count. Eddie then wanted to end the match then and hooked in the Lasso From El Paso (crowd started to get behind Maven). The United States Champion, with all his strength, finally made it to the bottom rope, Eddie held the hold on for 4 counts.
Guerrero signaled that the match was going to be over soon. Eddie went to start the 3 Amigos, but Maven caught him and took him down with a hard Closeline. Eddie got back up and got hit with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Maven finally kept Eddie down with a Running Powerslam. Maven then went for a Swinging Neckbreaker, but Eddie held on to the ropes as Maven fell and then went for a quick cover, using the ropes, only to get a 2 count. Eddie went to fight with the ref about the count being “slow” then Maven spun Eddie around and hit a Brainbuster Suplex and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count. Maven the took Eddie and hit the Halo DDT and went for the cover, but still only got a 2 count. Maven and the fans couldn’t believe it.
Maven did everything in his arsenal, and Guerrero still kicked out. Maven went for a German Suplex, but when Maven released Eddie, Eddie flipped over and landed on his feet. Maven turned around and got poked in the eye again and Guerrero hit the 3 Amigos. Guerrero went up to the top rope and hit the Frog Splash on Maven, but Maven kicked out (the fans went crazy)! Eddie didn’t have anything left in him. He went over to the ref and fought with him again about the count. Eddie rolled out of the ring and grabbed a steel chair. The ref grabbed the chair in the ring and threw it on the ground. Maven went running at Eddie for a Closeline, but Eddie ducked and Maven almost hit the referee. Maven turned back around and got hit with the chair from Eddie to end the match on a disqualification.
WINNER VIA DISQUALIFICATION AND STILL UNITED STATES CHAMPION: MAVEN[/u]
Cole: What an awful way to end a great match, on a DQ, that’s typical Eddie though.
Tazz: Hey, the match was still good, Michael, you gotta give it that, both men did everything they could to win here tonight, and Eddie’s rage just got to him.
Cole: Well, nonetheless, Maven is still the United States Champion, thanks to a chair shot from Eddie Guerrero. Let’s send it backstage for an interview with the man who will be facing Chris Benoit for the ECW Championship later tonight, Finlay.
Matthews: Ladies and Gentlemen, my guest at this time, the #1 Contender for the ECW Championship, Finlay (fans start to boo)! Finlay, everyone has been wondering, why have you come to ECW?
Finlay: Well, it’s pretty simple, Josh. You see, when I was on RAW last month, I wasn’t really being used a lot, and then they threw me into a random tag team with Carlito. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like Carlito, but I wanted to have a singles career. General Manager Eric Bischoff told me I would never have a singles career on his show, so I quit.
Matthews: Well, tonight, you go for the ECW Championship, what do you think of your opponent, Chris Benoit?
Finlay: Chris is an amazing athlete, very technical and he has some high flying moves in there, but tonight, I’m gonna give him a run for his money and take the ECW Championship home with me tonight.
Finlay walked off as we go back to Joey Styles and Todd Grisham on commentary.
Styles: Oh man I can’t wait for that match tonight, what about you, Todd?
Grisham: Are you kidding me? If you wanted to see technical wrestling at it’s finest, our mainevent is what you want to watch, I can’t wait to see the result. Let’s get underway with our next match, the ECW Tag Team Championship Match, champions William Regal & Sabu defending their titles against Test and Big Show.
ECW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH (EXTREME RULES MATCH)
WILLIAM REGAL & SABU (C) VS. BIG SHOW & TEST [/u]
The two men to start the match were William Regal and Test. The match started with a Lock Up in the middle of the ring and Regal got a Head Lock on Test and then kneed him in the face. Regal jumped on top of Test and started punching him in the face for a good while, then went over to the corner and took off the pad. Regal then picked up Test and threw him towards the corner, but Test reversed and then Regal reversed it again and sent Test chest first into the unprotective corner. Regal then got a hold of Test and hit a vicious Back Suplex on the former WWE Champion. Regal went over and tagged in his partner, Sabu, and Sabu ran in and hit a Leg Drop on the back of Test’s head. Sabu went over to Test’s corner, springboarded off one set of ropes, and Dropkicked the Big Show off the apron. Sabu tagged back in Regal and Sabu dove over the top rope to the outside and took out Big Show.
Regal picked up Test and started punching him and hitting him with elbows. Regal threw Test off the ropes and ducked to hit a Big Back Body Drop, but Test kicked him in the chest and went for the TKO on Regal, but Regal slid off his back and hit a Low Blow on Test into a roll up, Regal only got a 2 count. Regal then rolled to the outside and grabbed a steel chair and brought it back into the ring. Regal turned around in the ring and got the chair hit right into his face from Test via Big Boot. Both men were down (the crowd was chanting *Regal*). Test finally got up and saw that Big Show and Sabu were still going at it on the outside. Test rolled out and Sabu ran right at him only to get hit with a Big Back Body Drop on the floor. Test motioned for Big Show to get back to the apron so he could tag him and he did. Big Show is now in the match.
Big Show went right over to Regal and got him up in a Suplex and held him there for a good minute. Big Show finally dropped Regal hard. Big Show taunted to the crowd, but Sabu jumped off the top rope on to Big Show’s back and put on a Sleeper Hold. Not too long after, Big Show grabbed Sabu’s hair and threw him over his shoulder. Big Show turned around and Regal went to kick Show in the groin, but Big Show caught his foot. Big Show then hoisted Regal up on to his shoulders for a Powerbomb, but Show just pushed Regal off of his back to the outside of the ring. Test slid Big Show in a table and motioned that the match was over. Big Show grabbed the illegal man, Sabu, and picked him up to Chokeslam him through the table, but Sabu reversed it and DDT’d Big Show. Test tried running in and Closlining Sabu, but Sabu ducked and picked up the chair and threw it at Test. Sabu then jumped on the table and hit a Head Scissors on Test to the outside. Sabu then grabbed the chair and hopped on the table again. Sabu ran off the table to the outside and hit the Arabian Facebuster on Test on the floor (crowd goes crazy).
Regal made his way back in behind the Big Show with his brass knucks on. Regal took a swing at Big Show, but Show caught Regal’s hand and threw it down. Big Show then picked up Regal by the throat and hit a Chokeslam on him and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count. Show then got up and took down the strap and looked at the table. Show brought Regal up one more time going for the Chokeslam through the table, but Regal poked him in the eye and then hit his Running Knee Strike. Both men were down for a while and finally Regal crawled over and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count because Test came in and broke it up. Test turned around and saw Sabu jumping from the top rope and Test caught him and hit the TKO. Big Show and Regal started to get up, but Big Show pushed himself, grabbed Regal by the throat, and put him through the table with a Chokeslam to get the victory.
WINNERS AND NEW ECW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: BIG SHOW & TEST[/u]
Styles: What a match that was! All four of those men have nothing to be ashamed of. That was a great wrestling match, with some weapons of course.
Grisham: Those weapons came in handy too (looking back at the replay of how the weapons were used). I loved how Sabu ran off the table and hit the Arabian Facebuster on the outside on Test.
Styles: Yeah, and how the match ended? That Chokeslam looked brutal. We have new ECW Tag Team Champions and they look like they are nothing to mess with. Let’s send it over to our SmackDown! commentating team, Michael Cole and Tazz.
Cole: Thanks guys, and what a show we have had so far here tonight in Dallas, 2 titles have changed hands, but neither of them on SmackDown!.
Tazz: Yeah, we got a new Intercontinental Champion on RAW and we just saw new ECW Tag Team Champions crowned right here in front of us. Maybe there will be yet another title change in our next match, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms defends his belt against Paul London, it what is sure to be a great match.
Cole: Let’s get underway with the match.
CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
GREGORY HELMS (C) VS. PAUL LONDON W/ BRIAN KENDRICK[/u]
The match started with the two men nose to nose and then London hit an Arm Drag on the champ. Helms came back and hit a Head Scissors and then London hit a Dropkick, Helms hit a Dropkick of his own. Then Helms ran across the ring and went for a Closeline on London, but London ducked so Helms did a springboard back flip off the second rope, grabbed London by the head and hit a Reverse DDT to keep him down (fans applaud to show appreciation). Helms picked up London and took him to the corner and went for a Monkey Flip, but London fought him off and then London hit a springboard kick to Helms. London went to the top rope looking for the Shooting Star Press to put away the match fast, but Helms rolled out before London could jump for a ‘timeout’.
Helm finally rolled back into the ring and the two men Locked Up in the center of the ring. Helms broke the hold with an elbow to the gut and then ran off the ropes to attack London, but London hit a Big Back Body Drop on the champ and then hit a Standing Moonsault and went for the cover but only got a 2 count. London then waited for Helms to get up and then he ran at him, but Helms caught him and hit a Titlawhirl Backbreaker to slow London down. Helms then bounced off the ropes and hit a Knee Smash on London, then bounced off the opposite ropes and did it again. Then Helms stood there, taunted the crowd (fans start to boo) and hit a Standing Knee Smash on London and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count.
Helms then picked up London and went for a Suplex but London slipped behind Helms and hit a Swinging Reverse Neckbreaker and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count. London then got Helms by his legs and slingshot him into the corner, but Helms landed on the top rope and hit a Crossbody on London. Helms then went for the Shining Wizard, but London ducked out of it and then hit a Jumping DDT. Both men were down until Paul London nipped up after a little, Helms still was not moving. London looked to the crowd and motioned that he was going for the Shooting Star Press. The homestate hero climbed up to the top rope and went for the Shooting Star Press, but Helms moved and London crashed and burned. Helms rolled up London and used the ropes to get the 1, 2, 3.
WINNER AND STILL CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION: GREGORY HELMS[/u]
Cole: Gregory Helms just stole the victory, Tazz! That snake just beat Paul London!
Tazz: Easy, Cole. I wouldn’t necessarily call him a snake, just he picked his spots right and he retained his title. Good for Helms, I’m proud he is champion.
Cole: You would be, anyways, let’s send it over to JR &….. oh wait let’s go backstage to see Chris Benoit getting ready for his match later tonight with Joey Mercury.
Mercury: Hey, we had a great match this past week on ECW, and it was all because of you man, I just wanted to thank you on how much of an influence you have been on my career and I’m sure many others. You’re a great person, Chris.
Benoit: You know, Joey, you really do seem like the real deal, you’re young, talented, and you know how to respect people. I like that, and that’s why I am teaching you everything I know.
Mercury: I’m honored to be your pupil, Chris, thank you, and I would also like to accompany you to the ring tonight.
Benoit: I wouldn’t have it any other way, my good friend.
JR: What a great thing to see, a veteran helping out a young and uprising superstar.
King: Yeah, and that uprising superstar is a former Intercontinental, World Tag Team, and ECW Champion, what else could he have to learn, JR?
JR: You can never learn enough King, I guarantee Joey Mercury could have the company in the palm of his hands one day. But Ladies and Gentlemen, coming up next, it is a heated rivalry between two of the greatest tag teams in the history of the business, D-Generation X and the World Tag Team Champions The Hardyz.
(they show a video package from the past few weeks to form the build up of the match which is coming up next with tables and ladders set standing up around the ring, the fans in Dallas are split in half between Hardyz and DX)
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH (TLC MATCH)
THE HARDYZ (C) VS. D-GENERTAION X[/u]
The match started withy all four men in the middle of the ring brawling it out until Matt Hardy Closelined Michaels over the top rope. Jeff was working on Triple H in the corner, then Matt told Jeff to go to the other side so The Hardyz could hit the move called Poetry In Motion. Triple H was then sitting down in the corner so Jeff hit the Sunken Chest. Matt Hardy climbed to the opposite top rope and hit a Moonsault to the outside onto Shawn Michaels (the crowd was going crazy). Jeff rolled to the outside and grabbed a ladder to get the belts. Triple H saw Jeff going up the ladder so he hurried and got right up there with him and the two men went back and forth with rights and lefts. Triple H finally got the better of it when he shoved Jeff off the ladder. Triple H then reached for the World Tag Team Titles, but Jeff ran back up the ladder and Closelined Triple H off the top and both men crashed in the middle of the ring.
While Triple H and Jeff Hardy were down on the inside, Matt and Shawn were on the outside going at it with Michaels chopping away at Matt’s chest. Shawn went to smash Matt’s face off the steel steps, but Matt caught himself and smashed Michaels face off of it instead. Hardy then grabbed Shawn and went for the Twist of Fate, but HBK pushed Matt off and made him smash his knees off the steel steps. As Matt tried to get up, Michaels grabbed a steel chair and bashed it off Hardy’s face to bust him wide open. Michaels rolled back into the ring and went back and forth with Jeff, then Shawn lifted Jeff up and hit a Powerslam on the former WWE Champion. Michaels went to the top rope and hit his signature Elbow Drop and then went to tune up the band but then looked at the ladder and started to climb. Michaels almost made it to the top, but Jeff crawled over to the bottom of the ladder and tipped it over so Michaels fell right back onto the mat. Jeff stood in the middle of the ring alone taunting for the crowd (fans cheer) but didn’t notice Triple H getting back in the ring and hitting him in the back of the head with a sledgehammer. All four men were down in and out of the ring.
Triple H finally rolled to the outside to attack Matt as Matt was taking off the equipment from the RAW announce table. Triple H went to attack, but Matt spun around and hit him in the head with a table monitor to bust him open as well. Matt Hardy took Triple H on top of the announce table and hit a Twist of Fate on the former WWE Champion, but the table did not break. Both men lay on the outside of the ring. Back in the ring, Jeff and Shawn were going back and forth, with punches and chops, finally Michaels got Jeff to the ropes and threw him off them and then hit his Flying Forearm. Michaels then nipped up and Jeff got up real fast and hit an Enzugari on HBK to get some time to recover. Jeff went to hit the Twist of Fate on Michaels, but Michaels reversed it and Jeff went running at him and got hit with an Atomic Drop and then Michaels Closelined him and hit a hard DDT. Michaels then went to the corner and started to tune up the band, right before Shawn went for the kick, Jeff’s brother, Matt, climbed on the apron and Suplexed Shawn from the ring through one of the set up tables (fans start to chant HOLY SH*T!).
Once again, all four men are down, Jeff is the first to get up and sees that Triple H still has not moved from being hit with a Twist of Fate on the announce table. So, Jeff brought the ladder to the side of the ring and climbed to the top. Jeff taunted to the fans for a quick second and then Jeff hit a Swanton off the ladder, from the ring, onto Triple H through the announce table (the fans in the American Airlines Center blew the roof off)! There was carnage all over the ring, nobody moved for a good minute. Matt Hardy started to get up, but he only got knocked back down by Shawn Michaels with a Sweet Chin Music. HBK started to crawl back in the ring very slowly. Not far behind him was Matt Hardy. Matt caught up to Shawn and both men brawled it out for a little until Matt went for a Closeline, but Michaels ducked and went for another Sweet Chin Music, but this time matt ducked and Matt finally hit the Twist of Fate on Shawn Michaels (fans start to cheer).
Matt started to climb up the ladder very slowly, one rung at a time. Shawn saw Hardy almost at the top of the ladder so he crawled to the other side and began to climb as well. Both Shawn Michaels and a bloodied Matt Hardy fought it out at the top of the ladder (a Let’s Go Hardy and HBK chant came from the crowd). All four of these men have put their bodies on the line, still on the outside, Jeff and Triple H have not moved an inch. Michaels got his face smashed off the ladder by Matt then Hardy reached for the gold, but Michaels pulled him back down and went for a big hit but Hardy ducked and Michaels spun around on the rung. Matt shoved HBK in the back and sent him to the outside through another table. Matt then got on the top of the ladder and grabbed the World Tag Team Championships to retain the gold.
WINNERS AND STILL WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: THE HARDYZ[/u]
JR: What an amazing showing of athleticism we just witnessed! The carnage and brutality can never be matched!
King: That was one of the best matches I have ever seen from these four guys, and we lost our announce table in the process!
JR: Oh I don’t care about an announce table right now, King, we just witnessed history, the two greatest tag teams in the history of the business going at it and giving everything they had, and they put on one hell of a match, congratulations to The Hardyz!
King: Yeah, celebrate now, but if I know Shawn and Triple H, this isn’t over, not even close. Let’s send it over to our ECW commentating team, Joey Styles and Todd Grisham, guy?
Styles: And I thought we were extreme! That match was insane! That is arguably the show stealer…….at least for now, because coming up next, it’s our mainevent, the ECW Championship Match with Chris Benoit defending the championship, against ECW newcomer Finlay.
(We now see a video package of Finlay’s arrival in ECW and why he is going for the championship and how these two men feel about eachother)
ECW CHAMPIONSHIP (EXTREME RULES MATCH)
CHRIS BENOIT (C) W/ JOEY MERCURY VS. FINLAY[/u]
The match started with the two men Locking Up in the middle of the ring, and it was broken and both Finlay and Benoit stared eachother down (fans cheer). The men Lock Up once more and Finlay knees Benoit in the gut a few times and then tosses him off the ropes, Benoit reverses and throws Finlay off the ropes and hits a Big Back Body Drop on the fighting Irishman. Finlay went running at Chris, but Benoit caught him and hit a Northern Lights Suplex and went for the cover, but he only got a 2 count. Benoit went over to Finlay to try and put on the Sharpshooter, but Finlay kicked him off. Benoit went to go for it again, but Finlay grabbed Benoit quickly and got him in a Small Package, but only got a 2 count. Both men got back up and Finlay hit a Powerslam on Chris and then jumped and sat right on his chest. Finlay rolled out of the ring to grab the first weapon to enter the match.
Finlay came back in the ring with none other than his weapon of choice, the shillelagh. Finlay swung at Benoit’s knee and connected with it. While Benoit lay on the ground, grueling in pain, Finlay kept hitting Benoit in the knee and then went for the cover, but only got a 2 count. Finlay then stocked Benoit as he struggled to get to his feet only to get taken down again by a Chop Block. Finlay rolled back out of the ring again and shoved Mercury off the chair he was sitting on so he could have it. Mercury didn’t let Finlay get back in the ring so quickly, because Mercury grabbed Finlay and hit a DDT on the outside then slid the chair in to the ECW Champion. Both men were down for a good while, Benoit got up in the ring and noticed Finlay was starting to get up on the outside. So Benoit, bad knee and all, ran from one side of the ring and did a Suicide Dive through the second rope onto Finlay (the crowd went nuts and started to chant *Benoit*). Benoit then looked under the ring for a weapon and grabbed a sheet of metal and smashed it off of Finlay’s head. This was the beginning of extreme in this match.
Benoit then dragged Finlay over to where the bell keeper sat on the bench. Benoit motioned for him to move. The champion went to German Suplex Finlay through it, but Finlay fought out of it and then put Benoit through it with a Suplex of his own. Mercury was standing behind Finlay and Benoit through the fight and Finlay noticed it. So Finlay turned around and picked up the unexpecting Joey Mercury and hit the Celtic Cross on him on the floor. While all three men were still outside of the ring, Finlay grabbed Benoit’s leg with the bad knee and hooked in a Half Boston Crab. All you heard throughout the American Airlines Center was the screams of the ECW Champion. Finlay finally let go of the hold and went under the ring and grabbed a table and brought it into the ring and set it up right in the middle. Finlay went back outside and grabbed Benoit and threw him back in the ring.
Finlay took started hitting Benoit with lefts and rights which lead them to the corner where Finlay continued to hit Benoit, until Benoit ducked out of one of the punches and started chopping away at Finlay’s chest until both men were ready to fall over. Finlay, walking out of the corner, got hit with a rough Belly-to-Belly Suplex from the champion. Both men were down for a good while until both men got up at an 8 count. Benoit went running at Finlay for a Closeline, but Finlay hit a Drop Toe Hold on Benoit and then hooked in the Figure-Four Leg Lock. They were locked in the hold for a solid minute until Benoit flipped him over and hooked in the Sharpshooter (the fans erupted). Finlay didn’t know if he could hang on but he finally shook Benoit free of the hold. Both men struggling to even walk got to their feet and then Benoit hit 3 German Suplexes in a row. Benoit signaled that the match would be over soon, but then looked at what was set up in the ring, the table.
Benoit placed Finlay on his back on the table and then grabbed the steel chair and put it on Finlay’s face. Benoit climbed to the top rope slowly and then looked at the crowd before the Rabid Wolverine leaped from the top rope and hit the Diving Headbutt on Finlay through the table (the fans were going crazy and started to chant *ECW*)! Both men were busted open from the steel chair. Neither men moved for a while, then a bloodied Benoit crawled over to a motionless Finlay and covered him, but he only got a 2 count! The fans were stunned, they couldn’t believe it, and neither could Benoit. The champion did what he did best, kept going. Chris Benoit climbed back up the top rope and went for another Diving Headbutt, only this time Finlay moved and Benoit crashed and burned. Finlay was playing possum the whole time and waited for Benoit to get up. Finlay went for the Celtic Cross to seal the deal, but Benoit slid off his back and Finlay went for a Closeline only to get it reversed into the Crossface! It only took a few second for Finlay to tap out and give Chris Benoit the victory.
WINNER AND STILL ECW CHAMPION: CHRIS BENOIT[/u]
Styles: What an amazing match of technical and hardcore mixed together! It was better than I expected it to be, in the end Chris Benoit stays the ECW Champion!
Grisham: What a way to end ECW’s matches here tonight, that was a classic and I’m sure nobody will ever forget this match, especially Benoit’s pupil, Mercury, it had to give him a ton of pointers.
Styles: That’s great to see, the pupil helping his mentor out of a grueling match up, congrats Chris Benoit!
We now cut backstage to see ECW General Manager Theodore Long, Mr. Money in the Bank Booker T, and SmackDown! General Manager and owner of the WWE, Vince McMahon watching what just happened.
Long: See, now that’s how you do a championship match, playa…..I mean Mr. McMahon.
McMahon: That was a great match you booker there, Teddy, very exciting, what did you think of it, Booker?
Booker T: That was great, I mean I wrestled both those guys, and I know what they got, that was an amazing match.
McMahon: So, Booker, when are you going to cash in your championship contract?
Booker T: Well…..
Just then, a knock came at the door and Mr. McMahon told them to come in, it was the World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton.
Orton: Mr. McMahon, I have a great match I thought of and I thought…
Booker T: Excuse you, Randy, I was just talking before you rudely interrupted.
Orton: Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot about you Booker since you haven’t been on pay-per-views recently, my apologies, please do continue.
Booker T: You really don’t have any respect do you, Orton? (Orton just laughs) Look at me when I’m talking to you boy (fans start to cheer and boo)! You see, later tonight, you got a real tough match against The Undertaker, who knows, maybe I’ll see you out there, now can you dig that?!
Orton: You know what, I’ll just talk to you later, Mr. McMahon.
As Orton walks out, Booker T gives a glare to Randy Orton.
JR: What a confrontation between Booker T and SmackDown!’s World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton. Could we see that championship match in the future?
King: It’s quite possible, but what about this next match, JR? The WWE Championship is on the line! The champion Rey Mysterio will be defending the gold against The Animal Batista! It’s gonna be great!
JR: Indeed it will be, King, let’s take a look back at how all of this started.
(A video package comes on the titantron showing how this feud started, back when Batista became #1 Contender at One Night Stand, to the past weeks on RAW)
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
REY MYSTERIO (C) VS. BATISTA[/u]
The fans in Dallas were going crazy as the two men stared eachother down in the middle of the ring (half of the fans were chanting for Rey, half was chanting for Batista). The match started with the two men Locking Up in the middle of the ring and Batista shoved the champion off the ropes and Rey came back with a Dropkick which didn’t take Batista down. Rey ran off the ropes again and went for another Dropkick, but Batista tossed Mysterio over him. Batista turned around and got hit with a Head Scissors which put Batista in the ropes. Rey ran to the other side of the ring and back and went for the 619 but Batista moved out of the way and Rey motioned to Batista “that close”. Rey ran at Batista and Batista grabbed him fast and got him up in a Suplex. Batista held Rey up for a good while until he finally slammed him to the ground. Batista went for the cover but only got a 2 count.
Batista then waited for Rey to get back up. Once Rey did, Batista went charging at him with a Closeline, but Rey ducked and the Mysterio ran right at the challenger, but Batista caught him and took him over to the corner to nail Rey with some Shoulder Thrusts. Batista pulled out and then went for a Running Shoulder Thrust, but Rey leaped over Batista at the last second and did a victory roll to The Animal for the cover, but Rey only got a 2 count. Rey then ran at Batista again, but once again, Batista caught him and hit a strong Powerslam, Batista went for the cover, he only got a 2 count. Batista then went over to the corner and set up for the Spear. Once Rey got up, Batista went rushing at him, but Rey hopped over Batista. Batista turned around and got taken down with a Facebuster from the champion (the crowd is on their feet for this championship match). Mysterio ran off the one side of the ring and hit a Senton. Then Rey hit a Standing Moonsault and went for the cover, but only got a 2 count.
Rey started to feel that he had the match in his control, so he ran at Batista, but The Animal caught him and went for a Spinebuster, but Rey countered it and hit a DDT instead. Rey started to taunt with the fans to get him even more on his side as he climbed to the top rope. Rey went for a Crossbody on Batista, but Batista Speared him in mid air and both men were down. Pain showed on Mysterio’s face, exhaustion on Batista’s. Finally, both men got to their feet and went back and forth with punched and forearms. Rey went for another forearm but Batista caught him and hit a Spinebuster. Batista did not go for the cover at first since he was tired, so after a while he crawled over to the champion and laid his arm over his chest, but Rey kicked out at 2! Batista could not believe it.
Batista used the ropes to pull himself back up and took off his elbow pad signaling he was going for a Closeline. Batista went for the Closeline, but Rey ducked and then hit a Springboard Crossbody. Then Rey bounced off the ropes and then hit Batista with his signature Bulldog. Rey then went to hit another Head Scissors on Batista, but Batista flipped him off his shoulders and then connected with the hard Closeline flipping Mysterio completely. Batista went over the ropes and shook them and went “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down”. Batista grabbed Mysterio and got him in the Batista Bomb position and hoisted him up, Rey got up and jumped off Batista’s shoulders. Batista turned around and got hit with an Enzugari from the champion and landed in the ropes. Rey ran across the ring and hit the 619 (the fans went crazy)! Rey then leaped off the ropes and went to finish Batista with a Hurincanrana, but Batista caught him on his shoulders and went for the Batista Bomb once more, but Rey countered it again into the Hurincanrana into a cover for the 1, 2, 3!
WINNER AND STILL WWE CHAMPION: REY MYSTERIO[/u]
King: Oh my god, JR! Mysterio actually did it! He retained the title!
JR: I believed in him the whole time, King, he is a true champion, what a match we just witnessed.
Batista got up and stuck his hand out to Rey Mysterio and Rey shook his hand and the two men hugged, then they were interrupted by new #1 Contender John Morrison.
Morrison: Congratulations, Mysterio, that was an amazing match, but you see, you only have one more night left as champion, so use it wisely because tomorrow night, I will be taking the WWE Championship away from you in my home town!
JR: I almost forgot about that tomorrow night, King. We have another WWE Championship Match tomorrow night!
King: Yeah, and not just anywhere, in Los Angles! Those fans may see their hometown hero become the WWE Champion for the first time in history!
Cole: Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, the WWE will be back on pay-per-view next month with The Great American Bash, it should be a great show.
Tazz: Yeah, the Bash should be good, but tonight has been amazing! I mean all the titles were on the line, all the matches were great to watch, but this next match I have been waiting for for a long time now.
Cole: I’m sure you’re not the only one, because Ladies and Gentlemen, coming up next, is the mainevent, the World Heavyweight Championship Match, Randy Orton defending the championship against the phenom, The Undertaker.
(on the titantron, we see a video package from last months pay-per-view, One Night Stand, when Undertaker threw Orton off the side of the stage and all the weeks leading up to tonight with “Hell Yeah” playing in the background)
Rev Theory sets up on stage to perform Randy Orton’s theme song as we begin the mainevent.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
RANDY ORTON (C) VS. THE UNDERTAKER[/u]
The bell rang and the mainevent was underway. Both men walked around the ring staring eachother down. Finally, they Locked Up in the middle of the ring. Randy got Undertaker in a Chin Lock, but Taker soon got out of it by throwing Orton off the ropes and then taking him down with a stiff Uppercut. Taker then took Randy to the corner and started hitting him with elbows and punches. Then Undertaker lifted Orton on his shoulder going for the Tombstone, but Randy slid off and rolled to the outside to catch his breath (fans were split down the middle, half chanting *RKO* and *Let’s Go Taker*). Finally, Orton got back into the ring and the two men Locked Up once again. This time, Taker elbowed him in the gut and lifted him up for a Suplex, but Orton went behind Taker’s back when he lifted him and hit a Reverse DDT. Then Randy bounced off the ropes and did a Jumping Knee Smash to Taker. After that Orton taunted for the crowd, some cheered, some booed.
Orton did not let The Undertaker stay down untouched. Orton went over and started stomping on his head. Orton then went over and locked in a Chin Lock on the down Deadman. After a minute or so, Taker got the strength and lifted Orton up into the air and then hit a Back Suplex to get him odd. The Undertaker did something we do not always see, and that is go to the tope rope. Taker waited for Orton to get up and when he did, Orton got hit with a Flying Closeline from the phenom. Taker then Closelined Orton over the top rope to the outside. The Undertaker took Orton over the announce table and smashed his face off of it. Orton stood there for a second and then got taken down with a DDT from The Undertaker. The ref’s count got up to 6 so The Undertaker rolled back into the ring and right back out to attack Orton.
When Taker came back out, Orton punched Taker right in the face, so Taker answered back with another Uppercut to take the champion down. Taker then laid Orton dangling head first off the apron. Taker first smashed his elbow off the back of Orton’s head. Taker then jumped on the apron and then hit a Leg Drop on the World Heavyweight Champion to send him to the floor. The ref’s count was at 5, Taker standing in the ring, Orton struggling to get up. At the count of 8, Randy Orton got back into the ring. Randy came in and with all his force went for a Closeline, but Taker caught him by the throat and went for the Chokeslam, but Randy poked him in the eye and took him down with a beautiful Dropkick. Both men were down for a while. Orton finally got up with help from the ropes, Taker just got up on his own. Orton then engaged in a blow for blow match against The Deadman. Both men kept going at it until The Undertaker swung one time and Orton ducked and went for the RKO, but The Undertaker pushed him off and went for a Big Boot, but then Orton ducked and hit The Undertaker with his signature Back Breaker. Orton went for the cover on The Undertaker and only got a 2 count.
Orton stalked Taker as he got to his hands and knees. Orton went for the Punt, but The Undertaker moved and when Orton turned around he was once again grabbed by the throat and was then hit with the Chokeslam. The Undertaker went for the cover to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, but Orton kicked out at the last second. The Undertaker then grabbed Orton and dragged the champion over to the corner. The Undertaker picked him up with that same arms, climbed to the top rope and hit Old School on the Legend Killer. The Undertaker then waited for Orton to turn around and went for the Last Ride, but Orton slid off Taker’s shoulders and landed behind him. The Undertaker turned around and got hit with an RKO! Both men laid motionless in the ring from being exhausted and the fans in Dallas were going crazy for the mainevent. Randy didn’t even go for the cover because he didn’t think it was enough. So, he waited for Taker to get back and attempted another RKO, but The Undertaker threw him off this time and then caught Randy fast and hit the Last Ride on the champion. The Undertaker went for the cover, but still only got a 2 count!
The Undertaker stood up in disbelief and then he signaled for the match to be over. The Undertaker lifted up Orton once again for the Tombstone, but Orton slid off again and nailed another RKO on The Deadman. This time, Orton went for the cover, but he still got a 2 count (the fans were stunned)!! The look on Orton’s face said “Can I actually win?” Orton sat in the middle of the ring not knowing what to do. Orton looked back at The Undertaker and The Undertaker sat up and looked right at Orton! Orton got up and backed up against the ropes. Randy ran at Taker for a Closeline, but The Undertaker lifted him up and got him in the Tombstone position, but Randy tipped Undertaker back and then Orton had Undertaker up in the Tombstone position, but then Undertaker flipped him back over and hit the Tombstone. The Undertaker went for the cover, but he only got a 2 count since Orton grabbed the ropes. Now the look on The Undertaker’s face was the same as Orton’s. The Undertaker picked Orton back up and went for another Tombstone, but Orton got out of it and hit another RKO! Randy went for the cover, but The Undertaker hooked in Hell’s Gates before Orton could pin him. Orton tried to get to the ropes, but he couldn’t make it, so he leaped over Undertaker and went for the cover with the hold still in, but The Undertaker kicked out and let go of the hold. Both men got up quick and The Undertaker turned around and hit a fourth and final RKO to retain the championship!
WINNER AND STILL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: RANDY ORTON[/u]
Cole: Oh my god what a match! Both men laid everything out and gave it there all and Randy Orton came out still the World Heavyweight Champion!
Tazz: You took the words right out of my mouth, Cole. Such a brutal match, 4 RKO’s, Michael, 4!!
Cole: I’m not surprised by that at all. That’s all the time for us here at Night of Champions, from everyone here, thanks for joining us here in Dallas, TX. Goodnight!
