I was just reading a bit on the history of In Your House. IYH started the monthly WWF PPVs.
I was reading the card for the first IYH ever, and I noticed a high profile name missing for the time. HBK was not on the card for the very first IYH, even thought he had just won the Royal Rumble and headlined WrestleMania with Diesel that year (I know Bam Bam Vs. Taylor was the actual main event, but we all know that HBK and Diesel was bigger.)
Who knows why HBK was not on the card?
Was it a fluke?
Was he hurt?

I believe he was still selling the trifecta of Powerbombs that Sid gave him the night, or a week after 'Mania.

The first match I remember him in after returning was against Kama at KOTR 1995, but he most likely had a KOTR qualifying match but against who that was, escapes me.

HBK returned on the 5/22/95 edition on RAW, beating King Kong Bundy in a KOTR qaulifier.

HBK returned on the 5/22/95 edition on RAW, beating King Kong Bundy in a KOTR qaulifier. Which, for additional info, was taped on 5/15/1995 in Binghamton, N.Y. (this was the era when the WWF did three episodes of Raw per TV taping... one live, and two taped). I was at the show as a teenager. Another fun fact: HBK's return vs. Bundy was on the same card as HHH's first ever match on Raw, against a jobber. Just think: On that night, HBK and HHH barely even knew each other, and HHH was among the least powerful wrestlers (politically) in that locker room.

If the live Raw was 8 til 9, presumably the show would go on until about 11 or so, including the dark match main event?

It went until 11 p.m. or thereabouts, yes. In 1995, Raw aired from 9-10 p.m. ET and they taped one episode's worth of matches BEFORE the live broadcast, and another hour's worth AFTER the broadcast. They went through the taped matches very quickly since they didn't have to sit around during commercial breaks or make the crowd wait during backstage vignettes, etc. Hunter Hearst Helmsley's debut was on the live show, however, and they timed it terribly. He entered the ring just before a commercial break, and they didn't start the match until after the commercial. So HHH gets in the ring -- 75 percent of the fans have no idea who he is despite his WCW experience -- and is forced to prance around the ring with his nose in the air as that terrible theme song played. He got called some pretty awful names by the classy folks at ringside.
