Can someone tell me why Tommy Dreamer was not ECW Champion (in the original ECW) eariler or for that matter, given a long title reign?
I read somewhere he didn't want the belt. If so, why?

Tommy Dreamer was never ECW champion because he never BEAT the champion for a title
DUH! :-P
no, to be honest I'm glad you asked this, because it's been bugging me too.

From everything I've heard, he enjoys jobbing.

Actually he did win it; at CyberSlam '00, but was robbed of it by Justin Credible.
And yes, according to 'The Rise + Fall...', he never wanted to win any titles throughout his tenure.

he never wanted the spotlight to be on him, he always wanted to be supporting the business and be an attraction but not the mega star. he was a modest guy. amazing talent, one of my all time favourites.

i dont get it on his part...don't you join this profession to be the best? Who decides that winning titles makes you the best though? Jake Roberts never won a title but he is arguably one of the greatest heels of our generation. Shawn Michaels politicked the majority of his title reigns. There is so many different variable that go into being a champion.

Yeah I knew he won it from Tazz, but lost it literally 2 minutes later. I just thought ECW would have had him champ for at least a month.

Dreamer's said he never wanted to win it, he wanted to be remembered as a "lovable loser" of sorts who could likely beat the crap out of anyone who did want to hold the belt.
