What was the story behind this? When Mr Perfect stole the championship belt from Hulk Hogan and smashed it with a hammer. What was the feud going on at the time.
Bonus Q. I could have sworn it became the hardcore championship, but I think I saw it on eBay for $10,000 (the smashed world champion). So what became of the belt?

i rember this been on ebay too, after the hardcore title had been made.
looking at the hardcore title it looked like one of the replica belts you can get smashed up, if i rember rightly the one mr perfect smashed seemed alot thicker.

yea I think the original one Mr Perfect smashed up was given to a WWF employee who might have sold it off, or its held in WWE HQ?
But I seem to remember reading that the Hardcore Belt given to Mankind in 1998 was a replica belt that the WWF smashed and used, and was not the original smashed title belt.

I think the whole "belt-that-Hennig-smashed-became-Hardcore-title"thing is a huge urban legend now.

I could have sworn someone on this site is now in possession of it. If memory serves me correct, I remember someone posting pictures of the smashed belt and saying it was in their possession.

The guy who last owned and consequently sold the belt on eBay is a member here as well as a few other boards that I post on. No, that belt was not turned into the Hardcore belt. K5's post sums it up perfectly and more importantly, truthfully. Although the Hardcore belt was a real, legit "extra" WE, not a replica.

ya pawnthesandman is a super belt collector and he posts here, he owned the broken belt and sold it. It was a legit belt that they destroyed and it did not become the hardcore. WWF actually used over 30 different Winged Eagle belts. If you guys want more info on belts you should join belttalk.com
