I thought the Legion of Doom was always a WWF thing, so this has surprised me: Anyone who was watching WCW in around 93ish when Hawk and Animal went back there after their WWF run... Was WCW calling them the Legion of Doom on TV for a while?

They were called the Legion of Doom in the AWA in the early 80's when they were a part of a group with Paul Ellering. Eventually, it just stuck with them, and they pretty much have been referred to as both LOD and Road Warriors, often by both in the NWA and WCW.
If memory serves.

In the early NWA days, Hawk and Animal were the Road Warriors, but when they were doing 6 man tags or with Paul Ellering, they were The LOD. The E ended up using that name for the tag team in their first stint.

The E ended up using that name for the tag team in their first stint. just to add to that, it was decided to call them the legion of doom when they first entered the wwf because the wwf had the ultimate warrior, who was wwf champion at the time and thought the name road warriors was too similar to their champions name so went with the name legion of doom.

Since I really consider the NWA and WCW of that era the same thing, I always really saw LOD as a WCW thing

The Irony, neither "The Road Warriors" or "Legion of Doom" were an original creation.
