I hated it, something about it really bugged me, guess the gimmick did what it was supposed to.

I didn't care much for the gimmick when I was a kid but, looking back now, Hunter did a great job with the character despite being involved in boring mid-card feuds for most of the mid-90s.
I love how the gimmick was based on neighbors of Vince's when he first moved to Connecticut. It didn't seem like it had any staying power at first, but HHH benefitted from his friendship with and membership to The Kliq.
My favorite feud of his as the Blue Blood would be against Mankind throughout the summer of 1997. I can appreciate the work Hunter put in to earn the respect of others and to establish himself as one of the up-and-comers to lead the WWF into the 2000s. Some might not agree with how he got there or was able to maintain his status as a main eventer, but the Blue Blood character was a great starting point for him.
Overall, I thought the WWF did a pretty good job in grooming him for success over several years instead of all at once; he definitely had to pay his dues, but it paid off for him in the long run.

I love how the gimmick was based on neighbors of Vince's when he first moved to Connecticut. ...even though he had the same gimmick in WCW.

From what I recall, the WWF emphasized his Connecticut upbringing more, hence the dig at Vince's neighbors when he arrived with his wrestling business years before.
