I've never heard of this but if I had to guess its probablly the type of contract that the Undertaker has. Like only wrestle half the year.

I'm pretty sure a Legends contract means you're not a regular wrestler, you may do an occasional match if asked, but are largely used for publicity purposes more than anything.

Hugo basically summed it up. You're signed to a contract and paid usually per appearance. It also gives you the right to have WWE make merchandise of yourself and sell it so you can gain royalties. Some that sign legends contracts do wrestle on occasion like Hogan, Duggan etc. Mostly though guys are retired and just need a lil extra cash flow like Austin or maybe Rock

Basically, WWE pays a sum, and get the rights to use the wrestler for figures, video games, shirts, etc.
I think people under legends deals also have to make appearances at signings and such for WWE and have to ask permission to do appearances for anyone else. Though I'm not 100% sure about that part.

Contining with the notion, a WWE Legends contract is essentially for non-active wrestlers (or semi-active wrestlers) whom WWE is using as a means to produce merchandise, video games, figures, DVDs, etc to tap into the growing wrestling-nostalgic market.

He wanted the merch but didn't want to deal with Vince.

Thats mean your not wrestle for one promotion full time, and you are allow to work other promotions, like as Mick Foley used be appearance other shows even he work for WWE, because of legend contract.
The Undertaker dont have legend contract, thought.
