Although Hogan got wrestling into the mainstream, Stone Cold made it cool too watch. He was so badass people back then would watch it just to fit in. Now it's the other way around.

First thing that came to mind, even before clicking the link to this thread: The Undertaker.

For longevity, it's the Undertaker, HBK a close second because of him being out years at a time, I think the most Taker was out was 8 months or so.

I voted for Taker but I like Stone Cold more.

Doesn't character sort of mean gimmick?, SCSA and Hogan's gimmicks seem to extensions of themselves whereas Taker is completely over the top

Technically, Hogan was playing the same character in WWF that he was in AWA years earlier, even down to Hulk(a)mania, so technically they didn't create the CHARACTER. I would say The Undertaker because he is most certainly a character and he has evolved so many times in the same company.

For me, its Kane. He was able to adapt to anything, and the fans loved him. Whether it be Comedy, or just Kick A**, he fit in there.

clearly Rock or Hogan. to be succesful to me means if ur an old lady who thinks wrestling is galadators from Rome. and he knows who u are. that means ur succesful.

The Rock was easily the biggest draw in recent wrestling history. There is no question that he was the most successful "character." How is their "no question". Im questioning it by saying Stone Cold, and thats not an outrageous claim.

Longevity- Undertaker or Hogan
Ability to connect to multiple audiences- Austin
To me the Rock does not count although he has proven to have the most mass market appeal. He was great and is a great over all entertainer. That is where the problem begins. He is an all around entertainer that happened to make his first real mark in pro wrestling and has proven to be the reverse of a guy like Hogan or Piper. Hogan might be a great character and success for having been a promotional monster but has proven that his movies are awful and his real life is more interesting than anything he has tried to do in entertainment other than wrestling. Therefore he will be known more as a guy that was a wrestler that dabbled in other forms of entertainment where as the Rock is an entertainer that once wrestled. Generally the same but different when you really think of it. Guys like Undertaker or HBK, HHH and even Austin would not have been as successful in any other walk of life if they werent in pro wrestling. Austin and his appeal to the masses was situational in regards to doing the right things at the right time and place and enough people be them true wrestling fans or not could relate to him and his character in some fashion.

I hate him with a passion, but it has to be Hogan. It takes some creative magic to make an egomaniacal buttwipe like Terry Bollea into a living Superman. Vince pulled it off. Maybe SCSA or Rock could have eclipsed Hogan's notoriety over time but they didn't stick around long enough. I have to call a spade a spade: it's Hulk.

Stone Cold Character was created by Paul Heyman in ECW, so technically he shouldn't count as a THE MOST SUCCESFUL CHARACTER WWE ever created.
Hogan also developed most of his signature poses and mannerisms, while wresteling n AWA, but the name Hulk Hogan did come from Vince Sr.
Aside from Hogan I gotta go with Taker.

1. Hogan 2. Undertaker
Austin and Rock pretty much fell into their gimmicks AKA were their characters, hence WWE didn't have much of a hand in creating them.

I've often wondered how many sleepless nights Verne Gagne had while wishing he would have held on to Hogan.

So don't be a douche if you are going to be obnoxious too. Maybe there is no question in HIS mind.
