WrestlingFigs.com recently had a discussion with Mattel and talked about how Mattel has taken over the WWE Wrestling figure lineup from Jakks Pacific. Below are some of the highlights from the chat.
The figures will be in scale with the original Jakks figures.
Jakks offered 400-500 figures to retail each year and Mattel is looking to deliver products as frequently if not more.
Mattel is working on the idea of vinyl style figures.
Mattel is looking to have new WWE figures on the retails shelves as soon as January 1st, 2010.
All PPV themed rings and accessories will be made.
The Four Horsemen will contribute somewhere in the line.
Mattel learned from the irregular case breakdowns from Masters of the Universe and looking to correct this issue with the WWE figures.
Everything for the WWE line will be 100% new sculpting and tooling.
Online exclusives are being planned.
sorry if this is already posted!and pls smite me 4 that! ;D

The Four Horsemen will contribute somewhere in the line. Just to be clear, that's the toy designers, not the wrestling faction. I can see people getting worked up about a Mattel Classic line with that quote.

Do the Four Horsemen sculpt the molds themselves or something?

Do the Four Horsemen sculpt the molds themselves or something? The Four Horseman have sculpted almost all of the DCSH/DCUC & MotU Classics lines. I think they are doing the new Ghostbusters line also. If they are working on the WWE figures I think they'll be awesome. for people not familiar with their work here's a link to their site - www.fourhorsemen.biz/

It should be interesting to see how this will all pan out. PLus now, especially these boards we are so used to Jasska Figure Talk. Nww It'll be with Mattel, at least with the WWE line. I hope the belts look better as well.

If the Four Horsemen are working on it, it will be good.
I can't wait for WWE figures that have 100% individual sculpts rather than just being made from stock parts.

So are these going to be on scale with BCA or RA figures? I'd prefer that they'd have a different scale but whatever.

This is all i need to know... i will now def get Mattel figs! They'll be in scale, but look exactly like your sig. And I think we're being to generous with the '100% new sculpting and tooling' line. At least I hope so. A huge part of the strong customizing community for RA figures is because of the stock parts. Also a huge part of the delays Toybiz/Marvel Toys experienced with the TNA line were because of the seemingly refusal to use stock parts. I mean how many variations can we really expect for guys in tights? I like that we're not getting DCUC or MotUC molds, but if it means 500 figures a year I'm good with using some of the same parts from HHH for Batista or the same torso for Edge and Christian. However like the Toybiz/Marvel TNA line if we start getting delays because Petey Williams and AJ Styles cant be the same, despite actually wearing the same shorts/kickpads and both being X Division guys, then it's not going to be good.

Sounds awesome. Guess I'll have plenty of money to spend on Mattel figs, since I'm probably done with Jakks at this point.
