Hollywood producer Jeff Katz' new company American Original has signed a deal with TNA Wrestling and several other former personalities from the wrestling business.
In today's edition of entertainment trade journal Variety, Katz commented that signing TNA “marks my return to the business after a decade and I'm looking to make an impact by trying to grow TNA as an alternative to WWE."
American Original will work to help bring TNA branding and entertainment industry opportunities. The announcement comes on the heels of TNA receiving some really positive press in the most popular entertainment industry blog, Deadline Hollywood, for their part in the Wrath of Con after-party event at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. The party was populated by a number of players in the Hollywood industry, giving TNA its greatest exposure within that world to date.
As a teenager, Katz worked as a personality on the old WCW 900 Hotline before breaking into the Hollywood community working on such fare as Freddy vs. Jason and the recent Wolverine film. He left his post at 20th Century Fox to form American Original with the plan being cultivating properties among different platforms including television, comic book and film mediums. Katz has worked as an author on a number of comic projects.
American Original will also work with former WWE Creative team members. American Original will be working with former WWE writer Chris Bell in developing his performance drug documentary "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" into a new scripted film that would explore the world of performance drug abuse, including steroids.
While not mentioned in the piece, Katz's American Original is also working with Paul Heyman on another potential project.
