MMAMANIA
Anderson Slva to give up belt, move to 205?
"With his arm wrapped around White’s shoulder, Soares leaned in and delivered a proposition. "Spider" Silva would move permanently to light heavyweight, even if it meant the unorthodox move of giving up his middleweight belt."
"I can do that," White smiled, a bit stunned at the offer. "I like that. We can do that."
"Soares smiled and shook White’s hand."
"I’d let him," White said later, sitting in his quiet dressing room. "We’d put [the middleweight title] up for grabs."
HT: sports.yahoo.com ----------------------------
If this does happen, won't the winner of the MW belt forever have a cloud over his head known as Anderson Silva?MMAMANIA Anderson Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, has informed ESPN.com that an August 9 report from Yahoo Sports about Anderson Silva relinquishing his 185-pound title for a permanent move to light heavyweight, is untrue. The report quoted Soares as offering Silva to UFC President Dana White as a permanent fixture in the light heavyweight division during the UFC 101 post-fight press conference. Soares however, is adamant that “The Spider” is still just a part-time employee in the 205-pound class. From Soares: “That is totally false; I never said that to Dana. The only time I recall Dana saying what was said in the Yahoo! story — ‘I like that. We can make that happen, I like that’ — was when Anderson’s assistant came up to Dana and said something to him. But I don’t even know what he said to Dana. Like we’ve said before, Anderson wants to be in the biggest fights possible, whether it’s at 205 or 185 [pounds],” Soares said. “He owns the belt at 185 and he is going to keep defending that belt.” Silva made quick work of former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 back on August 8. The TUF 1 champ was stunned early and often, eventually wilting under the might of the middleweight champ. In fact it was such a one-sided beatdown, speculation ran rampant following the fight about where Silva might go from here. White mentioned a possible superfight with current light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida — an idea not well received by “The Spider.” As of now, Silva will likely defend his belt in a rematch against Dan Henderson later this year or early 2010. “Hollywood” squashed Michael Bisping at UFC 100 to get another crack at the unstoppable Brazilian. From there it’s anyone’s guess, but we do know that Anderson Silva has no immediate plans to permanently fight at 205-pounds. Somewhere in Cincinnati, Rich Franklin is wiping his brow.

Interesting. So the title fight could be Henderson vs. Maia/Nate winner? Silva's said on numerous occasions that he won't fight Machida, so he doesn't have anywhere to go unless Machida loses the title sometime soon. But there's more fights for him up at 205, than 185. I'd pay to see Silva KO people like Rampage at 205 thats for sure.

Haha, I know why he's doing this...
If he drops the title, he won't have that title clause at the end of his contract, so that means he'll be able to fight Roy Jones. Pretty smart idea.

I like the idea. It would create more exciting match ups. Plus, Hendo would actually have a solid shot at winning the belt.

thank god, maybe rich franklin will get his title shot now. I think dana has been jipping franklin because he doesnt wanna waste one of silva's last fights on franklin again. I mean, who the wants to see franklin/silva 3? We all know whose gunna win. Now with silva moving permanantly to LHW, they can put him to the real test by fighting someone strong like Rampage. Or Silva/Ortiz? And then if Franklin beats vitor....Franklin/Hendo 2 for the Title?

Smart move because it opens up his desire to fight Roy Jones Jr, and also gives the majority of the MW division an actual chance of being the champ.
I'd love to see Anderson Silva/Rampage Jackson or Anderson Silva/Rashad Evans.

ughhh...
I can't believe my favorite fighter only has 3 fights left.
I think this is a good move . I don't know if I believe it though because it didn't sound like Silva really wanted to stay at 205..he knows he gives up a lot of size at 205. But Forrest was probably the biggest LHW in the UFC and Silva destroyed him.
I would love to see Anderson Silva vs. Rampage, Shogun, and (MAKE IT HAPPEN DANA) MACHIDA!
I know Anderson said he would never fight Machida but it is a fight that has to happen. Each fight that I see from both guys makes me wonder more and more who would win.

Rampage would get picked apart like Griffin did. Rampage is good, and he has KO power, but he has no real technique.

Rampage has shown extreme weakness against guys with supreme muay thai skills...Anderson is probably the most skilled Muay Thai fighter that the UFC has..he would KO Rampage with knees. I would love to see the fight though, Rampage is just so much better than he was in Pride. But I still think he would lose. I honestly think Anderson will retire from the UFC undefeated. I said that I thought Marquardt might be able to get the job done but after Saturday I take that back.

For the record, I doubt that the UFC is going to book Anderson to fight the LHW champion, even if Machida loses it to someone... I can't remember the last time a guy was near the final fight of his contract and got a title shot.
