What is this "MSG Incident" I keep hearing about that prevented HHH's push and was given to Austin?

On Nash and Hall's final night in the WWE, Shawn, Hunter, Nash, and Hall all embraced in the ring. It happened to be in Madison Square Garden inside of a steel cage. At the time, Shawn was the top babyface, Hunter was a heel, Nash left as a heel and Hall as a face...and breaking kayfabe in 1996 was just unheard of and Vince didn't want it.
Vince decided he had to punish someone for the incident. Nash and Hall had left, so they couldn't be punished. Shawn was the top face, so he couldn't be. Hunter, who was supposed to win the 1996 King of the Ring, had his push derailed and they gave it to Austin instead. Hunter, to his credit, stuck it out, accepted the punishment, and Vince one day, basically said, the punishment was over, and gave Hunter his push. I'd say it worked out for the best, no?
He beat me to it! I've been Jimmy'd!

It was a house show between hhh and hbk vs hall and nash. It was kevin nash's and scott hall's last wwf match before leaving before wcw. I forget who was the heel in the match i think it was hall and nash. So after the match the 4 guys broke kayfabe and hugged and shook hands in the middle of the ring.
I think thats what happened.

What is this "MSG Incident" I keep hearing about that prevented HHH's push and was given to Austin? Despite my fandom of HBK, I was pretty irritated by this at the time. I have no problem with wrestlers breaking kayfabe away from wrestling but during the performance, illusion is everything. Later on I did like the footage that HBK & Hunter played on RAW to further the storyline that they were beyond Vinny Mac's control.

At the end of the cage match, HBK got back in the ring, then out came Hall and HHH and the four shared a hug, threw up the Kliq sign, and posed for the crowd. At the time, HBK and Hall were faces and Nash and HHH heels.
