My brother and I rented Wrestlemania 12 from netflix this past week. We'd seen the event before when it was live, and we've both since watched the HBK/Bret Hart match, but neither of us had seen the other matches on the card in years. We went back and watched the entire thing, and both of us were very surprised how brutal the Piper/Goldust fight was. Both men were intensely stiff and very hard on each other.
Does anyone have any backstage stuff on this encounter? Don't really want to call it a match, because it was far from that. It was either so well written and acted that you cannot tell a difference, or Piper hated this guy. I think it's a very underrated piece of Wrestlemania history. I disliked some of the homosexual references and all of that, but Piper's reactions to this stuff is absolutely brilliant and nothing less than classic Piper.

They were planning on going Goldust vs. Razor but Hall got suspended and Piper stepped in. There was no heat between them they just decided to make everything look good by beating the hell out of each other.
My only problem with the 'match' was the OJ Simpson and the Dodge pop culture references that are no longer relevant and really date it.

Yeah, I remember that 'match' too...
I must admit, the references were a tad lost on me (not sure if they expected non-Americans to understand it) but it reminded me of a movie scene with commentating over it, not an actual 'match'.

Doesn't Piper break his hand in the brawl? I'm sure he potatoes Goldy and suffers a broken hand for it.

There is one shot by Piper to Goldust's left eye/side of the face that looked stiff has hell the last time I watched it. I just may have to go watch it again!
