This time: Nogueira
MMAJunkie:
The UFC's injury woes continue, and another main event has been scrapped.
A planned UFC 108 bout between heavyweight contenders Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez has been called off due to a severe staph infection currently affecting "Big Nog."
UFC president Dana White revealed the news at Saturday's UFC 105 post-event press conference.
"[Nogueira] got staph infection, bad, to the point now it's in his blood stream, and he's probably going to have to be hospitalized and intravenuosly given the antibiotics," White said.
UFC 108, previously titled "Nogueira vs. Velasquez," is scheduled for Jan. 2 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
White said the recent string of bad luck for the company, which has included injuries to several of the UFC's most prominent fighters, is the worst his seen in his time at the helm of the promotion.
"It's crazy," White said. "In nine years of being in this business, we haven't had this many injuries in one (full) year."
Despite the setback, White said his company would deliver a solid event come January.
"This is my business; this is what we do," White said. "My job is to put on fights, and we'll get some fights for Jan. 2."
White said he was uncertain if Velasquez would remain on the card. With Brock Lesnar on the shelf indefinitely, Shane Carwin would seem to be a natural option. Unfortunately, White said Carwin just underwent knee surgery and would be unavailable for the event.

I say it should be Cain vs Dos Santos at 108 and Mir vs Kongo at 107 (already happening).
The winner of those two fights face each other in an Interim Title match (due to Lesnar and Carwin being out). As for giving Gonzaga a fight, there isn't really anybody for him to fight seeing as Cro Cop is taking on Rothwell at 110. Stefan Struve maybe?
Either way, it should be Dos Santos/Cain and Kongo/Mir in an Interim Title tournament.

This is getting ing ridiculous. Just get a Machida/Shogun rematch going ASAP Machida has a broken hand so that will be put on hold for a while. Carwin posted on twitter that he did not have knee surgery, he just hurt the MCL and is rehabbing it. He might be able to go at 108.

Nah, I doubt he'll be ready for 108 if surgery was considered but he's going with rehab. Just remember, UFC 108 is in 6 weeks this coming Saturday. He won't have time to rehab the injury and get in a decent training camp.

This is why as odd as it seems I think they should have weightclass PPV's. That way top fighters fight every 3-4 months (like they do anyway) and don't have to rush it. It would work the best overall. Because you can see the up and comers in that division and see how they compair to the champ that night. Plus it would sort out number 1 contenders easily. And make more high profile names/ superstars.
I know Kos' health has been going up and down since he said he wanted to fight 6 times this year. I think a restriction should be made. Because a fighter will fight as often as they can because they want to make as much money as possible.

It would be potentially disastrous to have 'weight class' pay per views.
