I posted this in the UFC 108 takes another hit thread. But I thought it would be good for it's own topic. It pertains to all the recent health related injuries.
This is why as odd as it seems I think they should have weightclass PPV's. That way top fighters fight every 3-4 months (like they do anyway) and don't have to rush it. It would work the best overall. Because you can see the up and comers in that division and see how they compair to the champ that night. Plus it would sort out number 1 contenders easily. And make more high profile names/ superstars.
I know Kos' health has been going up and down since he said he wanted to fight 6 times this year. I think a restriction should be made. Because a fighter will fight as often as they can because they want to make as much money as possible.
So what do you think. You could alsohave supercards once a year.

I get your point, but I don't feel it'd work too well. Would anyone REALLY want to see an all HW ppv? You need at least a few different weight classes on there to at least try to attempt to have a diverse flow of action being displayed for the crowd.
Plus what happens if a top level WW fighter gets injured going into a WW only ppv? If he's ready to go just a month later, it'd be too bad for him. He'd have to wait 3-4 months, or until they decide to do another WW ppv.
They'd need to mingle at least a few weight classes on each show to keep things from getting too wonky. Overall though, I think they really can't avoid these problems. You never know what bone is gonna chip, or what muscle is gonna get tweaked during a fight or practice.

They do have restrictions.
And athletic commission can take one look at a guy and say no.
I don't like the weight class pay per view idea at all. Diversity is a huge part of the show. If I wanted to see a bunch of guys who look the same I'd watch WWE.

I actually kind of like the idea. It could give more fighters exposure.
NYE supercards?

If I wanted to see a bunch of guys who look the same I'd watch WWE. You know how many guys lie at their physicals to pass? A lot of UFC fighters don't even make enough to pay all their bills. And I have no idea where the WWE thing came from? Just think you could have Rampage Evans Griffin Silva Couture Machida all fight on one night. Have Nog Mir Cain Lesnar (hopefully) Carwin one night Penn Florian Guida Huerta (if he resigns) Stevenson Kos GSP Fitch Swick Hardy Alves Hughes Silva Hendo (again if he resigns) Marquadt Franklin Leeben Bisping And for fight nights have WEC divisions fight. That would make Torres, Faber, Bowles, and Brown superstars. I think it would make each division deeper (HW). And fighters that many wouldn't see will get on tv. Plus you would not have the excuse of you didn't have enough time to train. Because it would be set you WILL be fighting every 4 months. Which is the average time between a fighters fights anyway.

I think it's a noble idea, but my problem with all-weight class PPVs is that it's too restrictive to allow for intangible things like the length of a fighter's recovery time, or even contract re-negotiations.
In the former case, say 22 guys (11 fights per card) in the same weight class fight on a show. The next PPV for their weight class is, say, 4 or 5 months later. If a fighter gets hurt and needs 3 or 4 months to heal before resuming training, they're likely going to miss their next PPV. Under the current system, they could just take a fight on the earliest show that allows them a good-length training camp. Which might only amount to 6 months between fights, as opposed to almost a year if they just barely miss the deadline for their next show. (And as you pointed out, some fighters can ill afford to wait an extra five months between paychecks.)
On the latter point, I think it would put the UFC in an unfair negotiating position for guys that need to renew their contracts if the fighter knew their next possible show was in x amount of weeks or months, and if they deliberate too long on the details of their contract, they'll be stuck without a payoff for an extra five months. I could see the UFC using strictly-scheduled weight class PPVs as a way of pressuring a guy to sign a less-than-fair contract if he thinks his only alternative is an extra-long wait for his next payout (or a worse-paying gig with a different promotion).
