Report: Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago II in the Works for UFC 109
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Dec 1, 2009 at 5:35 pm ET
A welterweight rematch between Josh Koscheck (14-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and Paulo Thiago (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is reportedly in the works for UFC 109.
The possibility of the contest was first reported by AOL FanHouse and has since been confirmed by several outlets.
While not yet officially announced by the organization, UFC 109 is expected to take place Feb. 6 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The bout serves as a rematch of the pair's February meeting, which Thiago won with a shocking first-round TKO.
Koscheck looks to build on the momentum of back-to-back wins over Anthony Johnson and Frank Trigg. The former cast member of the debut season of "The Ultimate Fighter" proclaimed himself the welterweight division's No. 1 contender after defeating "Rumble" on November and has informed the UFC he wants to fight as frequently as possible until earning a sot at the UFC 170-pound title.
With current champ Georges St-Pierre and top contender Dan Hardy rumored to meet in March, a win over Thiago could help Koscheck advance toward that goal.
Meanwhile, Thiago's difficult road through the UFC's welterweight division continues with the matchup. The Brazilian upset Koscheck in his UFC debut before losing a unanimous decision to Jon Fitch at UFC 100 this past July.
Thiago was scheduled to face Brazilian slugger Thiago Alves at this month's UFC 107 event, but a scheduling shuffle left the submission ace to face Jacob Volkmann at November's UFC 106 event. Thiago earned a unanimous-decision over Jacob Volkmann and ran his record to 2-1 in the UFC.
Wouldn't it be funny if Koscheck got TKO'ed again?
