Ultimately it's to each their own. In my opinion, the example with two Punks does not in any way favor the basic figure as the basic figure's torso is way too wide for Punk. Punk has a flabby midsection with love handles and the torso joint position on the elite figure helps achieve the look of his physique more realistically, even if it was a coincidence. Personally, I love the torso joints on the Jakks deluxe figures (WWE DA & UFC) and will probably love the Mattel WWE Elite figures as well. For those of us that like to pose our figures, the torso joint makes a tremendous difference. At the end of the day, if you want a figure to just stand there and be displayed, go with Basic and save a few bucks. If you like to pose figures then the Elite line is the way to go. In my opinion, both lines feature the same amount of detail on their figures but Elite trumps Basic just on posability alone.

To be honest it's the same arguement as RA vs DA, it's up to the individual.
I mean I collect DA, and yet I know guys who don't even like them.
So in all fairness, everyone's opinion is there own and shouldn't be attacked or frowned upon.

Damn, in regards to the CM Punk comparison, that Basic looks WAY better than the Elite in terms of realness. I was under the impression that the Elite would be the more "real" series of the two, with the extra joints and the bonus attires that are included, but I guess not.... I think it would have made much more sense for the Basic figure types to be the "Elites", since the Elite series looks to be more aimed at buyers who collect the figures for display, rather than playability, which you would get with the Elite figure type.
I do like that Mattel is doing completely different head scans for all three figure types though, while Jakks on the other hand, just used an enlarged RA head for their DA figures. It gives way more of a variety this way.
I still don't see the point of the Flex-Em's, aren't they a less detailed version of an Elite?
I hope they release some figures that AREN'T in scale with the three primary types, something similar to VA's, Micros, MA's, and BNB's. I would love a line of Mini Big Heads, I'd praise Mattel for all eternity if they granted us that.

When it comes to Jakks, DA are in fact better. Better scans, better looking etc...
When it comes to Mattel elite is just a copy of basic but with a broken torso.

When it comes to Mattel elite is just a copy of basic but with a broken torso. Not only do they have the ab crunch articulation, but they also have ball-jointed hips and cut thighs. The basics don't have those.
