Which company built Chris Jericho the most to lead to the character we have today? Was it the WWE or WCW?

WWE. And The Rock helped make him legit in 2001.

I was gonna post that WWE did definitely. WCW laid down the base work, then WWE made him who he is today. His comedy and feud with The Rock were what really made him a major player.

His tenure in WCW showed how much potential he had. His WWF feud with Chris Benoit showed how talented he was. His feud with the Rock showed that he should be in the main event.
Thus, I choose WWE.

WWE. While he was Great in WCW, WWE turned him into the reincarnation of Jesus himself.

WWE. While he was Great in WCW, WWE turned him into the reincarnation of Jesus himself. -- lol Can't beat that. --- If you're talking about which superstar "made" him, as in gave him a career, it certainly wasn't Goldberg. In WCW, Juvi for sure. In WWF, The Rock.

Don't you remember Sunday School? No one made Jericho, he's just always been around.

WCW easy. Without WCW nobody would even know who the hell Jericho was. He would either still be in a bingo hall in Philly or in the Civic Coliseum here in Knoxville.

This is a great question!! Excellent post.
Chris Jericho's groundwork was laid in WCW thanks to some clever input by Eric Bischoff, Jericho himself, and I believe Kevin Nash was involved in helping to shape his character there, took the similar gimmick to the WWE, however (to quote Mick Foley) tweaked it a bit making him a little edgier. WWE began seeing his work ethic and Jericho was working with top guys like The Rock and Triple H as well as great rivalries with Angle and Benoit (who can forget this feud). Jericho was seen as a legitimate top guy even without holding a title, albeit minus the April 2000 episode where he pinned The Game due to Hebner's fast count. When he beat The Rock for the WCW title and Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWE Championship, he was a main guy. 2002-2003, Jericho became a household name. He left in 2005 due to nagging injuries and burn out. He came back in 2007, but because of certain reasons (different fans, comments on the Internet, Lance Storm haha) we knew he was coming. He finally broke the Y2J image though I enjoyed and evolved into the amazing heel he is today, where he is a multiple time champion and one of the most dominant heels, well actually one of the msot dominant people on the roster. So in fairness to look at this, everyone did their part in a way, ECW showcased his talent, WCW showed he had amazing talent and mic skills and could get a crowd into him, WWE showed he could hang with the top guys and he showed that he can evolve himself so he does not become stale.

Jericho wasn't allowed to shine in WCW, even though he had just as much talent and potential there as he did/does in WWE. With what he was given to work with in WCW (Cruiserweight title/division, Ralphus, etc) he made the most of it. He was one of the best on the roster, and his segments were some of the most entertaining on the show. Since WCW didn't let him be all he could be as far as a "star" goes, I think Jericho made himself into the best he could with what he was given. Then when he moved to WWE, people knew he had talent and the ability to be very entertaining. WWE gave him that shot, and he made the most of it.
Jericho kept Jericho entertaining and WWE gave him the shot to be a star that WCW didn't give him.
Out of the two, I give WWE more credit, but you cannot discount Jericho's own personal influence in the matter.

I personally think Jericho's 'breakthrough' WWF match was the Last Man Standing match with Triple H at Fully Loaded 2000. It laid the early groundwork for main event Chris Jericho.

Lance Storm helped, Paul E did too, Ricky Steamboat and Shawn Michaels' influence helped, and in a strange way (at least IMO) WCW's ineptitude and therefore WWE's capitalization on him most certainly paved the way, with feuds against The Rock, Triple H and Chris Benoit...
I think his time off helped as well, most definitely.

In a way the Rock deserves alot of credit. Had Jericho interupted anyone else it wouldnt have went as well. Those two worked off each others charisma amazingly.
