I remember this fed from when I was a kid and I totally loved it. I loved that it was brand new and I loved the tournaments that they held to crown their initial champions. I'm pretty sure you guys remember this fed that aired on ESPN, I just want to know what your opinions were on the fed.

I liked it, but it was lacking something. I wish it would have lasted longer. But I couldn't stand Brandon Baxter, Steven DeTruth or Sebastian.
Plus the whole "Boss" angle was awful.
I did enjoy getting to see Eddie Gilbert & Adrian Street wrestle, though.

'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert = fantastic.
As for GWF, haven't seen much of it at all, but sounds intriguing...

I used to watch it all the time on ESPN. I remember their biggest babyface being The Patriot, and then they brought in Doug Gilbert (I think) as The Dark Patriot. They also had Marcus Bagwell and Harlem Heat before WCW got them, and I believe they also had Ahmed Johnson before he was famous.
The silliest thing I remember from the ESPN show was a bungee match, capitalizing on the early 1990s bungee jumping fad. I can't even remember who was in the match, but even as a kid, it was too corny for my tastes.

I don't remember the bungee match, but I remember Bagwell as "The Handsome Stranger" and how all the fat ladies in the audience would cream themselves when he'd give them a rose. I loved the Patriot/Dark Patriot angle. Also Cactus Jack wrestled there, as did Raven before he was Raven and was known as Scott Anthony. Then there was X-Pac as "The Lightning Kid". It was a pretty interesting fed. I wish they would release a DVD collection.

On the same card, Mike Davis did a reverse bungee and said he was going into outer space. He came back with a "moon rock". I miss his gimmick, but I liked when he was the original Viper. Remember that? His corny catch phrase: "Don't hiss me off!" He had a brief feud with Sam Houston & lost his mask when Houston gave him a bulldog.

Also can't forget about the Cartel, that stable was was mash-up of odd pairings but I really enjoyed hating them. They were led by Rip Roger's (who most would remember one of top job guys in WCW) Cactus Jack, Scott Anthony (Raven), and Makhan Singh (Bastion Booger).
Another guy that I enjoyed was Barry "The Winner" Horowitz. Sure he is one of the best job guys that worked in both WWE & WCW, but in the GWF he was a top heel and held the GWF Light Heavyweight Championship twice. I also was into hating John Tatum, and one of my favorites aside from The Patriot was Steve Simpson.
They used to make really good use of that carpeted platform at ringside, I remember being in awe when Lightning Kid flying out of the ring and onto that platform.
I miss those days, but most importantly I miss seeing the battle between good and evil being played out on my television by guys that understand the business and put on their best efforts to tell an entertaining story to the fans in attendance.
Even though it was a small-time promotion GWF had something special. The tapings were in the legendary Sportatorium, but called the "Global Dome". It had pretty poor production quality, but the announcing was great, the crowds hot and the action above average. I attribute the hot crowds to the wrestlers that knew how to get them involved in the matches by interacting with the crowd, which is apparently a lost art these days.
A lot of the GWF talent went on to WWE & WCW and I guess that's a good thing, but it sucked to see the GWF go.

I use to watch GWF everyday. I remember The Patriot thinking he won the North American Title unfairly so he wanted a rematch with Al Perez to crown a legit winner, Rasta the Voodoo Mon scaring the crap outta me....ahh the good times

Anyone know whatever happened to "Brute Forcz" the neo-metal tag team? I don't remember them, were they a part of the later version of GWF? And while were talking about Tag Teams, do you remember the combination of John Tatum and Rod Price? I loved them as a team. I also was a fan of Tribal Nation and that team that were Sheepherder ripoffs, I forget their name. Oh yeah. One of the promo's that i'll never forget was when Gen. Skandor Akbar referred to the Ebony Experience as "Booger Teeth" and "Stinky Ray". Classic Akbar.

They had really frizzy hair and were proud that they composed their own theme music (which was awful). I couldn't stand the Manny "Hard Luck" Villalobos character. And I think the only female "diva" at the time was Bull Pain's valet, Samantha. Yeesh!

And grumpy, I was a fan of Bull Pain. I did not even know that he was one half of the Texas Hangmen until a few years ago. I was pretty excited when I saw him in WCW, but he was not the Bull pain I remembered. But I enjoyed his time in GWF.

I always thought it was Henry Godwin & Phineas (Mideon). Wow. Bull Pain was untapped potential. I could have easily seen him feuding with The Patriot for the GWF title.

Everytime there was a chairshot or fireball thrown, we'd never see the impact as they would cut to a crowd shot, I always hated that.

Yeah that was pretty annoying, but it was really the only downside of the promotion. I wish ESPN would run GWF instead of nightly editions of death bed era AWA. (not sure if they still run the AWA on ESPN Classics)
