So I was watching disc 3 of the Ric Flair Definitive Collection, and I could not help but wonder why this match was included in the set.
This was IMO one of their worst matches together and as boring as can be. The crowd was flat and barley got into it. Steamboat was booed and appeared to be sedated. The announcing by Shiavonne and Heenan was pretty bad and the action lethargic. The match really told no story, and to be honest should have never happened.
Another thing that should have never happened was this match being placed on the DVD. I think a much more credible and memorable option would have been Flair vs Vader at 93's Starrcade.
I may be in the minority in my hatred of Flair/Steamboat at Spring Stampede, but I want to hear everyone's thoughts on this match.

Well, nearly all of that sort of footage is considered "vault" type footage, or damn near impossible to get ahold of, without WWE releasing it on DVD. Flair vs Vader was on the Essential Starrcade DVD, but as far as my knowledge goes the Flair vs Steamboat match isn't listed on any other DVD besides the Definitive Collection.
I think this was just WWE trying to get as many different classic bouts out there as possible and even today Steamboat vs. Flair still draws. lol
As for the match itself, I wouldn't call it horrible, not as stellar as it could have been seeing the two who were involved. I might go dig out that DVD and rewatch it now actually. hehe

Well, that was Steamboat's last match for a long time I think.

Well, that was Steamboat's last match for a long time I think. Actually it was not. Steamboat continued his feud with Flair and then moved on to feud with Austin over the US Title until he injured his back in the summer of 94. If you watch Steamboat closely during the match with Flair at Spring Stampede it seems as if he was under the influence of pain meds, or a depressant. Maybe his back was already injured at the time and he continued until he could no longer compete later on in the summer.

I just watched disc 3 from the Essential Starrcade, and I was really disappointed that the entrance for Flair vs Vader was not included, as well as the post match interview with Flair and his family. It would have added to the big match feel. This is why I wanted the match to have been featured on the Flair dvd.

It definitely wasn't as good as their previous battles but not neccessarily horrible. But I could understand you wanting the Flair/Vader match from Starrcade up there.
